Wheel of the Year Quack-Quack

Wheel of the Year “Quack-Quack”

What is a Quack-Quack?

A “quack-quack” is a folded paper artwork (like origami) which you can use for many things. Typically, it is played to find yes/no answers or “he loves me, he loves me not” as a game.

Quack-quacks may have a better name, but when my kids were growing up, we called them quack-quacks because as you move them looks like little birds’ beaks opening and closing, thus the duck sound of quack-quack.

You can call them what you like and do let me know if you have a better name. In the meantime, I’ll continue to call them quack-quacks.

What You Do

Download

Download the Quack-Quack template below.

wheel-of-the-year-quack-quack

Print

Print out the full color page. You can make as many as you wish. You can also make it larger if you have bigger paper.

Cut Out

Carefully cut the full square diagram out. Try to keep the edges super sharp and square.

Folding Tips

As you make each fold be careful to keep the folds sharp. You can use a bone folder to help with this part.

When folding point into the middle, try to line it up exactly to keep the shape.

Fold

With the image facing down, fold the paper in half vertically then open.

Fold in half horizontally then open.

Still facing down, fold each corner into the centerfold crosshairs. This makes a smaller square.

Flip it over, colored side up.

Now fold each corner into the middle.

Gently open the four corners and place you thumbs and forefingers from both hands up into the little pockets.

Make it quack by opening and closing your fingers.

Yule (Winter Solstice)

°Around December 21st, Yule marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. It celebrates the rebirth of the sun and the return of longer days. Traditions include lighting candles and fires, decorating with evergreens, and feasting.

Imbolc (Candlemas)

Around February 1st or 2nd, Imbolc signifies the midpoint between winter and spring. It is a time of purification and light, often associated with the goddess Brigid. People celebrate with candles, fire rituals, and early spring cleaning.

Litha (Summer Solstice)

Around June 21st, Litha is the longest day of the year. It celebrates the power and strength of the sun at its zenith. Celebrations often involve bonfires, feasting, and connecting with nature.

Lammas (Lughnasadh)

Forecasting Techniques

Forecasting Techniques

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: July 2024

Forecasting Techniques

Once you can read a chart you’ll want to get into forecasting.

Astrology has various techniques to forecast or predict future events and trends.

These techniques can be broadly classified into direct and indirect methods.

You don’t have to use them all.

Here’s a brief overview of the four main forecasting techniques which I use for every chart I interpret.

Podcast Episode

You can listen to the full podcast episode with me and Arwyne by clicking below.

Direct Forecasting Techniques

Transits

Transits involve observing the ongoing movement of planets and how they interact with an individual’s natal chart.

As planets transit through the zodiac, they form aspects (such as conjunctions, squares, or trines) with the planets and points in the natal chart.

These interactions can indicate significant events, changes, or themes in a person’s life during the period of the transit.

Solar Returns

A solar return chart is cast for the exact moment the Sun returns to its natal position, which happens once a year around your birthday.

This chart provides insights into the year ahead, highlighting the major themes, challenges and opportunities.

Analyzing the solar return chart in relation to the natal chart can give a comprehensive view of the upcoming year’s potential.

how-much-time-to-spend-on-each-technique

Indirect Forecasting Techniques

Secondary Progressions

Secondary progressions are based on the “day-for-a-year” principle, where each day after birth represents a year in the individual’s life.

By advancing the natal chart forward one day for each year of life, astrologers can observe how the progressed planets and points interact with the natal chart.

This method reveals the internal, psychological, and developmental changes that occur over time, complementing the external events indicated by transits.

Solar Arc Directions

Solar arc directions involve moving every planet and point in the natal chart forward by the same amount, calculated based on the solar arc (the distance the Sun moves in a day, approximately one degree).

This method creates a chart that reflects the evolved positions of the planets and their aspects to the natal chart.

Solar arc directions provide a broad, long-term view of life’s significant shifts and transitions.

Other Forecasting Techniques

The following methods are ones which I never use, not because they don’t work, but becasue I prefer the first four methods I mentioned.

Firdaria

Firdaria is a time-lord technique used primarily in traditional astrology.

It divides a person’s life into distinct periods governed by different planets.

Each planet, known as a “time lord,” presides over a specific phase, influencing the themes and events of that period.

The sequence and duration of these periods vary according to the planet’s position and significance in the natal chart.

Profections

Profections is an ancient technique that advances the natal chart one house per year.

Starting from the Ascendant, each house represents a year of life, cycling through the entire zodiac every 12 years.

The sign and planets ruling the house of the current year become particularly significant, as they highlight the key themes and areas of focus for that year.

Primary Directions

Primary directions involve the symbolic (indirect) movement of planets and points through the sky, representing significant life events and developments.

This technique shifts the natal chart forward by a specific amount, usually one degree for each year of life, to see how the planets’ new positions relate to the original chart.

Additional Forecasting Techniques

Here are a few more techniques again that I do not use.

Lunar Returns

Similar to solar returns but focusing on the Moon’s return to its natal position, offering insights into emotional and domestic themes for the month ahead.

A lunar return is cast every month this makes it the most short lived method.

Planetary Arcs

Planetary arc directions, are where each planet and point is moved forward by an individual planet’s arc to identify long-term trends and transformations.

You choose the planet for the chart by its rulership of the topic in question.

For example for the lovelife use a Venus arc chart and for career use a Saturn arc chart

This one can be tricky and you may have to do it by hand (without a computer) as not many astrology software programs can calculate other planetary returns although good old Solar Fire does.

Transits to Progressed Chart

Analyzing how current planetary transits interact with the progressed chart is another way to forecast.

I’m not sure if this is a viable method becasue you are taking a transit which will be a progression one day, and applying it to an indirect movement of a planet.

Direct Forecasting Techniques

Transits and Solar Returns

The two main direct forecasting techniques I use are transits and solar returns.

Transits: What to Look For

Transits are a key tool in astrology, providing insights into how current planetary movements impact your client’s natal chart.

Here’s a quick look at what to consider when interpreting transits:

Planets in Transits

Pluto

Governs transformation, power and regeneration.

Pluto transits indicate deep, often intense changes and the need to confront and release what no longer serves.

Neptune

Associated with dreams, intuition, and illusion.

Neptune transits can bring inspiration, spiritual growth, but also confusion and deception.

Uranus

Symbolizes change, innovation, and upheaval.

Uranus transits bring unexpected events, breakthroughs, breakdownsa and breakouts and shifts in perspective.

Saturn

Represents discipline, structure and challenges.

Saturn transits often signify periods of hard work, responsibility and testing.

Jupiter

Brings growth, expansion and opportunities.

Jupiter transits indicate times of prosperity, growth, learning and new experiences.

Mars

Drives action, energy and ambition.

Mars transits can spark motivation, what you will fight for, conflict and assertiveness.

Venus

Represents love, beauty and harmony.

Venus transits influence relationships, aesthetics, money and your social interactions.

Mercury

Governs communication, intellect, trade and travel.

Mercury transits affect thinking, opinions, paperwork, information exchange and daily routines.

Aspects

The aspects formed by transiting planets to natal planets and points reveal the nature of the influence.

Conjunctions

Occur when a transiting planet is in the same position as a natal planet.

They bring intensified energy and focus on the qualities of the planet involved.

Pay close attention to conjunctions, as they signify major periods of activation and focus on the planets involved.

Hard Aspects (Square, Opposition)

Create tension and challenges that often require action and resolution.

Squares (90 degrees) and oppositions (180 degrees) indicate conflict, dilemmas, obstacles, or necessary adjustments.

Examine squares and oppositions to find areas of conflict, challenge and potential for growth through overcoming difficulties.

Many clients arrive in the astrologer’s consulting room when under a hard transit from an out planet.

Soft Aspects

Offer ease and opportunities. Trines (120 degrees) and sextiles (60 degrees) facilitate growth, harmony and beneficial developments.

Look for trines and sextiles to find periods of harmony, ease, and natural development, where things tend to flow more smoothly.

Personally I don’t bother with the soft aspect transits as they oftne just pass by. Whearas the hard aspects demand attention.

  • More on TRANSITS

Forecasting Technique: Graphic Ephemeris

I love working with a graphic ephemeris. It is a bit tricky to read to start with but well worth the effort to learn.

The Graphic Ephemeris is a powerful visual tool used by astrologers to track planetary movements and their interactions over time.

It give a graphical (visual) representation of the positions of planets and their transits relative to an your natal chart.

Understanding the Graphic Ephemeris

Graphical Representation

Unlike a traditional ephemeris, which lists planetary positions in a tabular format, the Graphic Ephemeris displays these positions on a graph.

Time is typically represented along the horizontal axis, while the zodiac degrees or signs are shown on the vertical axis.

Tracking Planetary Movements

The graph plots the daily positions of the planets, allowing you to see at a glance how planets move through the zodiac over days, months, or even years.

Being on a one page, it helps you to visualize the dynamic nature of planetary cycles.

Identifying Main Outer Transits

By overlaying the positions of transiting planets with key points in the natal chart (such as Pluto, Neptune and Uranus), the Graphic Ephemeris makes it easy to identify when transiting planets form significant aspects to natal planets.

Using the Graphic Ephemeris

Setting Up the Chart

To use the Graphic Ephemeris, one must first set up the chart for the individual or event in question.

This involves plotting the natal chart or any other relevant chart.

Overlaying Transits

Once the natal chart is set, transiting planets are plotted over time.

This can be done for specific periods, such as a month, a year, or several years, depending on the scope of the forecast.

Interpreting Patterns and Hot Spots

You then analyze the graph to interpret the patterns.

Look for when transiting planets cross important points in the natal chart and form aspects to natal planets.

These times are then interpreted for their potential impact based on the nature of the planets and aspects involved.

Eclipses

Eclipses are powerful astronomical events that hold significant astrological meaning.

In astrology, eclipses—both solar and lunar—are seen as harbingers of change, transformation, and pivotal shifts.

They occur in cycles, typically about every six months, and their influence can be felt for months before and after the event.

Here’s a detailed discussion on how eclipses serve as a forecasting tool in astrology:

Types of Eclipses

Solar Eclipses

Occur during a New Moon when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun’s light.

Symbolize new beginnings, fresh starts, and the initiation of significant changes.

Can highlight areas of life where new opportunities or challenges will emerge.

Lunar Eclipses

Occur during a Full Moon when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon.

Represent culmination, closure, and the revelation of hidden truths.

Often signal the end of a chapter or the need to release something that no longer serves us.

Astrological Significance of Eclipses

Trigger Points

Eclipses often act as trigger points for significant events and changes, especially when they closely aspect personal planets or critical points (Ascendant, Midheaven) in the natal chart.

They can catalyze shifts in areas such as relationships, career, health, and personal development.

Intensity and Unpredictability

The energy of eclipses is intense and can bring sudden, unexpected changes. This makes them powerful times for transformation but also periods of instability and unpredictability.

Long-Term Influence

The effects of an eclipse can unfold over six months to a year, making them useful for long-term forecasting.

The themes and events triggered by an eclipse can continue to develop and manifest well beyond the date of the actual event.

How to Use Eclipses in Forecasting

Identifying the House Placement

Determine which house in the natal chart the eclipse falls. This indicates the area of life where changes and significant events are likely to occur.

For example, an eclipse in the 10th house might signify major shifts in career or public life, while one in the 4th house could impact home and family matters.

Examining Aspects to Natal Planets

Analyze the aspects the eclipse makes to natal planets. Conjunctions, squares, and oppositions are particularly potent and suggest major turning points.

Trines and sextiles, while still significant, tend to facilitate smoother transitions and positive developments.

Consider the Nodal Axis

Eclipses occur near the lunar nodes (North Node and South Node), which represent points of destiny and karmic lessons.

Eclipses near the North Node suggest new opportunities and growth, while those near the South Node indicate the need for release and letting go of past patterns.

Reviewing Eclipse Cycles

Eclipses follow an 18.6-year cycle, returning to the same zodiac sign and degree roughly every 19 years.

Reviewing past events from the previous cycle can provide insights into the themes that might re-emerge.

Jupiter Square Saturn

Jupiter Square Saturn

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: July 2024

Jupiter Square Saturn

In August 2024, an intriguing astrological event will occur as our two significant social planets, Jupiter and Saturn, form a square aspect with each other.

This alignment, known as the Jupiter-Saturn square, typically involves a three-hit transit.

These three exact contacts usually unfold over a period of six to seven months, making it a prolonged and influential phase.

The Jupiter-Saturn square is a relatively rare event, occurring only once every six to seven years.

This alignment brings about a dynamic interplay between the expansive, optimistic energies of Jupiter and the disciplined, restrictive forces of Saturn.

The tension between these two planets often signals a time of challenge and growth, requiring us to balance our aspirations with reality.

We are fortunate to witness this significant astrological phenomenon towards the end of 2024, continuing into 2025.

This period will provide an opportunity to navigate the complexities of ambition and limitation, encouraging us to find harmony between our goals and the practical steps needed to achieve them.

3-Hit Transit

As these are transiting planets, the Jupiter-Saturn square will involve three exact contacts over the next several months.

This three-hit transit adds depth and complexity to the astrological event, influencing our lives in phases.

First Contact

On August 17, 2024, Jupiter in Gemini will be at 17°, and Saturn in Pisces will be at 17° retrograde.

As Jupiter moves closer, they will form the first exact square.

This initial contact will set the stage, highlighting the areas of tension and potential growth in our lives.

