Creating Good Habits with The Moon – 30 Day Drawing Challenge

by Alison Price

Creativity

In astrology, your habits are closely realted to the Moon.

As the Moon passes through your birth chart it transits every house and forms every possible aspect to all of your planets.

Because of the Moon’s natural abilities, everything is sensed and instinctively known. You just have to pay attention.

Habits

To break a bad habit takes one lunar orbit of the Earth or one month.

By the same token, to build a good habit takes one lunar orbit of the Earth, or 30 days, give or take a whisker.

30 Day Drawing Challenge

Thus is born the 30 Day Challenge. All new habits can be established if they are practiced every day for 30 days.

I talk about the five components to live a satisfying life which are; love, money, wellbeing, vision and creativity.

I have taken up a creative project, and I will be doing a new sketch, or drawing,  every day for 30 days. You can join me if you like.

New habits that you begin are better supported, and more dynamic, when started at a New Moon, or a solar eclipse, like the one that occurred on August 11th, which spurred me into action as it was conjoined my Sun.

You can practice New Moon Wishing in line with your birth chart to support your creative new habits.

I will post my progress here. Tag your creations with #starz30 so we can see your beauties. “The 30 Day Drawing Challenge”

Please share this with anyone who needs to see it.

Have a prosperous day,

Alison ⭐️

Day 1

Vancouver Art Gallery - Day 1

The Vancouver Art Gallery from the steps of Robson Square, downtown Vancouver.

I take a photo just to show you. I complete the drawing at the location.

The buildings were a bit wobbly and the trees were hard to draw, but hopefully, I will get better over the next 29 days.

Day 2

The giant pandas outside the Marriott Parq Hotel in Vancouver.

This piece is named “Slow” by Chinese artist Zhang Huan. This sculpture is in stainless steel and is highly polished.

Huan’s pandas are “meant to eulogize eternal maternity and family while expressing expectations of a future, and expresses the artist’s understanding of human nature and his thoughts on love and eternity.”

This drawing was quite a challenge to do in pen and ink. There is about 50 shades of grey.

On a side note, I need to get another pen as this one seems to have run out of ink.

Day 2 of the 30 Day Drawing Challenge over. Roll on the next twenty-eight.

Day 3

Sunset Beach

This is the view across Sunset beach in Vancouver. Looking towards the west.

There were three main bands of color.

From the top down, the sky a hazy grey/blue due to lots of forest fire smoke, the sea which had more bands of dark blue and green within it, and the sand which was beige and grey, or greige, in the footsteps of the bathers.

Beachcombing was great and we collected many shells which we will use as mulch in the little plant pots in our apartment..

Day 4

The waterfall and rill in my local Emery Barnes park in Vancouver.

This was the first year for ages that they have had water flowing in the city parks due to recent water shortages.

The water itself was difficult to capture and somehow the falling water is not quite right, but I think the general image is ok.

Day 5

What is to come…

Cancer

by Alison Price

Cancer

The Sun is in the sign of Cancer from June 21st to July 23th.

The symbol is the Crab and their key phrase is “I feel…” which is often their sentence opener.

Cancer is the second cardinal sign which means you are leaders and Cancerians will often lead from behind. You are in the water element which indicates that much intuition is used and you are fluid and in the passive polarity suggesting a reticence for aggression and a more receptive approach to life.

The ruling planet is the Moon which is not really a planet at all but the natural satellite of the Earth. The Moon goes through phases and this is a typical attribute for Cancerians.

The Moon, Your Mother and Food

Progressed Moon and Transiting Saturn

The Moon, Your Mother and Food

by Alison Price

The Moon is an indicator of how you experienced your mother and food

How your mother shaped your eating habits is indicated by your Moon sign. Obviously, the full lunar complex needs analysis but try this as a first pass through the chart.

Instinctively we reach for the comfort food which is associated with early habits and patterning that our nurturing taught us.

If you trawl back through your memory banks to when you were a child sitting at the kitchen table maybe you can still hear these comments ringing in your ears.

Moon Signs

The Moon in Aries mother says, “Eat it while it’s hot” as she places a sizzling plate in front of you.

The Moon in Taurus mother says, “Don’t gulp your meal. Take your time and taste the food.”

The Moon in Gemini mother, drumming her fingers says, “Hurry up and finish your dinner I want the table for our jigsaw puzzle.”

