New Moon in Pisces

Musings

As we cycle through the astrological year, planets change signs, move forwards, move backwards and create different patterns and clusters within the Zodiac. Now frequently they are just plonked about the chart willy nilly, but for the New Moon in February, we have a cluster of planets in Pisces. Today I’m particularly focusing on the New Moon in Pisces on February the 27th and have shown the chart for this set for Vancouver. And you will also notice that this is a bowl chart once more underlining the concentration vibe of this chart where all the planets are in within (less than) an opposition between Pluto and Mars. Although it’s not an opposition per se, it’s less than it’s an even tighter grouping in the bowl.

Pisces in My Life

Family

Personally, I don’t often come across Pisces people as friends, or clients, because their Sun is quincunx to my Sun. So there is always a slightly, dare I say irritating, energy between their Pisces Sun and my Leo Sun. However, my family had different ideas.

In my household, both my mother and my father were Sun Pisces with birthdays on the 18th and 19th of March respectively. Additionally, my one and only sister is also a Pisces, born on February 26th. And one of my three daughters is a Pisces too and her birthday is on March the 5th.

This just makes Pisces one of those signs that I tend to know quite a bit about because I’ve seen these people in action, close up and personal. And let me tell you, a lot of what goes on happens at the shoe shop. I thought it would be thought-provoking this week to discuss this high concentration of five planets, plus one point, in Pisces, which will really only happen for a swift day or two as the Moon transits the sign of the Fish.

A New Beginning

Mystical Waters

The New Moon on February 27, 2025, occurs at 9° Pisces, ushering in a fresh lunar cycle infused with intuition, dreams and emotional depth. While New Moons happen every month, marking a time of renewal and setting New Moon Wishing, this particular lunation is uniquely powerful due to an extraordinary planetary alignment in the sign of Pisces.

A Concentration of Pisces Energy

In astrology, we track the movement of ten celestial bodies, from the Sun to Pluto and sometimes include Chiron, a minor planet associated with healing. During this New Moon, a remarkable five of these planets will be in Pisces, making this a significant cosmic event. Pisces is the final sign of the Zodiac, symbolizing completion, surrender and spiritual awakening. When a cluster of planets gathers in one sign, their combined influence amplifies that sign’s themes. In this case, the watery, mutable and deeply intuitive nature of Pisces is emphasized, creating an atmosphere rich with creativity, mysticism and emotional sensitivity.

The Five Planets in Pisces

Quintet

At the moment of this New Moon, the following planets will be transiting Pisces:

  • The Sun: Illuminating Pisces’ themes of imagination, spirituality and compassion.
  • The Moon: Aligning our emotions with Piscean energies, enhancing intuition and inner reflection.
  • Saturn: Bringing a structured or karmic element to this otherwise fluid and dreamy sign.
  • Mercury: Encouraging intuitive communication and deep inner thinking.
  • Neptune: The ruler of Pisces, heightening dreams, visions and spiritual awareness.

Concentration

This concentration of planetary energy in Pisces makes this an ideal time for creative pursuits, meditation, healing and emotional introspection. However, it can also bring sharp sensitivity, blurred boundaries and potential confusion, so grounding practices will be beneficial.

The North Node and Upcoming Eclipse

Eclipse

Adding another layer of significance, the North Node will be at 27° Pisces, aligning with this lunation in preparation for an upcoming Aries eclipse in March. The North Node represents destiny and soul growth, suggesting that this New Moon may set the stage for important shifts in collective consciousness and personal spiritual development. With such an intense Pisces influence, this period encourages us to trust our intuition, embrace our dreams and flow with the cosmic currents rather than resisting them.

Pisces Tenants

Let’s take a closer look at this concentration of Piscean energy.

The Sun in Pisces

Intuition

When the Sun is in Pisces, people are deeply intuitive, imaginative and compassionate. Pisces is a water sign ruled by Neptune, giving these people a dreamy, artistic and often mystical quality. They have a natural affinity for the spiritual, the unseen and the emotional depths of life.

Empathetic

People with the Sun in Pisces are empathetic and tend to absorb the energy of those around them, this makes them sensitive to their environment. They often have a strong creative streak, excelling in music, poetry, art and storytelling. However, their emotional depth can sometimes make them prone to escapism, as they seek refuge in fantasies, daydreams, ghosting or even unhealthy habits.

Spiritual

At their best, they are healers, visionaries and artists who bring beauty and compassion to the world. Sun in Pisces people’s challenge is to set healthy boundaries and stay grounded while embracing their deep emotional and spiritual nature.