Second Contact

On December 24, 2024, Jupiter, now retrograde in Gemini, will be at 14°.

It will form the second square with Saturn, also at 14° Pisces.

This middle phase of the transit often brings a revisiting of themes and challenges from the first contact, offering a chance to reassess and adjust our approach.

Third Contact

On January 15, 2025, Jupiter will make the final pass of its square with Saturn.

This third contact will bring closure to the transit, culminating the lessons and experiences of the previous months.

This final phase is a time for integration, where we can apply the insights gained and move forward with a clearer understanding of the balance between expansion and limitation in our lives.

The three-hit transit of the Jupiter-Saturn square provides a structured period of growth and reflection, encouraging us to navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise with mindfulness and care.

Assessing Relative Strength: Direction and Essential Dignity

To understand the dynamics of a planetary aspect, it’s important to assess the relative strength of the involved planets.

One effective method is by examining their sign placement and Essential Dignity scores.

By doing so, we can gain insights into which planet holds more influence and how their energies will interact.

Direction and Essential Dignity

Determining which planet is stronger starts with evaluating their positions in the zodiac signs and their Essential Dignity.

Essential Dignity is a system in astrology that assigns strength to planets based on their placement in specific signs.

Let’s unpack the Jupiter-Saturn square aspect to better understand their relative strengths:

First Contact

Jupiter is in detriment in Gemini, with an Essential Dignity score of -5.

This makes Jupiter less effective in expressing its natural expansive and optimistic qualities.

However, Jupiter is direct, which gives it some added strength and forward momentum.

Saturn is retrograde in Pisces, which weakens its influence and ability to impose structure and discipline.

Additionally, Saturn in Pisces is in a position where it lacks essential dignity.

Despite Jupiter being in detriment, it is slightly stronger in this phase because it is direct and disposes Saturn in Pisces, where Saturn’s retrograde motion further diminishes its power.

Second Contact

Jupiter remains in Gemini but is now retrograde.

While retrograde motion typically indicates a period of reflection and internalization, the sign placement still plays a crucial role in determining strength.

Saturn continues to be in Pisces, still retrograde and without essential dignity, making it a guest in Jupiter’s sign.

Even with Jupiter retrograde, it is likely to be more influential because Saturn remains in Pisces (a sign associated with Jupiter).

The sign position of Jupiter generally prevails over the retrograde status, maintaining its relative strength over Saturn.

Third Contact

By the third contact, Jupiter has moved into Cancer, where it is exalted, receiving an Essential Dignity score of +4.

This exaltation greatly enhances Jupiter’s power, allowing it to express its qualities of growth, optimism, and expansion effectively.

Saturn, on the other hand, moves into Aries, where it is in fall, with an Essential Dignity score of -4.

This significantly weakens Saturn’s ability to function optimally, as its disciplined and structured nature is challenged by the impulsive and fiery energy of Aries.

In this final phase, Jupiter in Cancer, exalted and direct, will be much more effective and influential than Saturn in Aries, which is in fall and weakened.

By analyzing the essential dignities, direct or retrograde status, and dispositional relationships of Jupiter and Saturn during these three contacts, we gain a nuanced understanding of their relative strengths.

This helps us predict how the energies of the Jupiter-Saturn square will manifest over time, highlighting periods of growth, challenge, and resolution.

Forest Bathing

Botanical Gardens

This week I went to a botanical garden near my home.

It is full summer here and the plants, shrubs and trees were in full bloom.

The weather was so warm and almost hot.

I walked the winding paths and sat on a few benches strategically placed for contemplation.

I’d first come across the idea of forest bathing last year.

ubc-botanical-garden-map

Forest Bathing

To forest bathe means to immerse yourself in a woodland or forest where big trees grow and can touch each other high above in the canopy.

Here the noise of traffic is nonexistent or at least deadened.

It’s a way to decouple from the digital world and soak up some nature.

The City

I live in a big city and call myself a city slicker.

Even when I visit my friend and astrologer who lives further up the coast I comically say, “City mouse is visiting country mouse.”

Yes, there are parks in downtown, but not ones where the canopy joins together as it does in the botanical gardens.

Looking up towards the canopy where the trees join together.

12th House

Astrologically I believe that withdrawing and rejuvenating is a 12th house activity.

This is where you pray, take a bubble bath and now, yes, forest bathe.

See, cleansing and bathing go on in the 12th.

At the moment the Sun is transiting my final house so it just seems the right thing to do.

I enjoyed the few hours I spent in the garden.

I’ve took a couple of photos to show you what I mean.

There was even a “Moon gate” which ran under a main road.

I feel good that I managed to honour my 12th house in this simple way.

Grid Art

This week I created a simple grid art journal page in line and wash that is focused on leaves.

Creative art practice like this does not have to be complicated.

I hope to explore some more downtime activities in the next few weeks and make the most of the spotlight on my quiet 12th house.

Wellbeing

The state of wellbeing is one that I will explore more in my work.

It is the seventh highest part of the astrology I practice.

Below is a simple chart to show how I think about wellbeing coupled with self-care and astrology.

And for those of you paying attention, yes, it aligns with the chakras and the visible planets.

Mars in Gemini

Today I’m going to be talking about Mars in Gemini. If you’re listening to this in summer of 2024, Mars is about to enter Gemini on July 20 and will stay there until September 4. Mars moves pretty quickly so it takes about two years to go all the way around the zodiac. Due to retrograde periods, it can spend as little as six weeks in a sign to as many as seven months! Last time Mars was in Gemini was from August 20, 2022 through March 25, 2023, but this is an unusually long time for Mars to stay in one sign. It retrograded in October 2022 but it stayed in Gemini the entire time, so that’s how it can sometimes be in one sign for a very long time.

Podcast Episode

Listen to the full podcast episode below.

Mars in Gemini by transit

When Mars transits through the airy, mutable, masculine (or positive) sign of Gemini, it is considerably less focused than in some other signs. As we might expect with any placement in Gemini, there’s an intellectual, chatty, indecisive and scattered energy. In the northern hemisphere, this might be perfect timing because we are going through the middle of summer and who wants to make fixed decisions and doggedly pursue ambitions when warm weather, beach vacations and weekend barbecues beckon?

That being said, Gemini is not a bad placement for Mars and although we may at times feel restless and indecisive, with our attentions pulled in many different directions, we’re just as likely to also feel alive with sparkling, effervescent and positive energy. We might feel like chatting up new and old friends, dancing late into the night, hosting a game night with or sing along, enjoy summer fun like fireworks, festivals and street fairs. Even solitary activities like getting engrossed in an exciting book, binging a new TV show or podcast, could be excellent uses of Mars in Gemini energy.

As Robert Hand says in his seminal book, Planets in Transit, Mars is a planet of energy and it specifically rules the energy that an individual uses to maintain themselves in the face of pressures from their environment. Mars is also connected with work and physical effort and its transits often signify days when you become very energetic and vigorous. So, as Mars transits through different signs you want to look at where you have significant placements in those signs in your chart. If you have the sun in Gemini or Gemini rising or, of course, if you have Mars in Gemini, this transit will energize your chart in a significant way.

You also want to look at what house Mars will be transiting for you while it goes through Gemini. If you have Gemini rising, Mars will be transiting your first house and it will light up your personality your self-expression your identity, your self-esteem, and it could give you a great boost of self-confidence or indicate a time when you are presenting yourself to the world and this could be a great time for you because you’ll find it easier to express yourself in your naturally effervescent Gemini fashion with Mars lighting up your first house. It could be a great time to meet new people or make a great impression on people who already know you, champion a cause that’s close to your heart or undertake a self makeover to present yourself or your ideas in an exciting new way.

You also want to look at any aspects that Mars will be making to planets in your chart. If you have any major placements in Sagittarius, Mars will be transiting opposite those planets while it’s in Gemini, so this could bring conflicts with people, opposition to your ideas, impediments and obstacles that suddenly come up, hindering your movements and thwarting your ambitions or aims.

Any major placements you have in mutable signs will be affected by Mars transiting through Gemini as it will make hard aspects to all the mutable planets, including Virgo and Pisces which will receive squares from Mars in Gemini.

Mars in Gemini in the birth chart

As with any air sign, Mars in Gemini tends to have more mental energy and social activity associated with its martial tendencies. These people might be more the type to spar with you verbally then physically. They could be intellectually inexhaustible, pursuing higher education or gobbling up trivia like information junkies, memorizing movie quotes or song lyrics or sports statistics in order to repeat them at the ready anytime conversation turns to their topic of choice, or supplementing any pub trivia team with their sparkling, broad-based intellect.

These people love to exchange ideas and they’re motivated by communication, social and intellectual stimuli. They may be the type to go off on a political rant or some obscure tangent at the drop of a hat, or drone on about whatever personal topic fires their interest long past the point of exhausting others in the room. Used correctly, they could be excellent, engaging teachers or professors, journalists, radio hosts or podcasters, influencers, marketers or sales people.

Since Mars is one of the relationship planets, along with venus, we would look to Mars to find out what a person is like in relationships. Mars is the planet of desire and going after your object of affection, so people with Mars in Gemini will be the type who want to charm you with their wit, intellect, conversational moves and lofty ideas. Of course keeping their interest will be the real challenge. Mars in Gemini is not known for its ability to focus on one thing or one person for very long.

In Person to Person Astrology, Steven Arroyo says, “the essence of Mars in Gemini is that it asserts itself verbally, flexibly, cleverly, communicatively, through a variety of skills. The focus of one’s desire changes very quickly and often, easily diverted. Expresses a wide ranging friendliness, very good at making connections. Physical energy and sexual drive are affected by mentally stimulating conversations, images or curious new ideas, very open-minded.”

They may appear or behave especially youthful and embody a sort of ageless vitality and charm, flirting or putting on the charm for people of all ages and genders indiscriminately. This may be the guy who you dated just long enough to bring home to meet your parents one time and years later they still ask, “whatever happened to..?” He made an indelible impression and then flitted on to the next flower before you had a chance to make a real connection.

This is not to say they can’t commit. The wonderful thing about Mars in Gemini is that these people are genuinely interested in the thoughts and ideas of other people; they’re open-minded, curious and communicate well with their partners. If you make a lasting love connection with them, they could turn out to be a wonderfully stimulating and exciting partner for life, keeping you laughing well into old age, exploring new ideas and interests together long after other couples have settled into mutal silence.

Grant Lewi says, if you have Mars in Gemini, “you are rarely bored or boring, but you can wear yourself and others out by the ferocity of your attack on life. You are extraordinarily aware of the world around you, sense perceptions are acute, swift, probably accurate, and you are valuable in expressing what you take in. Energy flows naturally to the tongue; you are a better talker than listener. With any concentrated force, this position gains value, Without it, you scatter your energies.” He also cautions the Mars in Gemini individual to take care of their body as well as their mind. There is a danger of neglecting your physical well-being because you are so focused on mental pursuits.

Mars in Taurus

Mars in Taurus

Mars in Taurus

Mars in Taurus in the natal chart

Today we’re taking a deep dive into Mars in Taurus. Mars takes about two years to go around the Sun so it spends approximately two months in each sign, give or take the retrograde periods, so it can be a bit variable. Mars covers about half a degree per day so even if you don’t know what time you were born you will definitely have a very good idea of the exact degree of your Mars, which is nice.

I feel pretty qualified to talk about Mars in Taurus because that is where my Mars is, exactly opposite my ascendant in Scorpio give or take a few degrees. Mars is the planet of drive, ambition, physical activity, aggression, sexual conquest and the masculine drive to go after the object of your love or lust. By masculine of course we just mean active versus passive in the traditional archetypal sense. Everyone has Venus and Mars somewhere!

Mars in Taurus in Love

In his excellent book Person to Person Astrology: Energy Factors in Love, Sex and Compatibility, Steven Arroyo says, “when Mars is found in Taurus, the aggressive urges are held under control but should never be underestimated, for they are powerfully stubborn and persistent.” This placement of Mars is rarely aggressive but people with Mars in Taurus are among the most willful, purposeful, obstinate beings in the world in terms of unrelenting pursuit of their goals and desires.

I always describe Mars in Taurus as the Ferdinand the Bull placement, from the well-known children’s story about the famous bull in Spain who was recruited to be in the bullfights but all he wanted to do was smell the roses, so he wasn’t much of a fighter.

Of course we all probably know some Taureans in our lives and they may not seem like very aggressive or angry people, but all it takes is the right instigation for their tempers to flare. It’s definitely more of a slow burn rather than fiery, since Taurus is an earth sign ruled by Venus and traditionally associated with comfort, wealth, good food, quality fabrics and the finer things in life.

Steven Arroyo goes on to say that the core qualities of Mars in Taurus are that “they assert themselves steadily, retentively, conservatively and stubbornly. Their initiative and drive are directed towards consolidation, productivity, comfort and enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. They often have a creative and/or artistic flair and their physical energy and sexual drive are influenced by a deep appreciation of the physical senses, which may lead them to complacency and laziness.”

He says both men and women with Mars and Taurus have strong, consistent sex drives and powerful sensual urges, and a strongly developed sense of touch. Although they lack the spark of Mars in a fire sign, they tend to be more cautious, not wanting to risk exposing themselves to ridicule. This is not generally a “make the first move” type of person (and I can personally attest to that LOL). But they are very sensual and very generous even if they don’t always like to communicate verbally about their own needs or the desires of their partners.