The Moon in Cancer mother as she pats your hand says, “I prepared your favourite recipe, so when you eat it, it will make me feel good.”

The Moon in Leo mother dramatically says, “I have created yet another culinary masterpiece in my kitchen. I have put my heart into the preparation of your meal. I hope you appreciate it. Eat up.”

The Moon in Virgo mother, checking a packet’s food values label says, “Everything in this meal is healthy food so clean your plate.”

The Moon in Libra mother sitting opposite you says, “I’ll make a deal with you, If you eat your veggies we can have cake.”

The Moon in Scorpio mother whilst watching you closely says, “Don’t waste food, people in the world are dying of starvation, eat up.”

The Moon in Sagittarius mother says, “I’m trying a new-fangled recipe, what do you think? Oh, please have some more, I made plenty, in fact, there is enough so I can take what’s left to the big hall meeting later tonight.”

The Moon in Capricorn mother says, “I’m tired of cooking you the same old meals every day, but tradition is tradition, so eat what I say. I am your mother (and therefore the food authority).”

The Moon in Aquarius mother standing at the door says, “I have to dash out to my book club but you can find something to eat, can’t you? There is cold pizza in the fridge.”

The Moon in Pisces mother softly says, “I have had to sacrifice to provide this meal. If you don’t eat it I will be upset” and “But, I fed you only yesterday!”

New Moon Wishing

by Alison Price

New Moon Wishing

New Moon Wishing is a ritual you can practice every month that brings the meaning of each New Moon alive for you and relates it to your life.

The next New Moon will be at a particular degree in a sign and will be in one of the twelve houses of your chart.

By making wishes at the New Moon that correlate closely to your chart you can tap into the energy of the cosmos in a specific way.

The Cycle of New Moons

There is a New Moon about every twenty-nine days and that typically makes one New Moon each Month.

Two New Moons in a Month

But, each year there may be a month with two New Moons.

For example, in August 2019 there will be two New Moons. The first New Moon is on the first of August and the second New Moon is on the thirtieth of August.

Two New Moons in a Sign

Now and then there may be a zodiac sign with two New Moons.

For example, in June 2020 there will be a New Moon at 0°21′ Cancer and then the next New Moon is at 28° 27′ Cancer in the following month of July.

In this case there are two new Moons in one sign that of Cancer the Crab.

Check in the list below and see where the next New Moon will be in the zodiac. Then find the natal house in your chart where the position of the next New Moon will occur.

Each month the New Moon will likely move to the next house of your chart but it does depend on your chart’s houses. If you have an intercepted sign it could skip one house altogether. If you have wide houses there could be two New Moon in the same house for two months in a row.

Solar Eclipses

New Moons that are also solar eclipses can be more energizing for that month’s wishing.

The New Moons of 2018

    • January 17th at 27° Capricorn
    • February 15th at 27° Aquarius – partial solar eclipse
    • March 17th at 27° Pisces
    • April 16th at 26° Aries
    • May 15th at 25° Taurus
    • June 13th at 23° Gemini
    • July 13th at 21° Cancer – partial solar eclipse
    • August 11th at 19° Leo – partial solar eclipse
    • September 9th at 17° Virgo
    • October 9th at 16° Libra
    • November 7th at 15° Scorpio
  • December 7th at 15° Sagittarius

Find the house in which the next New Moon will occur.

Make three to five wishes in line with the meaning of you New Moon house. Write them on a nice piece of paper and have these wishes ready and prepared before the New Moon.

At The New Moon

At the moment of the New Moon place a candle in your window and say your wishes out loud.

Then place the paper with your wishes on it on the windowsill underneath or next to the candle.

If possible let the candle burn a while or even overnight.

Journal

In your astrology journal note the date and the degree of the New Moon and make any notes later in that cycle if there was anything to mention. Say how and when your wishes came true.

Annual Forecasting

New Moon Wishing and the positions of each New Moon can (and should) be a part of your annual astrology predictions and year-end astrology review.

You can get all the forecast information together for yourself towards the end of each year in November or December so you are all ready for the New Year.

When you get a next year’s calendar, diary or journal that is the time to add the astrological information which really interests you.

Professional astrologers typically have whole years of forecasting material ahead so they are fully prepared.

I usually have all major transits and therefore New Moons listed for up to five years ahead. This practice is more about that I write horoscopes so far in advance for publications who need to be months and even years ahead.