The Moon in Pisces

Sensitivity

The Moon represents emotions, instincts and inner needs and when placed in Pisces, it enhances sensitivity, intuition and emotional depth. People with this placement feel everything on a profound level and may have psychic or intuitive abilities.

Absorbing

Their emotions are fluid, often changing like the tides and they can easily pick up on the moods of others. This makes Moon in Pisces people highly compassionate and nurturing but also they cab be susceptible to emotional overwhelm. Lunar Pisceans may need alone time to recharge, as they can absorb too much from their surroundings.

Meditation

This placement is excellent for artistic expression, as they channel their emotions into music, poetry, painting, or other creative outlets. However, Lunar Fish folk must be mindful of avoiding escapism through substances, fantasy, or emotional withdrawal. Meditation, spiritual practices and grounding techniques are likely to help them maintain emotional balance.

Saturn in Pisces

Reality vs Imagination

Saturn represents structure, discipline and responsibility, when Saturn is in Pisces is a dreamy and fluid sign. This combination brings a lesson in balancing reality with imagination. People with Saturn in Pisces may struggle with self-doubt, fears of the unknown, or feeling disconnected from reality.

The Call to Serve

This placement often leads to a deep sense of responsibility toward spiritual, artistic, or healing pursuits. These people may feel a strong duty to serve others, but they perhaps need to learn to set boundaries to avoid becoming easily overwhelmed. They might also experience challenges in trusting their intuition or in clearly defining their personal and professional goals.

Practical Spirituality

Over time, Saturn in Pisces teaches the importance of structure within creativity and spirituality. When mastered, this placement allows for disciplined artistic expression, practical spirituality and their ability to bring their dreams into reality in a tangible way.

Mercury in Pisces

Abstract Thoughts

Mercury governs communication, thinking and perception and while it is Pisces it is intuitive, imaginative and dreamy. People with Mercury in Pisces think in patterns, symbols, emotions and abstract concepts rather than rigid logic. Their communication style is poetic, expressive and often deeply emotional.

Storytelling and Fairy Tales

Mercurial Pisceans may be excellent storytellers, musicians, or visual artists, as they can convey deep emotions through their chosen medium. Yet, their thought processes can sometimes be scattered and they may struggle with the details or analytical tasks.  They tend to rely on gut feelings rather than logic, which can make decision-making perplexing.

Spiritual Messages

Mercury in Pisces people thrive in creative and spiritual fields but may need to work on grounding their thoughts and being clear in communication, as they can sometimes be vague, confused or misunderstood. Writing, journaling and meditation will most likely help to bring them clarity to their thoughts.

Neptune in Pisces

Dignified

Neptune is the modern ruling planet of Pisces (Jupiter is the traditional ruler) and when it is in its home sign, its influence is super strong. This placement enhances intuition, spirituality, creativity and compassion on a collective level.

What Goes Unsaid

People born with Neptune in Pisces are deeply connected to the mystical and unseen realms. They may have natural psychic abilities, clairvoyance or a strong interest in spiritual practices like meditation, crystal ball reading, or energy healing. Their imagination is vast, making them gifted artists, musicians and visionaries.

Seek Grounding

However, the placement of Neptune in Pisces also brings trials surrounding illusions, deception and escapism. It can blur the lines between reality and fantasy, making it easy to become lost in daydreams or unhealthy habits. Developing discernment and grounding practices is crucial for those with Neptune in Pisces.

Collective Healing

On a global scale, Neptune in Pisces influences artistic and spiritual awakenings, inspiring movements focused on compassion, unity and collective healing.

Overarch

It’s not every month that we come across a group of planets which is almost half of the plants available in one sign, but when you do it does add an overarching theme to the period.

New Moon Wishing

New Moon Wishing

New Moon Wishing

Every Month

New Moon Wishing is a ritual you can practice every month that brings the meaning of each New Moon alive for you and relates it to your life.

The next New Moon will be at a particular degree in a sign and will be in one of the twelve houses of your chart.

By making wishes at the New Moon that correlate closely to your chart you can tap into the energy of the cosmos in a specific way.

The Cycle of New Moons

There is a New Moon about every twenty-nine days and that typically makes one New Moon each Month.

Two New Moons in a Month

But, each year there may be a month with two New Moons.

For example, back in August 2019 there were two New Moons. The first New Moon is on the first of August and the second New Moon is on the thirtieth of August.

Two New Moons in a Sign

Now and then there may be a zodiac sign with two New Moons.

Aries 2023

For example, in 2023 there were two new Moons in one sign that of Aries the Ram.

Check and see where the next New Moon will be in the zodiac. Then find the natal house in your chart where the position of the next New Moon will occur.