Grant Lewi, another OG astrologer from even before Stephen Arroyo’s time, said of Mars in Taurus that they are generally somewhat passive aggressive. They may not fight but they will wait you out and stubbornly refuse to give in until you consider their point of view. He says their motto is, “I don’t want to fight, let’s just do it my way.”

Mars in Taurus breaking a sweat

I can definitely see that in my personal life; not laziness, but a conservation of energy. I don’t like to be bored and I don’t like to sit around and do nothing, but my idea of nothing may be different from other people’s. That could involve mental pursuits or doing something crafty or creative with my hands. I like to sew and for a while I made jewelry. Maybe you like to fix or make things, or cook or work in the garden. These can be really satisfying pursuits for someone with Mars in Taurus.

Similarly, in my forms of exercise that I enjoy, I really prefer activities things that I can do more or less mindlessly. I’m not physically competitive and I hate counting reps or having to think too much about getting exercise for the sake of it. I much prefer activities that are fun, and if they can’t be fun, I want to be able to keep my mind off it completely by listening to audiobooks or podcasts. The last thing I want to do is go to a gym with a bunch of other people and wait my turn for the next machine or really have to think about my workout and focus on counting or doing a circuit of machines or how much weight I’m using for different exercises. I love roller skating outdoors, biking, disc golf and other things that I can either do with friends or more or less mindlessly, without having to think about the fact that I’m exercising!

Which is not to say everyone with Mars in Taurus is like that, of course, but there is something about a non-competitive, steady form of exercise that I think would be very appealing to anyone with a lot of Taurus energy. A lot of my friends who I do physical activities with have either Taurus sun or some personal planets in Taurus. There’s something about the Mars in any sign that attracts similar energies.

Mars in Taurus at work

Similarly, in terms of ambition at work, I’ve never been much of a “climb the corporate ladder” type . When I’m doing all my creative thinking and work behind the scenes, I prefer it to be kind of a solitary, steady pursuit, as opposed to being in a room brainstorming with other people or trying to come up with the next big idea. I’d rather be left alone to do what I do well and find ways to be excellent at those things, rather than strategizing some big picture or collaborating with a lot of people. Your mileage may vary! This is probably a combination of my Mars in Taurus and all my personal planets in Virgo. If you’re a Capricorn or Gemini with Mars in Taurus, it’s going to look very different.

Mars vs. Venus

With any Mars placement, in order to get the full picture you’re going to want to compare where you have your Venus. In my case I have Venus in Libra which of course is a masculine air sign compared with the feminine Earth sign of Taurus so they’re not compatible by element but they are both ruled by Venus. This makes Venus much stronger than Mars in my chart because it’s in the sign it rules, whereas Mars in Taurus is in its detriment (since Aries is one of its ruling planets).

Mars in Taurus celebrities

Some famous people with Mars in Taurus include Bruce Willis, Charlize Theron, Christian Bale, Helena Bonham Carter, Henry Cavill, Robert De Niro, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Tom Cruise, JFK, Jennifer Lawrence, Muhammed Ali

Solar Cycles

Tracking the Transiting Sun

One of the fundamental skills in forecasting is learning to track the transiting Sun through the solar cycle.

This involves following the Sun’s daily position as it moves through the zodiac over the course of a year.

Understanding this movement provides insights into seasonal changes and astrological influences.

The Sun’s Path

The Sun travels along a specific path known as the plane of the ecliptic.

Only locations on Earth between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn can experience the Sun directly overhead.

solar-cycles-earth

Seasons and Cardinal Signs

Each year, we experience four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

These seasons begin when the Sun enters one of the four cardinal signs of the zodiac: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

Solar Cycles and the Cardinal Ingresses

(Northern Hemisphere)

Aries (March 21st)

The Sun’s entry into Aries typically marks the beginning of spring.

This occurs around March 21st, but it can vary by a day or two, this is the vernal equinox.

Cancer (June 21st)

The Sun’s ingress into Cancer signifies the start of summer.

This happens around June 21st and this is the summer solstice.

Libra (September 21st)

The Sun entering Libra signals the onset of autumn.

This occurs around September 21st at the autumnal equinox.

Capricorn (December 21st)

The Sun’s movement into Capricorn marks the beginning of winter.

This happens around December 21st at the winter solstice.

Date Shifts

These dates are approximate and can shift by a day or two each year.

The slight variations are due to the Earth’s orbital dynamics and the need for occasional realignment through leap years.

solar-cycles-the-suns-path

Cardinal Ingresses of Other Planets

While the Sun’s ingress into cardinal signs is notable, other planets can also enter or ingress these four signs.

When this happens, the event is referred to by specifying the planet and the cardinal sign.

Example

Mercury’s Cardinal Ingress of Libra

This would occur when Mercury moves into the sign of Libra.

Jupiter’s Cardinal Ingress of Aries

This occurs when Jupiter enters the sign of Aries.

These planetary movements are significant as they mark important shifts in energy and influence related to the characteristics of the cardinal signs they enter.

Understanding the Sun’s Movement through the Solar Cycles

The Sun moves approximately one degree through the zodiac each day, completing a full circle of 360° in about 365 days.

This movement means that the Sun will be at nearly the same degree in the zodiac on the same date each year, albeit with slight variations.

Annual Conjunction with the Ascendant

Given this regularity, the Sun will conjoin your Ascendant around the same date each year.

This pattern extends to the other houses in your chart, meaning the Sun will enter your 2nd, 3rd and subsequent houses on approximately the same dates annually.

Alison-presenting-at-sunshine-coast-astrology-group

I recently gave this as a presentation at the Sunshine Coast Astrology Group.

Aligning with Solar Energy

Knowing when the Sun transits through each house in your chart allows you to align your activities and energy with the solar influence on different areas of your life.

Each house represents a specific domain, such as personal identity (1st house), finances (2nd house), communication (3rd house), and so on.

By being aware of these dates, you can better harness the Sun’s energy to support your goals and activities in each area.

Personalized Dates

These transiting dates are unique for everyone, depending on the position of the Ascendant and the configuration of the houses in your natal chart.

Example:

Sun Entering the 1st House

For example, if your Ascendant is at 4° Leo, as mine is, the Sun will cross your Ascendant and enter your 1st house around July 27th each year.

Transition from 12th to 1st House

When the Sun moves from the 12th house into the 1st house, it signifies a shift from a more introspective and subdued phase into a period of personal empowerment and visibility.

The 1st house is associated with self-expression, new beginnings and a heightened sense of identity.

Extend Yourself

House Cusps

Why not do some solar transit work on your own chart? Using your birth chart, an ephemeris and the solar transit tracker [download your copy here] or your astrology journal please do the following.

  • List the houses from 1 to 12.
  • Find the degree and sign of each of your houses.
  • Starting at the Ascendant (the first house cusp) and using your ephemeris, find the date that the transiting Sun will enter each of your 12 houses.

Extend Yourself Further

And if you really want to get ahead with transits, start with the aspects. Using your birth chart, an ephemeris and my solar transit tracker [download your copy here] or your astrology journal please do the following.

Conjunction Aspect

Conjunctions are the most effective aspects to use with transit work. If you only do one aspect then choose the conjunction.

  • Find the date when the Sun will conjoin each of your planets.

Hard Aspects

As the hard manifesting aspects are more dynamic next do the oppositions and squares.

  • Find the date when the Sun will oppose each of your planets.
  • Find the date when the Sun will square each of your planets.

Soft Aspects

Finally, and only if you have time, find the dates when the Sun will trine or sextile your natal planets.

  • Find the date when the Sun will trine each of your planets.
  • Find the date when the Sun will sextile each of your planets.

Starzology Astrology Podcast 100th Episode Celebration

Starzology Astrology Podcast 100th Episode Celebration

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: July 2013   –   Revised: January 2024

Our Journey to 100 episodes

When you start your astrological journey, you never know where it will end up.

Sometimes you don’t even realize there is a journey at all.

It just seems like another day.

But it is a day with astrology in your life.

There was the day before astrology came into your life and then there is the day when astrology got you.

The day when you thirsted to learn more.

To understand the glyphs.

To discover other signs.

To explore areas of life that astrology represented for you.

And it just gets better.

The more you learn about astrology the more you realize you know nothing.

I mean, there are so many advanced topics to explore once you have got the hang of a basic chart interpretation.

Your Path

Your path is different to mine.

You will meander down new trails.

You may stay on the highways, but long to dally down a side road or lay by.

Your way will be the right one for you.

Learning

The order in which your astrology knowledge grows is different to everyone else’s.

There is no one size fits all.

Looking back, can you see the turning points in your astrology journey?

Can you say when you finally “got” astrology?

If you even have?

How we got here

I took my first astrology lesson in 1980.

It was just the beginning of a two-year diploma course.

Since then, I’ve attended countless other astrological conferences, events, gatherings, classes, courses and workshops.

I’ve had years to hone my craft.

And by the way, I believe this is a sixth house activity – to gain the skills you need to do the work you do.

I still seek out opportunities for professional development and I urge you to do so as well.

Take that class.

Go to that workshop.

Join that group.

Read that book.

Lean in.

Grow.

Evolution of Our Podcast

The most recent thing I’ve done astrologically, apart from getting this newsletter onto a regular cadence, is the Starzology podcast.

It wasn’t planned. It just evolved.

Let me tell you how.

Vancouver

When I first arrived in Vancouver in 2012, I did not know many people.

I began a Meetup group in my local coffee shop.

The topic was, of course, astrology and I think it the first meeting was a New Moon session.

3 People came.

Not a great turnout.

Anyway, as the meeting broke up we said our goodbyes and I began walking home.

One woman was going my way, so we chatted a bit and walked together.

When I got to the front my high rise apartment building I halted and said, “This is me” and she said, “Me too!”

What was this serendipity?

I’ve just moved into the same building as another astrologer in a city of six hundred and fifty thousand people!

What are the odd?

Clearly 1:650 000 or thereabouts.

That is how I met Arwynne.

She lives two floors above me. She is my upstairs neighbour if you will.

We met again the next month and further developed our connection.

The point is that you never know who you will meet and who will influence your astrology.

Even with a poor attendance, of just 3 people in that first meeting, I was able to make a fantastic connection with a likeminded astrologer whom I’ve now known for over 12 years.

arwynne-and-alison-100th-episode

Our First Podcast

A few months in, Arwynne said, “We should do a podcast.”

To which I replied, “What’s a podcast?”

Arwynne explained that in a podcast we record our astrology conversation and then put it out there.

Out where I wasn’t sure.

Her partner had a microphone and so we set a time to meet at her place for our first recording.

Axis Astrology

Back then we decided to call it Axis Astrology referring to the Ascendant and MC axes in every chart. Over the next two years we recorded episodes every week.

We had many interesting astrology guests like Nina Gryphon and Andrew Morton from the UK who flew in and recorded with us.

The Mountain Astrologer picked our show up and recommended our podcast to their readership. You can still listen to those early episodes here.

Over time Axis Astrology ran its course and we stopped recording. This was a before Spotify and Apple podcasts. Things were different then.

But we remained friends and would have social dinners with our partners together now and then.

I also invited Arwynne to speak at the Vancouver astrology group when I was running the show.

Seasonal Art Group

In 2022 I started a seasonal art group. You can see more about this here.

I knew Arwynne was an artist as she had designed astrology tarot cards and drew Badass Goddess artworks at a local studio in town.

I invited her and a couple of other art ladies and we got together for an art evening session. If you are interested, I do watercolour and acrylics.

We did the art group a few times.

In my spare time, I started to listen to podcasts on Apple podcast once I’d downloaded the app and after Norma began hers.

Then I started to listen to people like Andrew Huberman and lots of others. I became a podcast listener.

In April 2023 I had the idea to launch my own podcast.

The very next day I had my Buzzsprout account opened, threw some money at it and voila my first episode was recorded and live.

That week I messaged Arwynne, who I had not seen for a couple of months, and simply said, “How about it?”

She agreed and we got the second episode in the bag by the following week.

I started out publishing episodes fortnightly as I honestly did not know what I was doing.

Within weeks is was obvious that we had enough content to go weekly.

Gulp!

Could I keep it up?

Was the commitment too much?

Would anyone listen?

Wednesday

We pushed on doing weekly shows for around four months and then added the Wednesday midweek minisodes, little episodes, as well.

We wanted to keep the Sundays for solid astrology and meaningful conversations.

We added the midweek ones with a lighter tone and more variety.

The vision was that we could chat about things other than mainstream topics.

There was a place on the Wednesday edition for a little more individual personality and both Arwynne and I have lots of that.

We’ve since gone on to interview people independently, but we always come back to the main editions.

In a way, it has given us a flexibility to allow our creative output to flourish.

There has been talk of slotting in an odd Friday quickie as well, but we’ll have to see about that.

Katia-arwynne-and-alison

Who Knew?

The point is that 24 months ago I did not know I would be an astrology podcaster.

It has been a way for myself, and Arwynne, to express our love of astrology and share it with you.

For myself, I believe the Uranus ingress into my 11th house was the spark. And as Jupiter entered as well it could grow and the broadcast improved.

To grow (Jupiter) my tribe (11th house) through astrology (Uranus).

What About You?

What will you be doing astrologically in 2 years time? That’s one Mars return and a great time period to get something started, launched and nurtured.

What will you do

Don’t answer now.

I have some specific questions for you in the “Extend Yourself” section below.

Thanks to You

Our podcast would not be where it is today without you.