You can do one month at a time to start with and perhaps one day you too will look further ahead.

Your Progressed Moon and Transiting Saturn – Special Forecast

 by Alison Price

Forecasting in astrology can be a simple Sun sign interpretations that any astrologer can do, or the more detailed and complex forecasting techniques which a professional experienced astrologer will provide. It depends on the level of understanding you wish to extract from your birth chart which route you will choose.

In astrological forecasting there are many things to consider for each chart that you look at. One of the interesting nuggets in forecasting is the relationship between your progressed Moon and transiting Saturn.

This connection deserves a second look but only in some charts. It is not always present and therefore can be dismissed as not worth bothering about. But in the few charts that this does occur, you need to fully appreciate exactly what is going on and how this dynamic situation will affect you and for how long.

If you do have this complex attribute in your chart the energy from the contact will be in play for ten to twenty years. This can overshadow other things being brought forward in the forecast data. Pee Moon and Tee Saturn can be the full story for many people and for years of their lives.

Your Secondary Progressed Moon (P-Moon)

The progressed Moon can travel up to just over three times around your chart in your lifetime. In doing so it makes all the possible aspects to all the planets and points in your chart. This speed and constant aspect contacts creates an endless variety for consideration for an astrologer.

As the progressed Moon takes +/- twenty-nine years to make one round of the chart it will therefore progress through each sign in about two years and five months (29 / 12 = 2.42y).

All things being equal and depending on the house system, the progressed Moon will spend a similar amount of time in each house .

Progressed Moon changing sign:

  • You instinctively relates to sign attributes
  • Your moods reflect the sign element changes
  • You take comfort in the new signs meanings

Progressed Moon changing house:

  • You become emotional towards the affairs of the house
  • You feel at home in the new house
  • Your habits move towards alignment with the new house

Transiting Saturn (T-Saturn)

Saturn keywords: Detract, static, pull, contract, steadfast, curtail, held-in and achieve.

Saturn Returns

Saturn moves about eleven degrees each year or, to put it another way, spends around two and a half years in each sign. Saturn takes about twenty-nine years to pass through the zodiac. You can experience up to three Saturn returns in your life.

Your Saturn returns are at approximately ages twenty-nine, fifty-eight and eighty-seven.

A Saturn return can be a one or three pass transit. The three pass transit is very important and should be accorded the correct amount of attention.

Saturn and Jupiter are very often the opposite side of a situation and, when they both bring in influence to bear, both can be negated.

Transiting Saturn by house

Saturn through the houses shows where you exert control, can achieve things and will succeed in the long run. Saturn can bring structure to chaos and create formal organization in which to work.

During a Saturn transit you will “draw the line” and maintain boundaries for yourselves. When you have a Saturn transit you may have to learn the hard way about the issues of the house.

It can be challenging when Saturn passes through some houses and you may have to tighten your belt and keep going.

Transiting Saturn by aspect

Pee Moon Tee Saturn-page-001 (1)The four major transits from Saturn are those to it’s natal position. Saturn transits can bring maturity, the ability to take responsibility and a certain acceptance of what the world has to offer. It can also be where we exist under some limitations or imposed boundaries.

Saturn is an indicator of your father, father figures or older men in authority in your life and they may become a feature under a Saturn transit.

Transiting Saturn waxing square natal Saturn

Transiting Saturn square natal Saturn at about age seven most children are in big school and in the system and have to abide by timetables and rules.

Transiting Saturn opposition natal Saturn

Saturn opposition natal Saturn at somewhere in year fourteen is an indicator for puberty and physical maturity. Some adolescents can begin a casual job in the food industry for example, and start to earn a living in the big world.

Transiting Saturn waning square natal Saturn

Transiting Saturn square natal Saturn at the closing square happens around age 21 and is the threshold for adulthood.

Saturn return

First return at 28/30 the age of maturity where you stop blaming yoru parents for your woes and take ownership for your life.

Natal aspects between the Moon and Saturn

Moon conjunct Saturn

The issues of parents Mother (Moon) and father (Saturn) are closely linked. This person goes through life with their parents showing a united front to them regardless of what is really happening.

Moon square Saturn

This person has a life where their parents may disagree on how to bring the. Hold up. There may even be a question on the paternity or the child. This person has tension about their parents that they take forward into their own lives where they become the authority and the pattern continues.