Each month the New Moon will likely move to the next house of your chart but it does depend on your chart’s houses.

If you have an intercepted sign it could skip one house altogether. If you have wide houses there could be two New Moon in the same house for two months in a row.

Solar Eclipses

New Moons that are also solar eclipses can be more energizing for that month’s wishing.

Your Natal Houses

Find the house in which the next New Moon will occur.

Make three to five wishes in line with the meaning of you New Moon house.

Write them on a nice piece of paper and have these wishes ready and prepared before the New Moon.

Suggested New Moon Wishes

Here are some suggested wishes for a New Moon in your natal chart houses. You can add more wishes and modify the ones you like.

Let your inspiration guide you.

At The New Moon

At the moment of the New Moon place a candle in your window and say your wishes out loud. Then place the paper with your wishes on it on the windowsill underneath or next to the candle. If possible let the candle burn a while or even overnight.

Your Astrology Journal

In your astrology journal note the date and the degree of the New Moon and make any notes later in that cycle if there was anything to mention.

Say how and when your wishes came true.

New Moon Annual Forecasting

New Moon Wishing and the positions of each New Moon can (and should) be a part of your annual astrology predictions and year-end astrology review.

You can get all the forecast information together for yourself towards the end of each year in November or December so you are all ready for the New Year.

Next Year

When you get a next year’s calendar, diary or journal that is the time to add the astrological information which really interests you.

Professional astrologers typically have whole years of forecasting material ahead so they are fully prepared.

I usually have all major transits and therefore New Moons listed for up to five years ahead.

This practice is more about that I write horoscopes so far in advance for publications who need to be months and even years ahead.

You can do one month at a time to start with and perhaps one day you too will look further ahead.

Solar Eclipses in Astrology

Solar Eclipses in Astrology

Solar Eclipses are Cool

A Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon moves in front of the Sun. The Moon blocks out the light and the heat from the Sun. Usually the birds stop tweeting as well which is a strange thing about solar eclipses.

Eclipse Conversations from our Podcast

For more inspiration on your eclipse journey, Alison and Arwynne have listed all their eclipses podcast episode as they are published.

My Solar Eclipse Story

I first experienced the cooling effects of a solar eclipse when we lived in a town called Phalaborwa in the province of Limpopo in South Africa.

This place name means The Town of Two Summers as the temperature is hot in winter and hot in summer.

Phalaborwa is situated right on the Tropic of Capricorn and experiences relentless dry heat all the time.

It is a mining town and copper is the reason the settlement is there at all.

In Phalaborwa, any tree is a good tree because it is a shade tree.

In the three years we lived there is rained three times for ten minutes each time.

Dry, dry, dry.

The Eclipse Starts

It was about 2pm and a hot afternoon.

I was ready for the solar eclipse and had the special eclipse glasses for all the kids as we sat in the garden sipping lemonade.

Looking up into the clear blue sky we watched the Moon slowly creep over the face of the Sun.

But, that’s when I noticed the drop in temperature and the chill of the eclipse.

Bearing in mind that temperatures were normally 40C at midday, suddenly it became cool and dark.

Not fully night as it was a partial solar eclipse, but still enough to reduce the light to dusky levels.

Cold and gloomy the kids ran inside and were excited and anxious at the same time.

Within five minutes, the Moon had moved over the disk of the Sun and again the bright light and heat came flooding back to the afternoon.

Almost as suddenly it felt as it had never happened.

Such is the nature of a Solar eclipse.

If you get a chance to experience a solar eclipse, pay attention to all your senses and not just sight and you will have a richer eclipse experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

New Moon

Every month there is a New Moon which occurs in the same sign as the Sun. Each New Moon is usually in the following sign from the last one. When the Sun is in Libra we have the Libra New Moon. When the Sun is in Scorpio it will be the Scorpio New Moon.

A New Moon is a time to sow seeds, begin things and start a new course of action. A New Moon will affect all the things shown by the area of life (house) in which it occurs in your natal chart.

If you know where this is going to happen you can plan ahead.

Types of Eclipses

There are two types of eclipse, a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse.

Either type of eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly in the sky.

For a solar eclipse the sequence is: SunMoonEarth.

For a lunar eclipse the sequence is: SunEarthMoon

Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves in front of the Sun and blocks out the light.

If the Moon is close enough to the Earth that its umbra (main) shadow can reach Earth it will cast a shadow across the face of the Earth, this is known as the eclipse path.

The eclipse path is usually quite thin and can be up to 170km wide crossing the face of the Earth.

This width varies with each individual eclipse.