I want to thank you for supporting our podcast and the astrology conversations we love to provide you.

As this week we publish our 100th episode, our centennial episode if you will, we are grateful.

Grateful that you came.

Grateful to you for listening and sharing in our astrology journey.

The Next 100 Episodes

I’d like to share with you what it takes to wrestle each episode to the mat.

Podcast Episodes

The Plan

We painstakingly plan the content.

We look for a variety and balance of astro topics and levels of complexity.

We need more basic than advanced stuff as that is our audience.

Sunday Content

Our Sunday episode is usually the main one for the week.

It includes upcoming transits and or other solid astrology information about planets, signs, houses and aspects.

Wednesday Content

Our Wednesday episodes tend to be slightly more beginner topics presented by Arwynne and her guests.

I pop in mid-week when we’re doing an high level chart reading for one of our listeners.

These episodes are examples of where to start with readings.

Additionally, I may present some solo topics and astrology ideas that I want to float and explore.

The midweek show can be a mix.

Studio Recording

We schedule the recording sessions for every other Monday evening.

I spend at least one hour setting up the podcast studio.

This generally means tiding up, sorting some lighting and sound organization.

I rearrange the furniture because the podcast studio, although it sounds fancy, is actually set up at my dining table.

There are microphones, candles, an iPad with the charts for the night on Astro Gold, a laptop computer and pens and notepad at the ready.

I also a prepare Audacity, which is our audio recording platform, for the two particular episodes which we will discuss that night.

Often I draw the chart in question on my freestanding whiteboard so we can discuss it on the go.

I’ll also list things that we must mention that evening. It’s like a checklist.

Arwynne arrives at my place around 6pm.

She has her computer and copious reference notes (did I say she is a research astrologer?) and usually a book or two.

We do a sound check and then get straight into the two recordings.

starzology-podcast-studio

Voice

When recording, its important to save your voice and not talk much earlier in the day so you don’t sound raspy at the end of the day.

I do this by trying not to talk much beforehand. This is not always easy to achieve, but now I avoid teaching classes, coaching, having general Zoom chats and Astro consulting on “podcast day”.

We have a few snacks and a light drink.

Each session usually takes three hours to record two 30-minute episodes.

There are stops and starts and we may chop and change things up on the fly.

After the recording is finished we will take some time to brainstorm upcoming topics.

Now we’ll also discuss anything else business wise about how we’re doing, what we’re doing, where we’re going and check our recent statistics.

Scheduling

We schedule in special time sensitive episodes like an eclipse piece for example.

Our recording schedule is entered into our joint calendar so we can both see it and add and move things around.

We schedule for about three months ahead.

Now and then some topics will jump the queue.

These queue-jumpers typically come from listeners like you sending in hot questions.

The evening concludes.

3 hours.

Edit

I start the editing of the audio files the next day.

It usually takes about one hour to edit each episode. This is high focus work.

Upload

The finished episode is uploaded to our podcast host Buzzsprout. Fingers crossed here.

Optimize

Now I add the title, authors, episode number, hashtags, description, referred links and link to the topic blog post.

I will pull that particular episodes audio link and add it to the blog post.

Sometimes the blog post goes live before the podcast episode is available on Apple or Spotify.

But once the link is on the blogpost anyone like you, ——- can listen as soon as it’s ready.

This is before the Sunday or Wednesday official launch of the podcast.

To be clear, some episodes are available early if you go to Starzology and visit the blog post.

The latest posts are in the sidebar.

Older posts that have been around for a while, like Mercury retrograde for example, but which do not yet have a podcast episode associated with them, will get the link straight to them.

Not every episode can be heard early.

Uploading to Buzzsprout and the associated tinkering and fiddling while Rome burns takes me about 30 minutes.

Artwork

Next, I create the four episode artworks:

The podcast episode icon that’s the square (1:1) with diagonal that details the episode.

The Pinterest pin for the blog post. This is the one that goes on Pinterest (2:3).

The Instagram post image for the episode (1:1) which is often different to the episode icon. And note at this stage I’m only posting to my Starzology Instagram grid on a Sunday. I plan to post the Wednesday episode to Instagram soon. It is just so much work and I haven’t got round to it yet.

The blog post image. This is typically something arty in blue and yellow our brand colors (3:2) and with more detail related to the specific topic. This artwork doubles as the image in this newsletter.

Social Content

Next I write the copy (words) that will go on the social posts.

So that is:

  • One paragraph for Instagram with hashtags.
  • One paragraph for Pinterest including hashtags.

These two then get uploaded and scheduled to go live on the same day as the podcast episode is officially released.

This all takes about half and hour.

So in all, getting each podcast episode out takes about 3.5 hours.

What am I telling you this?

Because it’s a labor of love.

We love what we do.

And from your response you do too.

Your Astro Journey

You don’t know where your astrology will take you.

And hey, maybe you can’t see the path just yet. That’s ok.

Giving it some thought could help.

Extend Yourself

If you bring your attention to bear on your astrology it can help focus your time and energy.

  • What are your astrology dreams?
  • Is your journey just starting out?
  • Can you cast a chart?
  • Can you read a natal chart?
  • Can you forecast with transits? Secondary progressions?
  • Which area of astrology do you need to focus on right now?
  • What will you achieve?

Extend Yourself Further

Anyone can benefit from some forecasting. And as good astrologers, let’s lean into the planet’s cycles for some help.

  • What is your next month (Moon) goal for astrology?
  • What is your next quarter (seasonal/cardinal) goal for astrology?
  • What is your next six-month (solstice) goal for astrology?
  • What is your 12-month (Sun) goal for astrology?
  • What is your 2-year (Mars) goal for astrology?

Too many questions?

Example Chart: Super Jupey

Example Chart: Super Jupey

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: June 2024

Example Chart : Super Jupey

This is an example chart reading for our listener Super Jupey. I think the name comes from the prominence of Jupiter in this chart.

The Natal Chart

Balances

Strong Polarity

In astrology the broadest stroke is polarity. The passive polarity is strong with five planets in it.

Interpretation

This suggests that she will absorb things around her. These cna be both positive abd negative impressions and she will lean heavily on her understanding or what is really going on.

There can be a part where she accepts what other dish out but in time she will reject what does not serve her.

This woman will seem easy going and even a pushover at first, but in time you will discover her other side. When you do encounter her core you will have entered into the inner circle of her life.

Strong Element

Water is the strongest element with four planets that is two more than the next best element.

Interpretation

This strength will come thorough in her intuition and emotional side.

Everything will have to feel right for her to be comfortable with people or situations.

It is essential that she pays attention to atmospheres and used her natural intuition to keep herself safe. She can “read a room” better than most.

There will have to be an emotional connection to people in her life. this is not a wishy washy theme, but rather. a core part of who she is.

Strong Mode

Fixed is the strong mode with two more than the next best mode.

Interpretation

This indicste she can be quite ridgid in her approach. There will have to be a really good reasosn for her to change the way she does things nd how she thinks. But one she’s seen the light she will be fully on board with the new plan.

super-jupey-natal-chart

Dispositor Tree

Mars is Final Dispositor

This chart is a “Mars Final Dispositor Tree.”

Mars is at the top and all the planets are connected together on one tree.

This makes Mars supremely important nds it is also the chart ruler.

example-chart-dispositor-tree

Dispositor Tree: Gateway Planet

Jupiter

Jupiter is a gateway planet (red dotted circle) because it is a middle planet and has planets above and three below.

This gives Jupiter a lot of say about the energy of the planets below it which are the Sun, Venus and Neptune.

Their energies are likly to be melded into a main theme through Jupiter.

Chart Rulers

The two chart rulers, Mars and Pluto, (circled in yellow) show their position in the tree.

It is clear that the powerful energy of Mars will dominate in the chart over the other chart ruler of Scorpio which is Pluto.

Dispositor Tree: Links as Aspects

Sun trine Jupiter

The only link that is also an aspect in this dispositor tree is between the Sun and Jupiter.

In the natal chart the Sun trines Jupiter.

They are linked in the tree with Jupiter on a higher line. This brings focus to this particular aspect (the trine) and the two planets Jupiter and the Sun.

No doubt the energies of these two planets have much to say about this person’s chart.

Interpesting that she called herself “Super Jupey” as clearly Jupiter is strong both in the natal chart and in the dispositor tree.

Solar Return Chart

The solar return chart is focussed on the Sun. Therefore the Sun’s placement and aspects are of great interest.

Solar Return Sun’s House

In the solar return chart the Sun is in the 2nd house.

Solar Return Sun’s Aspects

Stellium

There is a stellium with Mercury, the Sun and Saturn.

The Sun is conjoined Mercury and the Sun is conjoined Saturn.

Soft Aspects

The solar return Sun is sextile Jupiter.

super-jupey-solar-return-chart

Secondary Progressed Chart

The secondary progressed chart is laid outside the natal chart.

Secondary Progressed Sun

The Secondary progressed Sun will enter the 7th house in November 2024. This is huge.

It not only leaves the 7th house to enter the 7th, but is also opposes the Ascendant and conjoins the Descendant.

Interpretation

This suggests that close personal realtionships, or even marriage, will be on the cards in the 12 months that follow the actual ingress in November.

Additionally, business partnerships will be spotlighted at this time.

Any progressed Sun movement is usually a positive thing. It allows you to live authentically in the nature of your natal Sun but now with a different focus.

super-jupey-natal-secondary-progressed-bi-wheel

Solar Arc Directions

The solar arc directions bi-wheel (with the natal chart on the inner wheel) is shown below.

Highlights

The solar arc directed Sun (the same as the progressed Sun) is entering the 7th house in November 2024.

Solar Arc Planets

The solar arc Jupiter is leaving its home of Sagittarius and entering Capricorn in October 2024.

Birth Data Required for a Birth Chart

Birth Data Required for a Birth Chart

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: June 2024

Let’s Talk About Birth Data

In astrology the actual chart is the core of an interpretation.

For every reading you absolutely require a chart.

When you cast a birth chart for someone you do need a few bits of information.

And specifically, you require three important facts to cast any chart.

3 Components

The three core pieces of information you need are:

  • The birth date.
  • The birthplace.
  • The birth time.

Of course you could always use other input as well such as, why they came to you in the first place and what the focus of the consultation should be, but those details are not essential to cast the actual chart.

Quick Sidebars

I’ve highlighted two asides here for you to ponder which might throw some light on this topic.

I don’t want to go into detail on either point in this newsletter.

Please let me know if you’d be interested in a deeper look later.

Sidebar 1: Birth Data Ratings

Birth data is categorized on the Rodden Rating system as follows.

AA = Accurate accurate: From birth certificate or record – written down and in hand.

A = Accurate: From memory, family legend or hearsay – spoken or word of mouth.

B = Biographical: From autobiography or biography – second hand.

C = Caution: From conflicting sources.

DD = Dirty Data: Don’t use.

X = No time: Date only with no birthtime.

XX  = Very insecure.

I prefer to only cast charts with an “AA” or “A” rating.

Of course you can cast charts with weaker data, but each chart you prepare takes up your time and your energy.

It is a lot of work and you still may not be correct.

Sidebar 2: Birth Time as Given

In astrological circles, there is a school of thought which believes that you can reliably cast charts using “birth time as given”.

Birth time as given is criteria used in manual chart calculations mainly, but can be with a computer.

It really means that any information which the client provides you, the astrologer, will work for them.

The individual will resonate with the resulting chart, even if it is not exact.

The fact that they gave you some particular birth data is embedded in their psyche and becomes a part of who they are.

It can be related to a Freudian slip.

I’ll not debate this idea now.

Let’s have a closer look at the 3 essential facts required for a birth chart calculation.

1. Birth Date

The birth date is usually available.

Just about everyone knows their birth date.

But just about does not mean all…

Date of Birth

In my many years as an astrologer, I’ve only come across three people who were not sure of their birth date.

This was back in Africa where things were not written down.

Un-noted birth dates were especially the case for mothers who had home deliveries in remote villages.

Year of Birth

But it’s not just their birth dates that people don’t know.

Amazingly there was one woman who did not know her year of birth.

It seems her mother could not recall.

However, she did know the day and month.

But in the main you will get their full birth data including day, month and year. Brilliant!

Historical People

Another situation occurs when you work with historical charts.

It is often impossible to get a good birth date for very old charts.

Anyone from history or people born 500 plus years ago, when records were few and far between, frequently do not have a time and sometimes do not have a date either.

But for most people alive today, and I’m assuming these are the charts you are working on, will provide you with the birth date.

birth-chart-rectification

2. Birth Place

Typically, the birth place is readily available.

People do tend to know where they were born.

As another aside to this, let me tell you that the birth certificate is not always correct either.

I’ve had a client whose official birth certificate, in hand, was written with a city in England, but he was actually born in Kenya.

His parents only registered his birth at six weeks old when they returned to their home country.

Tricky, tricky.

In Flight

Even people born on airplanes know whereabouts they were on the flight at the time.

This doesn’t happen much anymore as the airlines are stricter about pregnant women boarding in the first place, but you do still get this situation for people past their second Saturn return.

Interestingly, these folk seem to be able to claim citizenship from both the departure and the arrival country.

City Center

I have experienced a situation where someone born in a big city, like say Mexico City or Tokyo, could gently tweak the birthplace.

Born in a huge city, and with a firm birth time, their calculated Ascendant was within a whisker of a sign cusp.

This meant their Ascendant sign could be one of two choices.