Moon opposite Saturn

This person experiences diverse views from each parent or opposite view which may develop into outright conflict between their parents. The parents will play them off against each other. This placement frequently brings confrontation and flip flopping in discipline for this child.

P.MO T.SA

Of all the planetary progressions the Moon needs close attention as the whole mood of the life shifts during the time it takes to pass through the natal chart and ingress the signs and houses. These subtle changes which happen over a two to three year period are often easier to appreciate in retrospect. As an astrologer you need to be on the lookout for this phenomenon in your chart.

Parents

The Moon (mother) and Saturn (father) can be at the root of many issues faced by people. So much so that this phenomenon (the Moon aspect Saturn lockstep) may easily dominate the whole life. Resolution is to be found in the natal placement of the Moon and Saturn and the energies need to be accepted into the life of the individual. This is likely to be challenging.

Pee Moon Tee Saturn Forecast Lockstep

Transiting Saturn takes twenty-nine years to transit the zodiac and the progressed Moon takes twenty-nine years to transits the zodiac. If there is a natal aspect between the Moon and Saturn it will be held in place by the movement of these two planets with one transiting and one progressed.

Difficult aspects (hard) are exacerbated. Although transiting Saturn will retrograde for periods and perhaps break the aspect it will reform when Saturn goes direct, is fast and reapplies the aspect.

Natal Moon aspect natal Saturn – orb

Depending on the tightness of the orb of the natal aspect between the Moon and Saturn this aspect may be in orb, by progression, for the lifetime of the individual.

Over time it will ease away but this could take many years. It depends if the aspect is applying or separating. For example if the Moon is applying an opposition to Saturn it may hold the opposition for longer than if it is already separating in the natal chart.

In the natal chart if the Moon and Saturn are in a fourth harmonic aspect that is either a conjunction, square or opposition. This needs a further look.

If the Moon and Saturn are sextile or trine it just makes it an easier relationship throughout. Only bother about the fourth harmonic aspects.

How long will it be?

Each chart is different but many people will have an aspect between the Moon and Saturn. The first thing to look at is whether there is an aspect between these two bodies.

Second is the natal aspect applying or separating? This will show how long the aspect will be in orb.  If the aspect is applying from 8 degrees then it could be applying for years and then become exact and finally separating for ten years.

This time of”being in orb” varies in each case but will still be long time.

So what?

Well for someone with the Pee Moon Tee Saturn in aspect, the energies of the two planets are connected for much if not most of their life.

It is well known that the Moon and Saturn can be many things both separately and together but when there is a link between the Moon and Saturn by aspect in the chart, it is always the parents that come together.

Moon as mother

In your chart your Moon shows how you see your mother and your experience of her.

If there are two sisters with different Moon sign this indicates their different experience of their mother even though she was the same woman they experienced her differently. This can be seen with eldest child, middle child and youngest child situations where each one has a different Moon sign.

It suggests how she nurtured you and tells how she mothered you. Was she super cuddly or a bit cold or somewhere in between? Did you get beautiful clothes to wear or your brother’s hand-me-downs? What about her cooking?

As an adult you will remember your mother’s treatment of you forever. It is where you learnt how to care and how to provide nurture for yourself and others.

Saturn as your father

Saturn in your chart shows your father and older men like uncles and grandfathers. It shows how you experienced him and his fathering.

It shows father figures and men in authority over you. These people were (and are) teachers, headmasters, the police and judges.

It shows whether you dad was there for you, or a bit distant or an absentee father.

Well placed Saturn shows how you respect authority the law and if you respect your elders or not. Do you give your seat to a senior when on the bus? Do you call old men “Sir” or does it choke in your throat. All of these things are shown by your natal Saturn.

Your transiting Saturn and progressed Moon return

Much has been written about a Saturn return. Even people outside the astrological community know of the Saturn return. But what of the progressed Moon return?

It happens around age 29/30 and can be a time for change and of going back to basics as promised in the natal chart.

Any return brings the energies of the planet back to its true meaning for you, as the planet in question returns to its natal position in your chart. At this point it remakes all the natal aspects it has that are part of your natal chart interpretation. So aspects other than to the Moon or Saturn from either will be realigned.

Once you realize that your Saturn return is around the same time as you progressed Moon return you can see how they can be different for each person.

  • There is only  one progressed Moon return in each cycle.
  • There can be one or three Saturn returns in each cycle.

Return sequences possible

  • Saturn returns before the progressed Moon return
  • Progressed Moon returns before the transiting Saturn return.
  • Saturn return one hit
  • Saturn return three hit
  • Saturn return before and after progressed Moon return.

When you realise the potential implications of a simple Moon Saturn aspect in a natal chart it opens the door for further investigation of the long term effects of this phenomena. Parental issues may not be the only thing to think about but they may be laid as a full background stage for the life of the person.

As always care should be taken when interpreting charts and all situations will ideally be related back to the whole chart for a full rounded forecast.

Review: The Book of the Moon by Steven Forrest

A book review by Alison Price

Publisher: Seven Paws Press, 321p., $24.95USD.

ISBN 978-0-9790677-4-7

Steven Forrest’s latest publication The Book Of The Moon is likely to become is a modern classic. Here is an author who actually has something new to say and he effortlessly gets his ideas across in a most engaging fashion.

A well beloved astrologer for many years Forrest appears to be a self styled Wizard, he can certainly be placed in the “Master astrologer” category where his strong teaching ethic and years of experience shine through. He urges us to take the time to look up at the night skies and discover what the classical astrologers saw.

The author expands on some of the Moon’s lesser known astrological attributes for example the parallax phenomenon (of interest to those with the natal luminaries square), declination, being out of bounds and why we use phases, to name just a few.

The void of course Moon is fully discussed and it is explained why astrologers need to appreciate all the factors pertaining to this state. He explores the history and paths taken by those who went before regarding lunar astrology.

Forrest puts forward a really good case for the eight phases of the Earth’s natural satellite and why astrologers should be incorporating them into their work.

Progressed Moon cycles and progressed lunar returns are examined. The author offers one an opportunity to consider new theories on lunar astrology. With his modern writing style he gets complex concepts over and gently leads the reader into the light of understanding.

In this publication Forrest provides much food for thought as he discusses deeper meanings with an evolutionary slant. At the same time he challenges students and experienced practitioners alike to take a wider view on the many features of the Moon. All of which he presents in an easy to read, informative book showing that there is more to lunar astrology than meets the eye.

The Book Of The Moon is modern in its approach and relevant for astrology today. This book comes highly recommended for both students and professionals alike.

Solar Eclipses in Astrology

by Alison Price

Solar Eclipses are Cool

A Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon moves in front of the Sun. The Moon blocks out the light and the heat from the Sun.

Usually the birds stop tweeting as well which is a strange thing about solar eclipses.

I first experienced the cooling effects of a solar eclipse when we lived in a town called Phalaborwa in the province of Limpopo in South Africa. This place name means The Town of Two Summers as the temperature is hot in winter and hot in summer.

Phalaborwa is situated right on the Tropic of Capricorn and experiences relentless dry heat all the time. It is a mining town and copper is the reason the settlement is there at all.

In Phalaborwa, any tree is a good tree because it is a shade tree. In the three years we lived there is rained three times for ten minutes each time. Dry, dry, dry.

The Eclipse Starts

It was about 2pm and a hot afternoon. I was ready for the solar eclipse and had the special eclipse glasses for all the kids as we sat in the garden sipping lemonade. Looking up into the clear blue sky we watched the Moon slowly creep over the face of the Sun.

Looking up into the clear blue sky we watched the Moon slowly creep over the face of the Sun.

But, that’s when I noticed the drop in temperature and the chill of the eclipse. Bearing in mind that temperatures were normally 40C at midday, suddenly it became cool and dark. Not fully night as it was a partial solar eclipse, but still enough to reduce the light to dusky levels.

Not fully night as it was a partial solar eclipse, but still enough to reduce the light to dusky levels.

Cold and gloomy the kids ran inside and were excited and anxious at the same time.

Within five minutes the Moon had moved over the disk of the Sun and again the bright light and heat came flooding back to the afternoon. And almost as sudden it felt as it had never happened.

Such is the nature of a Solar eclipse.

If you get a chance to experience a solar eclipse, like the one happening this week, pay attention to all your senses and not just sight and you will have a richer experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Tropic of Capricorn
Myself and the kids standing on the Tropic of Capricorn.