The person, although their birth time and date were good, felt the returned Ascendant was off.

In this instance, I zoomed into the specific birth hospital location.

By digging into their information and using a map, I found the actual nursing home building where they were born.

I extracted the longitude and latitude and then manually input these coordinates into my astrological software to firm up the Ascendant.

Usually, all big cities have their geo-coordinates set at the town hall or the post office.

Someone born in a hospital in a big city could be up to 50km away from the actual city coordinates which pop up in astrology software.

Looking back now, I wonder “Who has time for this sort of deep dive?” but yes, I did.

I did it all back then.

3 Birth Time

The third piece of birth data required is the birth time.

Noon Chart

As the first step, if my client has no birth time, I will cast the noon chart.

A noon chart is created with the birth time set at 12 noon.

This is right in the middle of the day.

The idea is that with a noon chart you can only be 12 hours out.

And let’s face it 12 hours is still huge, but it is better than being 24 hours out.

With the noon chart you have to ignore the angles and house cusps.

Although you can be pretty confident on lots of the planets in their signs and many of the aspects will hold up.

Noon Chart Exceptions

Of course, there are a couple of exceptions to being sure of a planet’s sign with a noon chart.

Exception 1: Sign Cusp Planets

Any planet, especially the Sun, Mercury, Venus or Mars, which is close to a sign cusp at 0 degrees or 29 degrees of any sign, could potentially change signs that day.

Planets do not conveniently change signs at midnight.

The sign ingress may occur either before noon or after noon.

Because in a noon chart we don’t have a firm birth time, you can’t say for sure which sign any planet that is placed on a sign cusp was in.

And note that this planet-on-sign-cusp can be any of the planets which might change signs, not just the personal planets.

Either way, the outer ones move slower, but if they are on a sign cusp you still have to check.

Consideration needs to be given to any sign cusp planet. Look out for retrograde motion as well.

You may need to keep an open mind about which of the potential two signs a cusp planet could tenant until you fully understand the chart.

Exception 2: The Moon

The second exception is the Moon.

The Moon trots along at give or take 13 degrees each day.

Therefore, in one 24-hour period the Moon will travel about 13 degrees through the zodiac.

So, for a 12-hour period, and here I mean our noon chart, it can potentially.

move around 6.5 degrees from the noon position.

That is, the Moon can travel up to 6.5 degrees before noon and 6.5 degrees after noon.

This means that if the Moon in the noon chart is 6.5 degrees from either sign boundary, the before sign and the after sign, it will be in that sign.

And for more certainty, if the Moon at noon is placed between 6.5 to 23.5 of a sign, it will be in that sign.

Double Check

Note, if the Moon is bang on 6.5 from a sign boundary, you must go back and check the lunar daily motion on that particular day. If it is greater than 13 degrees you will have to rethink the sign.

In a noon chart for example:

  • If the Moon is at 6 degrees Virgo it could be in the previous sign of Leo.
  • If the Moon is at 10 degrees Sagittarius it will definitely be in the sign of the Archer.
  • If the Moon is at 26 degrees Pisces it could be in the next sign, Aries.

You can tinker with an unknown birth time for days.

A Better Solution

But what if there was an easier way to find the birth time if you don’t know it?

Fortunately for us there is.

It’s called rectification.

Rectification

Rectification is a highly skilled astrological technique which explores the options for a better birth time and therefore firms up the Ascendant and the house cusps.

Not every astrologer practices rectification.

Rectification is usually used in two specific instances:

When there is no birth time, like what I’m talking about here with the noon chart, and,

If there is a birth time, but the chart doesn’t seem to fit comfortably with the person.

As maths is not my strong suit and due to the heavy load of numbers, maths and statistics required to work out someone’s rectification, it’s not something I do.

I will admit I have done rectification back in the day, but now I don’t do rectification nor do I enjoy doing it.

I feel it’s better left to the specialist astrologers who relish maths and love practicing rectification to help others.

Rectification Specialist

This week I am thrilled to share with you the conversation I had recently with professional astrologer, and rectification specialist, Norma Lachance.

Norma is a highly skilled professional astrologer with an advanced certificate (soon to be a diploma) from the Faculty of Astrological Studies, London, England.

And if you don’t know, the Faculty diploma is the world class honour you can receive in astrology today.

I’ve known Norma for about seven years.

She is the only rectification specialist to whom I confidently refer my own clients when they want, or need, their birth chart rectified.

norma-lachance-headshot

Recommendation

I love Norma’s style of astrology and the high energy and sparkle which she brings to her work.

That is why I’m supremely confident in referring her to you.

And let’s be quite clear here.

I want you to know that I’ll only recommend talented people to you, whom I believe will bring value and goodness into your life.

It’s important that you can trust the good-hearted people in the astrology community whom I send your way and those I feel are worthy of your time.

Listen to our rectification podcast episode and if you think it is something that will be right for you, reach out to Norma astrologydva@gmail.com and let her know that you discovered her from me.

Extend Yourself

You can extend yourself and lean into rectification in a couple of ways.

See if you can find someone in your family, friend circle or general client base who has an Ascendant within one degree of a sign cusp.

So, their Ascendant will either be at 0 and some minutes or at 29 degrees and some minutes of any sign.

Then in your astrology journal please do the following:

  • Look at the current Ascendant degrees and minutes and step the chart forward or backward to see how many minutes in time it would take to change the rising sign. Write this time down. It probably will be under ten minutes.
  • Note exactly how many minutes (of arc this time) is equal to the time in minutes. This will probably be less than 59’. You could also ask, “How far is the Ascendant from the cusp?” Which will return the same answer.
  • Consider whether the new rising sign would be a better fit for the person and their personality. Avoid making a snap decision here. Give this some thought. As I like to say, let it percolate.
  • Decide if the new chart ruler, the planet that rules the new Ascendent, better reflects the type of person the chart is for. This is sometimes clearer with some pairs of planets whose energy is quite different.

Example 1: Sun and Moon cusp – Cancer/Leo.

Example 2: Venus and Mars cusps – Aries/Taurus and Libra/Scorpio.

Example 3: Jupiter and Saturn cusps – Sagittarius/Capricorn and Aquarius/Pisces.

Extend Yourself Further

Think about whether you are ready, at your stage of astrology knowledge, to learn chart rectification.

Remember, rectification is not for everyone.

If you think rectification is something that interests you here are 3 ways to start exploring it now:

  • Read this book The Complete Book of Chart Rectification by Carol Tebbs from Llewellyn Publications.
  • Get your chart professionally rectified by Norma.
  • Invest in a serious rectification course with Norma. Learn how to rectify charts for your family, friends and clients.

I’d love to hear how you get on. Let me know your answers by completing this quick one minute survey.

I’ll report back on the results in a later email.

Sun Square Neptune

Sun Square Neptune

Author: Arwynne O’Neill  –   Published: June 2024

Sun square Neptune

Aspect Basics Series

Today we’re going to be talking about the Sun square Neptune. This is part of our basic aspect series.

We are going to be seeing this transit exact on June 20, 2024 with the Sun at 29 Gemini Square Neptune at 29 Pisces but we’re going to focus on what it looks like in someone’s natal chart and give some celebrity examples and it’s relevant regardless of when you’re listening because this aspect occurs twice every year. For the last few years, it has occurred in mid-June and mid-December.

Sun square Neptune in the natal chart

In her book Aspects and Personality, Karen Haymaker Zondag says, “The dream and fantasy world so typical of Neptune comes to the fore with this aspect. Inferiority feelings are not uncommon. The sources for this inferiority include Neptune’s habit of fudging boundary lines, which make it hard for us to see where our ego begins and ends or to discover who we are and what we want. The second is a nagging feeling that there’s something more, a feeling that another world lies beyond the world of perception and that our individual limitations are in sharp contrast to it.”

Spiritual Seeker

This person may be a spiritual seeker, with little interest in the real world, taking refuge in ideas and feelings or continually searching until they find an ideal that meets their emotional needs. There can be a lack of responsibility or grounding, but also a great deal of creativity, especially in music, poetry and other forms of wordplay, ideas, mysticism and metaphysics. These people can be incredibly eloquent and convincing, so they should be very clear within their own minds about their intentions, as they could potentially use their gifts to deceive and lead other people astray.

Sensitive

This is a very sensitive aspect, and this person often has to overcome insecurity and disappointments to build their self-esteem and confidence in order to feel strong. They can easily become confused, paranoid or dependent on drugs or alcohol if these dynamics are not dealt with in more productive ways. They should be cautious about chemicals, alcohol, drugs and medical treatments, and they may be susceptible to illnesses that defy explanation or diagnosis.

They may also fall victim to stronger personalities, people who try to take advantage of them or dominate them, like gurus or con artists. Although idealistic, life experiences can make it hard for these people to stand up for themselves, possibly because of their insecurity but also because they idealize other people and may find it hard to believe that others are not trustworthy or truly mean them ill.

They can be very altruistic and may be attracted to politics, volunteerism or activism, if they don’t become disillusioned. Spirituality can be used for good or ill; the darker realms of religious cults and political demagogues should to be avoided.

Honesty

People with this aspect are urged to be as honest and direct as possible because Neptune can blur your intentions whether you mean to be dishonest or not. This is amazing for creativity, music, writing, etc., but can be challenging when it comes to dealing honestly with others, promoting yourself or pursuing your own goals. There may be a feeling of insecurity, guilt or the desire to apologize; over idealizing others and being gullible can lead to disappointment.

Sun square Neptune by transit

Your energy level can be lowered to the point where your immune system suffers or you may feel discouraged and beaten down by circumstances. This is not a great confidence boosting transit. You may feel inadequate and consumed by the futility of pursuing your goals.

Put off anything that requires clear thinking until this transit passes. It can stimulate idealism which can be great if you’re trying to produce something creative or beautiful but don’t be discouraged if what you create doesn’t match your ideal vision.

The Vertex

The Vertex

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: May 2024

Vertex: The Third Angle

There are several points that pop up in an astrology chart.

And really you can add as many or as few as you wish.

You may start by adding points to your advanced natal readings first with the lunar nodes and then maybe the Part of Fortune or the Vertex.

I’m a fan of all these chart points.

But today, I’m going to share a few of my thoughts on the Vertex.

Astronomy for Astrologers

The Vertex is a sensitive point in astrology.

The Vertex is found at the intersection of the ecliptic in the West and the prime vertical.

Also note that the anti-vertex, or contra-vertex, is directly opposite the Vertex

I have a super clear (I hope) diagram for the vertex below.

the-vertex-astrology-chart-point

Vertex Position

The Vertex is always on the western side of the chart.

It usually is in one of the four houses close to the Descendant.

Astute readers will notice that these four houses form the second triple division, the “We” division, as well.

Now and then it may not be in the four houses.

The exceptions are for people born in super high latitudes (greater than 60 degrees) from the equator.

In these high latitude birthplace charts, the Vertex can be in the 4th or 10th houses.

But in all my years as an astrologer, I’ve only ever come across these outlier placements twice.

So, it’s not common at all.

In general, the Vertex is placed either in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th house.

Vertex Symbolism

The Vertex position is a sensitive point in any chart.

It is like a revolving door where people can come into, and go out of, your life.

People from the past can pop in and out of your life when your Vertex is energized.

If you meet an old school friend whom you’ve not seen for twenty years, chances are that your Vertex is being stimulated by a transit or progression.

Third Angle

As the Vertex is often referred to as the Third angle after the Ascendant and the Midheaven its meaning can be simplified as follows:

  • Your Ascendant is what you are.
  • Your Midheaven is what you do.
  • Your Vertex is what is expected of you.

Vertex Keywords

A few vertex keywords are:

  • Turning point
  • Pivot
  • In
  • And
  • Fated quality.
  • Self-mirror
  • What must be brough forth in life.

People Themes

The Vertex often suggests repetitive relationships with a certain echo theme in the nature of your Vertex complex.

This shows up as, for example, when your sister’s next boyfriend seems to be just like the last one.

It can be easy not to learn the lessons of the Vertex.

Gaining People

Births

Newborn babies whose births directly affect you (by being in your family or close circle) may occur at times when your Vertex is triggered.

New People

New and significant people can enter your life when your Vertex is contacted.

This usually happens by the planets in the new person’s own chart conjoining your Vertex.

The Vertex and Losing People

Moving Away

If close people move out of your life, by literally moving away, it often happens when your Vertex is involved.

Divorce

Typically, upon divorce your Vertex is contacted as your spouse leaves.

But often they come back now and then.

Letting Go

The time when you finally let go of relationships can be as your Vertex is aspected for the last time by a transiting planet.

Deaths

People may leave your life permanently, by dying, when your Vertex is stimulated.

the-vertex-image

Vertex House

5th House

When the Vertex is in the fifth house it suggests loved ones are important.

Fifth house people are your girlfriends, boyfriends, lovers, fiancées, midwives, childbirth support person, your own children and people you party with.

6th House

When the Vertex is in the 6th House it suggests colleagues are important.

Sixth house people are your workmates, your vet, employees, maids, nursemaids, cleaners, the pool guy, the lawn guy, gym buddies, health instructors and your dietician.

7th House

When the Vertex is in the 7th House is suggests your husband, wife or significant other is important.

7th house people are your husband or wife, your common law spouse, your significant other, your business partners, anyone who confronts you and those who challenge you in open court.

8th House

When the Vertex is in the 8th house it suggests intimate partners are important.

8th house people are your intimate partners, your secret lovers, your faceless blood, egg, sperm and tissue donors, your creditors, your credit loans guy, your angel investors, your secret supporters who vote for you and the grim reaper.

Takeaway

The Vertex is a nice-to-have point in a chart.

It’s not the first thing you interpret which is why it is part of advanced natal astrology.

There is no pressure to work with the Vertex subtle energy.

You can ignore it if you wish or begin to consider the Vertex in your readings.

Extend Yourself

In your astrology journal please do the following:

  • Write “Vertex” as the page header.
  • Draw the “Vx” glyph. You can get as fancy or arty as you like.
  • Note the sign, degree and minute position.
  • Add your Vertex sign ruler.
  • Write your Vertex house.
  • List five keywords for the Vertex. You can do more research here.
  • Find the date when the transiting Sun crosses your Vertex, be on the lookout for people with that birthday.
vertex-journal-page

Extend Yourself Further

Vertex Aspects

Vertex aspects can be very revealing particularly around your close relationships and people.

List all natal Ptolemaic aspects to your Vertex.

Write one sentence interpreting each Vertex aspect. You can add more info here later.

Vertex House

The Vertex house shows which area of life, and those people associated there, are likely to be stimulated. In your astrology journal please do the following:

  • Draw a single column table with four rows, one for each house.
  • Write 8th, 7th, 6th and 5th in each row going down.
  • List two people specific people in your life who are represented in each of the four houses.
  • Do some research and write 5 key sentences for when the Vertex in each house.

Vertex Sign Ruler

If your Vertex sign ruler, that is the planet which rules the sign that the Vertex is in, actually aspects the Vertex, it signals a higher vibrational energy.

Pay close attention to any of these aspects.

If the Vertex’s planetary ruler has a good condition, it supports the Vertex in your chart.

If the Vertex’s planetary ruler has a difficult condition, it reduces the effect and influence of the Vertex.

Jupiter Trine Pluto

Jupiter Trine Pluto

Author: Arwynne O’Neill  –   Published: May 2024

Basic Aspect Series: Jupiter trine Pluto

This is almost a generational aspect because Jupiter takes 12 years to go around the zodiac, so this aspect only happens every 8-10 years and this is an interesting one because both of these planets have just entered the air signs. Jupiter will be in Gemini for the next year, and we’ve done an entire podcast about Jupiter in Gemini so please go listen to that, as this aspect will be affecting everyone in different ways.

Pluto will be in Aquarius until 2046 which is a massive generational placement that we’ve also done an entire episode about. Jupiter will be at 1° Gemini trine Pluto at 1° Aquarius on June 2, 2024, but in this episode we’re going to focus on what this aspect looks like in someone’s natal chart.

Jupiter trine Pluto in the birth chart

The trine is one of the soft aspects, the other being the sextile. Trines are flowing aspects that occur between signs in the same element, in this case, air. Air signs are characterized as intellectual, innovative, communication, community-oriented, outgoing and curious.

Trines create positive movement, and in this case, opportunities for growth and profound transformation. Jupiter is the big benefic in the solar system and Pluto is the planet of death, rebirth and transformation, so when they’re in aspect, these two planets come together to create a very exciting, powerful, dynamic potential for positive change.

Some of the keywords with Jupiter trine Pluto aspects are growth, improvement, healing, perception, ability to understand profound or complicated issues, ability to plan and organize, pursuit of success and a growth orientation. This person fully believes in their own ability to improve things and to make profound impacts in life wherever they choose to set their sights. They can be excellent researchers and investigators. They’re determined to get to the bottom of any issue whatever it is and they may become obsessed or adamant with finding the truth or expressing that truth to others.

These people need to feel important and they can have very strong willpower and great power of persuasion. Great explorers, investigators, and social organizers.

This is an ideal aspect for legislators, judges, politicians, detectives, publishers and scientists. These people are ideally suited for fields where they can use their talents at investigation, handling other people’s resources, managing other people’s talents and money and expanding anything they touch in the realm of success, power, influence and philosophy.

Jupiter trine Pluto by Transit

If transiting Pluto is making a trine to your natal Jupiter or vice versa, you might feel motivated to take control of your life’s direction, an amplified need for personal power, growth and change. You may have outgrown situations or environments in your life and feel the need to supercharge your personal transformation. Keywords are radical growth, intense metamorphosis, boundless confidence, plumbing of the depths, shedding your limitations, growing ambitions, big challenges and bold moves opportunities for growth and beneficial use of power.

This could also enhance your need for spiritual meaning, higher connections or interconnectedness. If you’re a spiritual person or someone who believes in coincidences or synchronicities you may have a field day with this transit. Make time for self-reflection, meditation, journaling or doing something that puts you in tune with your own inner voice or whatever the divine means to you. Share your vulnerabilities with others and make deep connections, seek meaning wherever you can, and accept the gifts of insight that the universe offers. When Jupiter’s expansion meets Pluto’s X-ray vision, dreams can become manifest and aspirations can become real. Set your sights high.

3 Tips to Reduce Interpretation Overwhelm

3 Tips to Reduce Interpretation Overwhelm

Author: Alison Price  Published: March 2024

Interpretation Overwhelm

When you’re just starting to learn how to read a chart, it can feel like there’s a lot to take in. Whether you’re a hobbyist, an amateur, or a student astrologer, it’s helpful to start by focusing on the essentials.

You don’t have to tackle everything at once; instead, you can gradually explore the finer details of chart reading over time.

The key is to prioritize understanding the main elements of the chart first.

Many people wonder where to begin with chart reading because there’s so much to explore. It’s true, there are countless details, some obvious and some more subtle, waiting to be discovered.

However, you don’t need to try to absorb everything all at once, especially with your next chart.

To help ease the overwhelm of starting out as an astrologer, here are three strategies you can use when approaching a chart for the first time.

Interpretation Overwhelm: Visible Planets

Planets to Display

One approach to reduce overwhelm is to focus solely on the visible planets.

Traditionally, there are seven visible planets: the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

To start, I recommend displaying only these planets on the chart.

Planets to Cut Out

You won’t include Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, or factors like Chiron, Eris, and other asteroids.

Also, you won’t show into the lunar nodes or other specific points for now.

These topics are best saved for later exploration.

Interpretation Overwhelm: Ptolemaic Aspects

Big Five Aspects

To further simplify your interpretation process, focus only on the five Ptolemaic aspects.

These include the conjunction, opposition, trine, square, and sextile.

These are the essential aspects you should concentrate on initially.

Aspects To Ignore

You should disregard the minor aspects, including the semi-sextile, quincunx, semi-square, and sesquiquadrate.

Also, ignore any aspects beyond the basic five, such as quintiles, septiles, noviles, and deciles.

While these lesser-used aspects have their significance, you don’t need to focus on them when you’re just starting out.

Interpretation Overwhelm: Tighten Orbs

Cut Orbs

Next, I recommend halving the orbs.

By doing so, you’ll focus only on the aspects that are tighter in orb, making them more significant in the chart reading.

This adjustment helps streamline your interpretation process.

Conjunctions, Oppositions, Trines and Squares

Reduce the orb for the conjunction from its original 8° to 4°, allowing only conjunctions with a 4° orb or less to appear in the chart.

Similarly, adjust the orbs for oppositions, trines and squares to also have a 4° orb.

This ensures that only tighter aspects are considered in the chart analysis.

Sextiles

When halving the orbs, decrease the orb for the sextile from 4° to 2°.

With fewer aspects to interpret, you’ll focus on the ones that matter most initially.

Keep in mind that tighter orbs indicate greater significance for the aspect.

Example Chart: Andy Warhol

Let’s have a look at an example chart with these three ways of reducing overwhelm applied.

Chart Data

We’ll take the chart for Andy Warhol who was born at 6:30 AM on August the 6th, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

Andy-warhol-birth-chart
Andy-warhol-aspectarian

Visible Planets Only

In a typical full birth chart, which is what I usually use, there are 12 planets and four points displayed.

However, this chart also includes 55 aspects in the aspectarian, which a professional astrologer would interpret, but you don’t need to dig into all of them at the beginning.

By simplifying the display to include only the visible planets, the chart becomes much easier to read.

You’ll immediately notice that it’s simpler to interpret, with only seven aspects in the aspectarian for you to understand.

Andy-warhol-birth-chart-visible-planets-only
Andy-warhol-aspectarian

Ptolemaic

When we narrow down the aspects to the five Ptolemaic ones, the chart becomes significantly easier to interpret.

Now, there are only 6 aspects to decipher, comprising 3 squares and 3 trines.

Andy-warhol-birth-chart
ansy-warhol-birth-chart-aspectarian-ptolemaic-aspects-only

Cut Orbs

By halving the orbs, we further reduce the number of aspects to deal with. Now, there are only 3 aspects remaining.

However, it’s important to note that the Fire Grand Trine is the only aspect pattern left in this chart, underscoring the supreme significance of this major aspect pattern and the 3 trines that comprise it for this specific chart reading.

Andy-warhol-birth-chart
Andy-warhol-aspectarian

Take Away

Interpretation Overwhelm

By implementing all three steps to reduce the amount of data for interpretation, the information is significantly pared down.

In Andy Warhol’s chart, we’re left with only 3 aspects.

However, it’s not necessary to take all three steps every time you want to reduce the quantity of information to interpret. You can opt for just one of the steps mentioned above.

For instance, you might choose to retain all the planets in the chart but simply reduce the orbs.

Alternatively, you could keep all the planets but focus solely on Ptolemaic aspects.

Either approach will effectively decrease the amount of information you need to interpret.

Sign and House

For your chart reading you will still have to interpret every planet which is displayed by its sign and house. That’s where using the visible planets comes in.

Aspects

As you begin to trim down both the aspect set and the orbs within it, you’ll notice a considerable decrease in the workload for each chart.

The beauty of this approach to reducing information overwhelm is that what remains are the crucial Ptolemaic aspects involving visible planets.

These aspects form the backbone of the chart reading process.

Creating Information Overwhelm

Let’s approach this from another angle.

Whenever you introduce additional elements to a chart, such as asteroids or fixed stars, you inevitably increase the interpretation load.

Each new component requires consideration by sign, house and aspect, adding more work to the process.

Moreover, if you decide to include quintile aspects, while intriguing, it further burdens your interpretation load since these aspects also need to be analyzed.

The key takeaway here is that the more you add to a chart, the more it contributes to your interpretation workload.

Conversely, simplifying what’s displayed within the chart brings clarity to what truly matters, focusing on the tight, Ptolemaic aspects between visible planets.

Let me know which of these 3 tips you will try to reduce your chart information load and improve your chart readings.

Venus Conjoined Uranus

Venus Conjoined Uranus

This is a Guest Post from Arwynne O’Neill, research astrologer and the co-host of the Starzology Astrology podcast.

Venus Conjoined Uranus

Uranus transits to natal Venus

In his book Planets in Transit, Robert Hand describes the transit of Uranus conjunct Venus as potentially spectacular. He says you are likely to seek freedom and excitement through relationships at this time, especially sexual relationships. You may decide to break away from an old, steady partner to seek out a new and exciting affair.

Of course this can be very disruptive, but if you’re not in a steady relationship, this may be a time where you meet someone who sweeps you off your feet or vice versa. You could find yourself in an affair that’s different from anything you’ve experienced before. It may not last but it would certainly have a lasting effect even after the transit is over.

Venus also rules creativity so if you are an artist or involved in anything creative this can be an amazing transit and you can use it to integrate new techniques into your repertoire and make exciting breakthroughs in any creative pursuit.

Uranus conjunct Venus in the Birth Chart

Venus conjunct Uranus in the natal chart influences the personality by fusing the love and attraction nature with electricity, excitement, innovation, restlessness. This is probably not someone who will be content to settle down with their first love and never explore the other possibilities, and the same can be said of their financial outlook.

Depending on how well Venus is placed in their chart, they can be a fun and original partner who is always bringing excitement and playfulness into your life, or conversely, they may be the type who’s always on the lookout for the next exciting infatuation, next big investment or the next con. This can be good or bad, of course, depending on how it’s handled, and how well the people around them deal with change, and it also depends a great deal on the sign the two planets are in. This is definitely the “love at first sight” aspect. Sparks will fly.

Love and Finances

These people tend to go with their gut feelings in matters love and finances, for better or worse. They’re adaptable and original but can also be fickle. The most important thing to them in a relationship is having the freedom to be themselves and to change and evolve. If you’re in a relationship with someone with this aspect, and not allowing them to change or evolve, don’t expect it to last.

Often, these people are attracted to others with the same aspect or similar and that can create an exciting partnership where shared adventures and mutual evolution are the keys to lasting happiness together.

In her book Aspects and Personality, Karen Hamaker-Zondag says, “Venus represents the need for harmony and warmth, teaming up with Uranus, the need for individuality, freedom and a life of our own can make us bold, eccentric or reformist. Being highly-strung and having an overpowering desire for personal freedom, we can experience difficulty forming firm friendships, which make us nervous, tense and insecure because we are also trying to stay unfettered.” But she says relationships can work as long as we don’t feel hemmed in by conventional rules, have scope for development and above all are living with a partner who is unconventionally stimulating.

Creative Brilliance

This aspect is highly correlated with creative brilliance, and they tend to have a finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist, whatever field they choose to express their creativity in. Fashion, home decor, film and music are natural outlets for their specific brand of creative genius.

Since Venus has to do with money, these people can have great peaks and valleys in their financial life, experiencing the depths of ruin and the heights of economic windfalls and success through innovation and creativity.