New Moon

Every month there is a New Moon which occurs in the same sign as the Sun. Each New Moon is usually in the following sign from the last one.

When the Sun is in Libra we have the Libra New Moon. When the Sun is in Scorpio it will be the Scorpio New Moon.

A New Moon is a time to sow seeds, begin things and start a new course of action. A New Moon will affect all the things shown by the area of life (house) in which it occurs in your natal chart. If you know where this is going to happen you can plan ahead.

Types of Eclipses

There are two types of eclipse, a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse.

Either type of eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly in the sky.

For a solar eclipse the sequence is: SunMoonEarth.

For a lunar eclipse the sequence is: SunEarthMoon

Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves in front of the Sun and blocks out the light. If the Moon is close enough to the Earth that its umbra (main) shadow can reach Earth it will cast a shadow across the face of the Earth, this is known as the eclipse path.

The eclipse path is usually quite thin and can be up to 170km wide crossing the face of the Earth. This width varies with each individual eclipse.

Only places on Earth on the eclipse path and in the full shadow of the Moon will experience totality.

Annular Solar Eclipse

It depends on how close the Sun is to the node whether it is a partial, total, total annular or hybrid (a bit of both) eclipse.

When the orb between the Sun and the node is less than 9 degrees it is an annular eclipse.

If the Earth is also at perihelion the Moon can fully cover the Sun’s disk and it is a total solar eclipse.

If the Moon does not fully cover the Sun’s face then it is a partial eclipse.

The Eclipse Path

Solar eclipses can only be seen during the day when the Sun is above the horizon.

An eclipse is visible from all places marked in the dark red (in the image) and can be seen as a partial eclipse in the light red areas on Earth.

It you are on the eclipse path you will see the eclipse.

When

An eclipse will occur at different times depending where on Earth you are and you can catch a glimpse of one if you are near the eclipse path.

The Astrology of Eclipses

All eclipses are not created equal. Some are simply more dynamic and have a greater potential within themselves than others. Each one has to be judged on it’s own merits.

Astrologically eclipses are both general and personal. It depends on the eclipse chart (see above) and your own birth chart and if and how they connect. Therefore some eclipses have a deeper and more profound effect than others.

General Effects of an Eclipse

  • This eclipse will be in a sign and the ruler(s) of the sign will have influence over the eclipse.
  • If it is an eclipse at the Moon’s north node it indicates that we are focussing on future things and drawing in people, goods and experiences to ourselves.
  • If it is at the Moon south node it suggests that we are letting go of people, stuff and emotional baggage.
  • The Sun and Moon may be conjoined a planet which inclines towards discussing the issues brought about at the eclipse and the meaning of the planet.

Personal Effects of an Eclipse

  • Whichever house the eclipse occurs in your natal chart will be the area of life that will be affected. For example in your first house your looks, seventh house your romance, partner, relationship or in your tenth house your career and goal setting.
  • If it is your birthday on the eclipse day you will feel the most effect from the eclipse.
  • If your Ascendant is on the eclipse degree the effects of this eclipse will be impressive and there may be a huge change for your life, your personality and how other see you.
  • If you have any planets in your natal chart at the eclipse degree they will be stimulated by the eclipse.

How Long an Eclipse Lasts

The actual eclipse lasts about one hour but the effects of the eclipse are usually for around six months.

If a particular eclipse connects with your chart by any of the ways mentioned above it will have an effect on you for about six months and again this depends on how close the eclipse falls to your chart planets and points (Ascendant, MC, nodes, Vertex or Part of Fortune).

There are specific timing strategies that astrologers use which can change this six-month rule of thumb but you would have to consult with myself or your astrologer to fully determine how each eclipse in the next year or so will affect you directly.

Eclipse Seasons

Every six months the Sun draws near one of the lunar nodes and we have eclipses. Sometimes only two and on occasion three. It depends on how close the Sun is to the nodes in degrees. The closer the orb the more likely eclipse.

Solar Eclipse

Eclipses at the New Moon are always solar.

Solar eclipses impart a masculine or yang feel. This means it is an active eclipse where you can get started on your intentions right away.

North Node

This eclipse is at the north node which suggests the future. That is, your future can be supported based on intentions begun now.

Happy birthday

If it is your birthday on a solar eclipse day you will feel that particular eclipse intensely. This is because it forms part of your Solar Return chart whose energies are in place for the next twelve months.