Rose McGowan (in Libra)
Warren Beatty (in Taurus)
Christina Aguilera (in Scorpio)
Miley Cyrus (in Capricorn)

Fixed Stars

Michael Barwick

Last month I had a fabulous conversation with my longtime friend and astrologer Michael Barwick.

If you are looking for a different type of astrology reading than the norm, then consider investing in a Star Profile reading with Michael.

In his Toronto astrology practice, he specializes in providing Star Profile consultations which explore your chart through the lens of Fixed Stars.

I’m happy to share Michael’s intriguing insights into Fixed Stars in this podcast episode

Micheal-barwick

More of Fixed Stars

Once you’ve listened to the podcast episode I thought I’d share some further work I’ve been doing on Fixed Stars in general and in my astrology journal.

Over time I’ll separate out each Fixed Star to its own post/page.

I’m getting deeper with one special fixed star which is in Taurus, Aldebaran.

I’ll give you some idea of the types of meaning this star may have if it is closely conjoins your angles or visible planets.

Fixed Stars Definition

In astrology, “Fixed Stars” are the stars that appear in the night sky. While they’re called “Fixed,” these stars are in motion, just like everything else in the universe.

However, their movement is so slow that they seem to stay in relatively the same position over long periods of time.

These stars have been observed and studied for centuries because of their dynamic influence in interpretations and predictions.

Even though Fixed Stars not truly “fixed”, their slow movement makes them a stable reference point in the night sky.

The 4 Seasons and Quadrants

The zodiac is split into four equal parts based on the positions of the equinoxes and solstices, which are key astronomical events.

Each of these four segments, or quadrants, is associated with a principal star.

These significant stars are collectively referred to as the Four Royal Stars of Persia.

They hold special importance because they mark the transition points between the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

The Four Royal Stars of Persia

Cardinal Points

Back in the day, the Four Royal Stars of Persia were positioned at the four cardinal points.  This was significant as they aligned the equinoxes and solstices.

Each of these stars held special importance and was revered for its unique qualities and symbolic meanings, but their positions have shifted over time.

This slow movement means that while the Four Royal Stars of Persia have moved from their original cardinal positions, their change in location is relatively minor.

Aldebaran (Alpha Taurus)

Associated with the Eye of the Bull, once aligned with zero degrees Gemini or Taurus.

Regulus (Alpha Leo)

Known as the Heart of the Lion.

Antares (Alpha Scorpio)

This star is the Heart of the Scorpion.

Fomalhaut (Alpha Pisces)

Placed at the Mouth of the Fish.

These important stars continue to hold significance as their influence extends beyond their original positions.

constellation-taurus

Fixed Star Aldebaran

Current Position

Aldebaran is in Taurus. It is the star in the Eye of the Bull.

Taurus

The sign of Taurus is known for its steadfast nature, practicality and appreciation for the finer things in life.

Taurus embodies the qualities of practicality, determination and sensuality.

With Aldebaran in Taurus, there’s an added layer of grace to the Bull’s grounding energy role.

This placement encourages us to cultivate patience, appreciate life’s pleasures and remain steadfast in our pursuits.

In general, Aldebaran represents a beacon of light and wisdom.

Visibility

Lying close to the ecliptic Aldebaran is visible from latitudes from 74° North to 74° South.

Mythology

In mythology, Aldebaran is often referred to as the “Watcher of the East.”

It symbolizes vigilance, protection and guidance.

The Greatest Star

Aldebaran is considered one of the brightest and most magnificent stars in the night sky

It holds a revered status of great significance.

Aldebaran Themes

Challenge of Integrity and Test of Honor

Aldebaran presents challenges related to integrity and honor.

It urges you to uphold your principles and be honest and authentic.

Energy and Short-lived Honor

This royal star gives you with dynamic energy and the potential for short-lived honor or recognition.

It encourages proactive action to seize opportunities.

Lack of Stability

Aldebaran may indicate periods of instability or change that challeng you to adapt, persevere and find inner balance when under external pressure.

Spring Equinox

Moral Dilemmas and Temptation to Compromise

Bundle Chart Shape

Bundle Chart Shape

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: July 2013   –   Revised: January 2024

Bundle Chart Shape

Bundle Definition

The bundle chart shape is formed when all the planets are found within a trine (120°).

The leading, or cutting, planet and the trailing planet at the end, can be in a trine aspect (or less), and all the other planets fall within that trine.

This creates a “bundle” of energy, with most of the planets occupying a couple of signs or span just a few houses.

bundle-chart-shape-diagram

Mandala

The chart shape diagram itself can be used as a mandala for chart meditation work as well.

The planet positions, without knowing the actual planet, can provide information for the astute astrologer.

This is an opportunity not to be missed.

chart-as-a-mandala

Bundle Leading Planet

In a bundle chart, the leading planet (in red) plays a significant role.

The leading planet is the one that’s furthest ahead (clockwise) of the others as they move around the zodiac.

It acts as a focal point or guiding force for the energy of the entire bundle.

Here’s what the leading planet in a bundle chart signifies:

Dominant Energy

The leading planet sets the tone for the chart’s energy.

Its qualities and characteristics are emphasized and often color how the individual approaches life.

Focus of Attention

This planet often represents where the person directs their attention, efforts, and interests.

It can indicate the area of life that is most important or central to them.

Strengths and Talents

The leading planet can point to the person’s strengths, talents and natural abilities.

It shows where they excel and where they can make the most impact.

Challenges

On the flip side, the leading planet can also highlight challenges or areas of growth for the individual.

It might point to lessons they need to learn or obstacles they need to overcome and push through.

Personal Mission

On a subtle level, the leading planet often represents the individual’s personal mission or purpose in life.

It can indicate what drives them and what they are passionate about achieving.

Influence on Other Planets

The energy of the leading planet can influence how the other planets in the bundle express themselves.

It is like the leader of the pack.

It can either harmonize with them or create tension, depending on its relationship with the other planets.

leading-and-trailing-planets

Bundle Trailing Planet

In a bundle astrology chart, where the leading planet sets the tone and directs the energy of the bundle, the trailing planet (in yellow) provides a counterbalance and adds depth to the chart’s dynamics.

Here’s what the trailing planet suggests in a bundle chart:

Supportive Energy

The trailing planet acts as a supportive force, complementing the leading planet’s energy.

It offers a different perspective or approach that can help balance out the chart’s intensity.

Hidden Strengths

This planet often points to hidden strengths or talents that may not be immediately obvious but are valuable assets.

It can indicate areas where the individual has untapped potential.

Inner World

The trailing planet can represent the person’s inner world, subconscious, or emotional landscape.

It shows how they process emotions, intuition, and inner experiences.

Challenges

The trailing planet can also highlight areas of challenge or growth for the individual.

It might indicate lessons they need to learn or obstacles they need to overcome, often related to its sign, house placement, and aspects.

Balance

While the leading planet focuses on a specific area or goal, the trailing planet helps to bring balance by considering other facets of life.

It encourages a more holistic approach and can prevent the individual from becoming too one-sided or narrow-focused.

Influence on Leading Planet

Just as the leading planet influences the other planets in the bundle, the trailing planet can also have a moderating influence on the leading planet.

It can either harmonize with the leading planet or introduce challenges that encourage growth and development.

Understanding the trailing planet in a bundle chart involves looking at its sign, house placement, aspects with other planets, and its overall condition in the chart.

If the leading planet and the trailing plant are trine, it give support to the whole chart and the meanings of both planets (leading and trailing) will blend better to suggest positive energy will flow.

Harrison-ford-birth-chart-bundle-shape

Bundle Chart Shape Meaning

Here’s what the bundle chart shape means:

Focused Energy

The bundle shape suggests a person with extreme focus at the expense of variety.

They are often highly specialized in what they do.

The cutting planet is important as it leads, or cuts, the chart.

The empty two-thirds of the chart, and their meaning, may pose a difficulty for the individual.

The chart may have few manifesting squares and no oppositions.

People with a bundle chart often have a concentrated focus in their lives.

They might have a strong sense of purpose or direction.

Intensity

With so many planets grouped closely together, there can be a sense of intensity or passion in the areas of life represented by those planets.

Specialization

The bundle often indicates specialization in a particular area or skill.

These individuals might excel in one specific field or interest.

Challenges

On the flip side, having all the planets in a small portion of the chart can mean less balance.

Areas of life not represented by the bundle might be neglected or require more attention.

Self-Reliance

People with a bundle chart shape may be quite self-reliant, as they’ve learned to work with the energies they have, rather than seeking balance from external influences.

Understanding the bundle shape can offer insight into how a person approaches life, their strengths, challenges, and areas of focus.

It’s just one piece of the complex puzzle that is an astrology chart, but it can tell us a lot about someone’s energy and personality.

Example Bundle Chart

May 2024

This bundle chart has been in effect for a couple of weeks during April and May 2024.

I have chosen this particular chart as an example.

When the Moon moves out of the bundle it is no longer a bundle chart and may form a fan.

Whilst the planets are in this tight within-a-trine bundle configuration other chart shapes cannot be formed like grand crosses, mystic rectangles, T-squares or kites.

bundle-chart-shape

Leading Planet

The leading planet of the bundle is Pluto retrograde in Aquarius.

bundle-chart-shape-aspectarian

Trailing Planet

The trailing planet is Jupiter in Taurus.

Before Jupiter passed Uranus at their conjunction, the bundle was tighter and Uranus was the trailing planet.

Extend Yourself

If You Have a Bundle Chart

Thinking about the current bundle chart shape and your natal chart:

  • Do you (or do people you know) have a bundle chart shape?
  • If so, what is the leading planet? And what is the trailing planet?

Extend Yourself Further

If You Don’t Have a Bundle Chart

In your astrology journal consider the shape of your chart.

  • Over which of your houses, quadrants and hemispheres does the current transiting bundle chart lie?
  • What is your chart shape?
  • In your chart shape, are there focus planets like a leading, trailing or handle planets? Which planets are they?

From My Readers…

You Did Extend Yourself

Here are a couple of responses from those of you who have extended yourselves.

Thank you so much!

Hi Alison!

Enjoyed your take on the Bundle chart pattern. My answers are:

I’m a Leo rising so the current bundle pattern affects my 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th houses. Natally, I have a Locomotive pattern with Uranus in Gemini in the 10th house leading the pack and Mercury in Capricorn in the 6th house trailing. Uranus is conjunct Mars by 1 degree. Uranus rules my 7th house and Mercury my 2nd and 11th.

Keep up the good work!
Sagittarily yours,
Judy

Mars Conjoined Neptune

Mars Conjoined Neptune

This is a Guest Post from Arwynne O’Neill, research astrologer and the co-host of the Starzology Astrology podcast.

Mars conjunct Neptune in Transit

When Mars transits your natal Neptune, which happens once every two years approximately, the effect is about being motivated to either impact the world through your creativity or through your empathy.

It can blur the boundaries of your ambition, infusing your motivation with empathy and vulnerability and blurring the boundaries between yourself and others, or in can infuse your Mars energy with a diffuse glow of glamour, imagination, vulnerability and a quality of unreality.

Not a great time to try to accomplish fixed goals where you know the end in sight. Instead, it’s a good time to forge ahead and go where the wind takes you. The effect will last for a couple of week or so on either side of the exact conjunction.

Robert Hand says when transiting Neptune conjuncts your Mars, you could be subject to discouragement and malaise. Your energy level is low and it’s hard to accomplish anything in your own interest. You may be more vulnerable to infections, so be careful taking any foreign substances, even prescriptions because the effects can be unpredictable.

You can also be dishonest or devious without meaning to, thus damaging your reputation and the trust you may have built up with others, which can do lasting damage.

Mars conjunct Neptune in the Natal Chart

People with Neptune conjunct Mars in their charts tend to be idealistic, principled, penetrating and passionate. You’re inclined to overstep other people’s boundaries in pursuit of your own goals or your own desire to merge or connect. Neptune can either elevate Mars and be used as the impetus to make the world better through ideals put into action or it can dissipate Mars’ ambition into sentimentality and overcompensation or over-emotionality, in relationships and otherwise.

A difficulty in knowing where your boundaries end and others’ begin is common with this aspect. You can either be a torch of inspiration for others or you can overpower them with your zealotry. People with this aspect can be amazing symbols for a cause or goal, blazing a trail where others fear to tread, but it can be dangerous as well because these energies mix like fire and water… or oil and some explosive compound. Your success will largely depend on how strong Mars is in your chart and what other aspects it makes.

People with this aspect need to know their “why,” to have a realm where they can be evangelists or spiritual warriors. Being able to follow your ideals as a champion is important. But it’s also important to have a strong moral compass or you can get caught up in the wrong kinds of causes, devolve into illusion, paranoia or mania and use the sheer force of your charisma and the power of your belief to bring others down the road to ruin with you.

If you’re interested in Neptune or if you have Neptune aspects in your chart, an excellent book is Liz Greene’s The Astrological Neptune and the Quest for Redemption. She’s a brilliant psychological astrologer from the middle of the 20th century who was very popular in the ’80s and ’90s when I was learning astrology, and it’s well worth a read if you’re interested in advanced mythological studies of astrology. In it, she says “Mars-Neptune aspects, like Dionysus, can be a seducer but sometimes as a collective we need to be seduced. This longing lies at the core of religious worship, as well as the catharsis of a musical or theatrical performance.”

She goes on to say, “The dilemma lies in the integrity of the goal and how it is pursued. Mars’ innately self-centered desires, when diluted with Neptunian waters, must include others if the individual’s needs are to be fulfilled. [Otherwise,] aggression may be masked by apparent docility and the rage which lurks beneath the surface may become the chief factor behind drug and alcohol addictions, which reflect anger and vengeance against life as much as the desire to escape.

When a well-lit channel cannot be found for Mars-Neptune’s romantic heroism–political, military, scientific, artistic–may be sought in darker waters. Mars-Neptune may also elect, like Charles Manson, who had the exact conjunction, to play the anti-hero who destroys himself and others rather than endure the dreariness of a decent but unglamorous life.”

Jupiter Conjoined Uranus

Jupiter Conjoined Uranus

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: April 2024

Jupiter Conjoins Uranus

Conjunction of the Month

On April 21st, 2024 Jupiter finally gets to the exact conjunction with Uranus.

This is a one hit transit as Jupiter is moving direct and close to the Sun.

Neither of the superior planets are past the trine to the Sun and therefore there cannot be a three-hit transit in April with Jupiter and Uranus.

Triple hits transits frequently happen, but not this time.

It’s like Jupiter is gaily trotting through Taurus and connects to Uranus, BAM, then makes a clean getaway.

Uranus has been in Taurus since 2018 and Jupiter only entered Taurus in May last year.

The exact conjunction is at 21° Taurus which makes this degree the moment for the start chart for the Jupiter Uranus synodic cycle.

In Orb

Jupiter applies to Uranus (use a 1° orb) on April 15th. This conjunction shall remain within orb until Jupiter breaks the connection when is separates on April 26th.

This blended planetary energy begins, peaks and fades in a mere eleven days, or just over a week and a half.

Synodic Cycle Start Chart

I’ve cast the synodic cycle start chart for the Jupiter Uranus conjunction.

The influence of this cycle will last for thirteen years until the next conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in 2037.

jupiter-conjoined-uranus-chart-21-april-2024

2037 Conjunctions

During the 2037 conjunction there will be three exact hits. One direct, the next retrograde and the third direct.

This all goes down over a period of two months during March and April 2037. It all happens in Cancer.

Interestingly, this means that the sign of The Twins is bypassed altogether for a Jupiter Uranus conjunction.

Who this Conjunction Affects

Your Birthday

If you were born between the 15th to 26th of April, this conjunction will be hard baked into your solar return chart. The significance for you will last for a full 12 months until your next birthday.

Planets at 21° Taurus

If you have planets at 21° Taurus (with a one-degree orb coming and going), this powerful conjunction will impact you in the nature if the natal planet, including its complex, being conjoined.

Sun Square Pluto

Sun Square Pluto

Sun Square Pluto in Transit

Today we’re going to be talking about a transit that happens twice a year, which is the Sun square Pluto. The Sun will be at 2° Taurus and Pluto is at 2° Aquarius and the aspect will be exact on April 21, 2024.

The key word for this transit is intensity. You might have ego conflicts with people, you might feel like you’re out of control, you might feel threatened by other people’s aggression or have power struggles with people in authority. You will have to put forth more effort than usual to avoid conflicts with other people because there transit brings an urge to dominate, control or abuse your power.

On the positive side you could try use it to assert your authority if you have not been in control of a certain situation and this may be a time where whether you want to or not you could assert yourself with success or not success depending on the situation this is a very intense emotional aspect that could trigger feelings of persecution, fear of death or losing control, feeling of being manipulated or spied on or dominated by other people fear of persecution, jealousy, addiction and abuse by other people. It’s a potentially very stressful aspect in this sense.

Because we’re dealing with the square and not the conjunction or even the opposition, the likelihood is that it would not go well if you try to assert your authority at this time. It is more likely that it would backfire so flying under the radar might be the best approach but you could definitely feel an intense need for control or the feeling of being out of control or overpowered at this time.

Sun in Taurus

Some keywords for Sun and Taurus in the natal chart include sensuality, stubbornness, earthiness, determination, appreciation of comfort and the good things in life, food, luxuries, leisure, financial security.

Many of our titans of Industry historically have had the sun in Taurus. It also has a correlation with the throat and a lot of people who have the sun in Taurus are well known for their beautiful, rich, soulful voices, including Orson Welles, Cher, Adele, Barbara Streisand, Al Pacino, Janet Jackson and George Clooney, etc.

Pluto in Aquarius

We’ve talked at length about Pluto in Aquarius already, you can find links to those episodes in the show notes. Briefly, it has to do with the transformative power of technology and innovation, AI, the use of technology in revolutionizing our daily lives, humanitarian uses of technology and the ability to use our ingenuity for the good of humanity, but also the control of people by technology.

Pluto often brings about a crisis in areas symbolized by the sign it’s in, like how the Pluto in Capricorn transit of 2008-2024 was marked by the financial crisis caused by the real estate bubble, the crumbling of institutions, suspicion of governments, high profile whistleblowers against powerful governments and corrupt businesses, etc.

Sun Square Pluto in the Natal Chart

When this aspect occurs in someone’s chart, power dynamics could be a big part of their personal narrative, beginning in childhood. These people are often drawn to the darker side of life, fascinated with issues of control, power dynamics, life and death, taboos, addiction and the occult.

They may have a desperate need to feel in control or a fear of being manipulated, intense emotions like paranoia, jealousy and compulsive competitiveness may lead them to destructive outbursts and intense conflicts with others.

One of the things about looking at celebrities as examples is that we’re usually going to see people who have used these energies for good and turned the negative potential around and use them in a positive way.

Since this aspect happens twice a year, it’s not uncommon, so we’ll also see examples of people who have absolutely not used it for good, including Joseph Mengele, and on the other end of the spectrum, JonBenet Ramsey.

Double and Triple Sign Glyphs

Double and Triple Sign Glyphs

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: April 2024

Ascendant and Sun

I’ve been thinking quite a lot lately about glyphs and people who are double signs. And by double signs I mean someone who has their Sun in a sign and their Ascendant in the same sign. glyphs

I myself am a double Leo. I have the Sun in Leo and my Ascendant is Leo.

Triple Signs

We can take it one step further. In my family, my brother is actually a triple Virgo.

He’s got his Ascendant in Virgo, his Sun in Virgo and his Moon in Virgo and yes, he works in micro-precision engineering.

Ascendant and Moon?

Now typically, you would refer to someone as double sign if they had the Sun and the Ascendant the same sign.

I think you can also stretch this to say that if you have the Ascendant and the Moon in the same sign then it’s a double sign.

Where you could then say they were a double Libra or a double Scorpio or whatever.

I’m not quite sure if this is the case (that the Ascendant and the Moon are referred to as a double sign), but it would pass muster.

New Glyphs

And then having given some consideration to double signs or triple signs, how would their glyphs look?

This week I’ve spent a bit of time tinkering with some new glyphs and I’m just going to show you a couple now.

Aries

A double Aries glyph would look like this (dark blue on the left) and clearly triple Aries like that (mid blue on the right).

Aries-glyph

Taurus

How about this one for double Taurus?

I couldn’t resist adding the eyes. And the triple Taurus with the horns joined.

taurus-glyph

Gemini

The symbol I have for double Gemini is shown below.

It’s really is quite an easy glyph to beef up because the single Gemini has two vertical lines, but the double Gemini will have three vertical lines.

What about the triple Gemini? They would have four vertical lines.

So fun.

gemini-glyph

Cancer

I see a double and triple Cancer looking like this. I’ve overlayed the circles of the commas to blend the glyph.

I’ve got the Cancer one at an angle in this example, but you could probably draw it straight as well.

cancer-glyph

Leo

A double Leo seems to have a continuous swoop with the circles on the lower level and the tail curving up and round.

After I’d done this one I thought it really looks like a double North Node and it does, but it would pass for Leo too I think…

It’s got flow when you write it so that works.

Leo-glyph

Virgo

The Virgo glyph is quite interesting because it’s not symmetrical.

I suggest the double and triple Virgos would look like these.

virgo-glyph

Libra

Let’s have a look at Libra.

Here’s my suggestion for a double Libra and triple Libra.

It could be done with the one bulge repeated above as well so that’s an idea.

libra-glyph

Scorpio

Scorpio is another tricky one because the main glyph is not symmetrical.

You could do it by creating 3 arches or perhaps put a double tail as I’ve shown here.

The triple one looks very busy and somehow it doesn’t seem quite right.

I’ll keep working on this design.

scorpio-glyph

Sagittarius

Sagittarius is pretty straightforward with a double or triple arrow.

Or even crossed arrows? Nah, that’s not the nature of Archers.

I plumped on these designs for Sagittarius.

sagittarius-glyph

Capricorn

Again, Capricorn falls into a pesky group because the original glyph is not symmetrical.

This one looks better if they are below and slightly to the right because if you keep the pen on the page the line just continues.

It has flow.

Here’s my examples for double Capricorn and triple Capricorn.

Capricorn-glyph

Aquarius

A single Aquarius has two wavy lines, one on top of each other.

So clearly a double Aquarius would have three wavy lines on top of each other and of course, then a triple Aquarius would have four wavy lines on top of each other. Maybe?

I tried that and was not keen on the look. I decided to go for the double and triple pyramids instead.

These are pretty simple new glyphs I think.

Aquarius-glyph

Pisces

Pisces, although symmetrical, has its challenges.

I rather like the first ones with the straight lines in the middle for the double Pisces.

And perhaps triple Pisces would look something like below.

pisces-glyph

There are a couple of options for Pisces, but isn’t that just the nature of the Fish sign?

The example glyphs below do bring in the extra fish, so four fish for the double Pisces and six fish for the triple Pisces.

I do feel the triple glyph is just too busy even though it’s almost got a shoal, or is that a school, of fish in it which, let’s face it, could be an indication of the triple Pisces person anyway.

alternative-pisces-glyph

Extend Yourself

General

In your astrology journal jot down the answers to the following:

  • Do you consider someone with their Ascendant and Moon in the same sign as a double sign?
  • How about someone with the Sun and Moon in the same sign, but not the Ascendant. Is that a double sign person?
  • Or do both components have to be the Ascendant and the Sun to qualify for “double” status?

Artistic?

  • If you are artistic, how do you see these sign symbols when they are double or triple signs?

I’d love to see your new double and triple glyph designs.

You can send your new glyph images to starzology@gmail.com with the subject line as “New Glyphs” and I’ll post some of them below here so we can all see.

What You Think

Here are a couple of notes that my readers, just like you, have sent in.

Responding to both questions, which of the big three (Ascendant, Sun and Moon) to use when considering “Double Sign” status and about my new designed double and triple glyphs.

I truly appreciate you all.

Thanks for sharing,

Alison 😊

Hi Alison,

I do consider Sun and Moon or Sun and Ascendent or Moon and Ascendent in same sign as double sign.  I think double status must include either Sun or Ascendent.

Your article is very thought provoking, I prefer your second glyphs for double and triple Pisces, better than the first one.

Cheers,

Lydia

Hi Alison,

Just wanted to let you know, I like the format of the newsletter. It’s easy to read, and I like the idea of the new glyphs for the double and triple signs.
Hope you’re doing well,

Mars Conjunct Saturn

Mars Conjunct Saturn

Author: Arwynne O’Neill  –   Published: March 2024

Mars conjunct Saturn in Transit

Today we’re talking about the upcoming transit of Mars conjunct Saturn, which is exact on April 10, 2024. This transit happens once every two years and this time it occurs in Pisces.

You may go into this transit feeling like you’ve been held back and you’re just waiting to unleash the full force of your powers of creativity. This transit could feel very frustrating, like your engine is revving but you’re being held down and unable to complete tasks you want to accomplish.

Obstacles in your way might require more patience, perseverance, hard work and planning but you should be able to persevere and achieve more than you would otherwise. This is a great time to overcome limitations or fears, to step up and harness all your faculties in spite of the difficult circumstances you’re facing.

This transit can give you the stamina and patience and initiative to work harder than ever, but it could also result in negative outbursts, passive aggression, nastiness and petty vindictiveness. It definitely needs to be dealt with constructively or else it could be a very destructive transit. You certainly don’t want to antagonize people needlessly at this time because there is a sense that this explosive energy is just barely being held in check.

Mars conjunct Saturn in the Natal Chart

With every aspect there are positive and negative expressions possible, but this is one of the more difficult conjunctions because the energies of Mars and Saturn are so opposite to each other. People with this aspect really needs to make a concerted effort to use it constructively or it can easily become a destructive, bitter and abusive influence. It’s like the stereotypical father who tells his kids they don’t have a right to expect an easy life because his life has been so hard. It’s a bitterness that becomes a cycle of violence if you’re not careful or aware of it.

People with this aspect tend to have great powers of endurance and mental fortitude. It’s the combination of two very opposite energies, Mars being the fiery motivating aggressive, martial force and Saturn being the planet of restriction and discipline, a much more conservative archetype. This aspect tends to create a personality that oscillates between action and control.

They can have an amazing amount of perseverance, discipline, patience and authority if they are able to make the most of this conjunction. This is the kind of person who will likely say that nothing has ever come easy to them. They will feel like everything they’ve accomplished in life has come through hard work and struggle and discipline and the harnessing of all their faculties to attain their goals.

This aspect in a sign like Aries or Sagittarius would have a very different expression than it does in Pisces, which we’re getting a lot of right now with major planetary placements in this watery sign.