Eclipse conjunct a natal planet

Now and then an eclipse will be right on the degree of a natal planet, ascendant or MC in your chart. Obviously, this doesn’t happen often but when it does you need to pay attention.

An astrologer can quickly tell when this will happen for you.

New Moon

by Alison Price

When two planets form an exact conjunction it heralds the start of their cycle. When those two planets are the Sun and Moon it is the New Moon.

The New Moon is the first of the eight lunar phase and it is the beginning of the Sun Moon cycle as both celestial bodies are at the same place in the zodiac.

The Sun/Moon synodic cycle is a “meeting” of the two planets.

The Moon travels around the Earth through the tropical zodiac and it takes around twenty-nine and a half days for the Moon to catch up with the Sun. Each year there will be thirteen New Moons so one month in any given year will have two New Moons.

From the New Moon until the Full Moon in a fortnight we experience the waxing half of the month. The Moon is becoming bigger in the sky each day. It is a time to focus on things that require growth.

New Moons are known as seed moments during the month. They are times to literally plant seeds for your future. Things germinate in the dark of a New Moon.

Every month (well almost) the New Moon happens in a different sign as the Sun moves through the zodiac. The type of things you can “sow” are shown by the house in your chart in which the New Moon occurs.

Night

On the night before, the night of and the night after a New Moon the Moon cannot be seen. These are the dark nights of the month.

Naturally nocturnal animals are less active at this time. When the light again begins to be reflected by the growing crescent Moon the night time creatures go back about their business.

Planting

Those of you into gardening can take note of planting seeds at the New Moon for optimum growth and fruition. Farmers do this as a matter of course.

Tides

We experience high tides at the time of the New Moon as both the Sun and the Moon exert gravity from the same position on the seas and oceans of the Earth.

Taking this one step further (and as the human body is largely water) it follows that the New Moon gravity will affect us as well.

The Moon provides us with the shortest of the planetary cycles.

It may sometimes go unnoticed by us.

Maybe this is the month to pay attention.

You can try some New Moon wishing and get in closer contact with the cycles of the Moon.

The Lunar Nodes

by Alison Price

The Nodes

The nodes are points in space where the Moon’s path crosses the ecliptic. Every month the Moon spends two weeks north and two weeks south of the ecliptic.

The nodes are always opposite each other and are referred to as the nodal axis. A node is a hub or connector.

Mean and True

The mean (average) nodes are always retrograde whereas true nodes can be direct, stationary or retrograde. It takes just under nineteen years for the nodal axis to pass through the whole zodiac as each node spends about eighteen / nineteen months in every sign.

Eclipses can only occur near a node.

When interpreting the nodes we take notice of the dispositors, which are the planets that rule the signs in which the nodes are placed.

North node

The north node is known as Caput Draconis or the Dragon’s head. It has much to do with the future, where you are going and your karmic path.

The north node transiting a new sign changes the thrust or the connections in line with the meanings of the signs.

South node

The south node is known as Cauda Draconis or the Dragon’s tail.

The south node says much about the past and where we are coming from. It can also show our default responses and suggest where growth is retarded. It indicates where we can perform on autopilot and shows instinctive knowledge brought with us from past incarnations.

As the nodes are created from the Moon’s path it follows that when a node moves into the Moon’s signs of strength or Cancer (rulership) or exaltation (Taurus) that particular node, and its meaning, does fare better.

Astro-Dating in 30 Days

Love at First Sight

You have probably heard of love at first sight but maybe not really believed in it. How could two people possibly know immediately if they have found the one?

Surely you need to to get to know each other first, explore experiences together, have long sunset walks on the beach and picnic in a spring meadow?

Yet as an astrologer working with relationships I come across couples who did, in fact, know at the point of meeting and within four weeks were committed to each other and that was ten years ago.

If you speak those people who do have long-term relationships, common-law or marriage, you will find a lot of people knew it the first few weeks of meeting. How can this be?

Your Own Chart

Your astrology chart is the map for your life. It shows your potentials, energies and interests. It suggests talents and what needs to be explored in this lifetime. When you live in line with the energies in your chart 9as shown in the planets by house, sign and aspect) you feel satisfied with life. It becomes that enough is plenty and there is nothing more you need to be fulfilled.

The Moon takes about twenty-nine days to make a full pass through the zodiac. In any month it will transit all the houses of your chart. One house after the next, illuminating each area of life shown by the house, its ruler and tenants.

The Moon is like a quick tour of the chart and everything is triggered each month. In one single lunar cycle the Moon will form all possible aspects to the planets in your natal chart.

Every planet will receive a conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition etc. from the Moon. This lunar transit explores all the emotional possibilities you have as your natal promise.

The First Contact Chart

The first contact chart is an astrology chart drawn up of your first date or meeting. The potentials of the relationship are built into this chart. As the Moon sweeps round every one of the first contact’s chart potentials are stimulated.

By the end of one lunar cycle you know all there is to know. Maybe in a broad stroke but time will fill in the stitches of the tapestry.

One lunar cycle

In one lunar month you will know whether to spend the rest of your life together or call it a day. When the Moon goes around your chart it makes all the aspects and passes through every house in your chart. As it does to your romantic other’s chart too.

If the relationship is going to work you will know within one lunar month. By this stage you will be discussing important issues as adults: religion, children, politics and exchanging copies of your credit reports.

Or maybe not, and if not, what are you still doing there? Don’t waste time on a relationship that is going nowhere.

“We can always find more money but we can’t find more time.”

Look to your natal Saturn for clues on your time wasting. Your boundaries that are there to protect you and bring Saturn to task. Learn to draw the line on dead-end relationships. I’m not saying toss every person you meet on the heap never to be spoken to again.

Put them in their correct pigeon-holes such as friend, colleague or nice-to-know-in-an-emergency. Do not have them standing in the spot marked “Love of my life” taking up valuable real estate which is better occupied by your true soul mate.

Addictive Behaviour – Don’t get Sucked In

You may think it better to have someone than no one. Sometimes having a hanger-on is simply a habit.

Being in a relationship that is not satisfying drains the soul. It leaves you bereft of energy to move on.

Habits are simply that, habits.

Break free.

Be kind to yourself

  • Don’t waste your time, energy and your precious youth on pointless relationships.
  • It does not serve you to allow yourself to be treated this way.
  • Don’t spend another minute in a dead end partnership.
  • In your heart of hearts can you hear a little voice? Whispering “run!
  • Free yourself up to be open to new people.
  • Allow serendipity to do its job.
  • Make space in your life for a good mate.
  • Be open to accepting new and exciting potential partners.
  • Let the Law of Attraction work for you.

New Moon and the Part of Fortune

by Alison Price

New Moon

When the Part of Fortune is on the ascendant it means it is New Moon.

Actually it is because it is New Moon the Part of Fortune will be on the ascendant.

A New Moon is potent because it is the seed moment in the Sun / Moon positions and the beginning point of the lunar cycle. All things are possible now as the month unfolds.

Part of Fortune

Normally the Part of Fortune indicates through which realm of activities you will benefit and this is shown by its house position.

If the Part of Fortune is on an angle it becomes prominent and when conjoined the ascendant it has top billing in the chart.

The only other better place for the Part of Fortune to be is conjunct the Sun and Moon and on the ascendant.

Part of Fortune on the ascendant

The Part of Fortune on the ascendant colors your whole chart. Admittedly it is not a planet but a point in space. However when placed on the sensitive ascendant the emphasis for the Part of Fortune increases. It gains prominence.

In the first house the Part of Fortune is well placed to benefit you throughout your life. You come across as simply fortunate and appear to have a good life even a desirable one.

You are likely to have personal looks that are deemed attractive in your era. You will be perceived as a classic beauty for women and considered handsome for men.

You are seen by others to be well off and to be from a good background. Others perceive you as fortunate and bestow grace and favors on you. It can become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

All this is interpreted by the backdrop of the sign in which the Part of Fortune is placed. The planet that rules the sign in which the Part of Fortune is placed is known as the dispositor or the Lord of the Part of Fortune and is an important planet to consider for this analysis.

If the ascendant sign and the Part of Fortune sign are the same then that planet gains influence over the fortune being given over this lifetime.

Part of Fortune calculations

The position of the Moon in relation to the Sun determines the placement for the Part of Fortune.

Daytime chart formula is ASC – SU + MO = POF

Nighttime chart formula is ASC + SU – MO = POF

A daytime chart is one where the Sun is in the seventh to the twelfth houses. A nighttime chart finds the Sun is in the first to the sixth houses.