Only places on Earth on the eclipse path and in the full shadow of the Moon will experience totality.

Solar eclipse October 22, 2014

Annular Solar Eclipse

It depends on how close the Sun is to the node whether it is a partial, total, total annular or hybrid (a bit of both) eclipse.

When the orb between the Sun and the node is less than 9 degrees it is an annular eclipse.

If the Earth is also at perihelion the Moon can fully cover the Sun’s disk and it is a total solar eclipse.

If the Moon does not fully cover the Sun’s face then it is a partial eclipse.

The Eclipse Path

Solar eclipses can only be seen during the day when the Sun is above the horizon.

An eclipse is visible from all places where the Moon’s shadow crosses the face of the Earth.

It you are on the eclipse path you will see the eclipse.

When

An eclipse will occur at different times depending where on Earth you are and you can catch a glimpse of one if you are near the eclipse path.

The Astrology of Eclipses

All eclipses are not created equal. Some are simply more dynamic and have a greater potential within themselves than others.

Each one has to be judged on its own merits.

Astrologically eclipses are both general and personal.

It depends on the eclipse chart (see above) and your own birth chart and if and how they connect.

Therefore some eclipses have a deeper and more profound effect than others.

General Effects of an Eclipse

  • This eclipse will be in a sign and the ruler(s) of the sign will have influence over the eclipse.
  • If it is an eclipse at the Moon’s north node it indicates that we are focussing on future things and drawing in people, goods and experiences to ourselves.
  • If it is at the Moon south node it suggests that we are letting go of people, stuff and emotional baggage.
  • The Sun and Moon may be conjoined a planet which inclines towards discussing the issues brought about at the eclipse and the meaning of the planet.

Personal Effects of an Eclipse

  • Whichever house the eclipse occurs in your natal chart will be the area of life that will be affected. For example in your first house your looks, seventh house your romance, partner, relationship or in your tenth house your career and goal setting.
  • If it is your birthday on the eclipse day you will feel the most effect from the eclipse.
  • If your Ascendant is on the eclipse degree the effects of this eclipse will be impressive and there may be a huge change for your life, your personality and how other see you.
  • If you have any planets in your natal chart at the eclipse degree they will be stimulated by the eclipse.

Read more >>> Upcoming Eclipses

How Long an Eclipse Lasts

The actual eclipse lasts about one hour but the effects of the eclipse are usually for around six months.

If a particular eclipse connects with your chart by any of the ways mentioned above it will have an effect on you for about six months.

This depends on how close the eclipse falls to your chart planets and points (Ascendant, MC, nodes, Vertex or Part of Fortune).

There are specific timing strategies that astrologers use which can change this six-month pattern.

You would have to consult with myself or your astrologer to fully determine how each eclipse in the next year or so will affect you directly.

Eclipse Seasons

Every six months the Sun draws near one of the lunar nodes and we have eclipses.

Sometimes only two and on occasion three.

It depends on how close the Sun is to the nodes in degrees.

The closer the orb the more likely eclipse.

Solar Eclipse

Eclipses at the New Moon are always solar.

Solar eclipses impart a masculine or yang feel.

This means it is an active eclipse where you can get started on your intentions right away.

North Node Eclipse

Eclipses is at the north node suggest the future is improtant.

Your future can be supported based on intentions begun now.

South Node Eclipse

Eclipses at the south node suggest the past is important.

Your past may be influencing your present situation through memories, people or events.

Happy Birthday

If your birthday is on a solar eclipse day, you will feel that particular eclipse intensely because it forms part of your Solar Return chart whose celestial energies are in place for you for the next twelve months.

Eclipse conjunct a natal planet

Now and then an eclipse will be right on the degree of a natal planet, ascendant or MC in your chart.

Obviously, this doesn’t happen often but when it does you need to pay attention.

An astrologer can quickly tell when this will happen for you.

New Moon

The New Moon

New Moon Cycle

When two planets form an exact conjunction it heralds the start of their cycle. When those two planets are the Sun and Moon it is the New Moon.

The New is the first of the eight lunar phase and it is the beginning of the Sun Moon cycle as both celestial bodies are at the same place in the zodiac.

The Sun/Moon synodic cycle is a “meeting” of the two planets.

The Moon travels around the Earth through the tropical zodiac and it takes around twenty-nine and a half days for the Moon to catch up with the Sun. Each year there will be thirteen New Moons so one month in any given year will have two New Moons.

From the New until the Full Moon in a fortnight we experience the waxing half of the month. The Moon is becoming bigger in the sky each day. It is a time to focus on things that require growth.

Seed Moments

These special moments are known as seed moments during the month. They are times to literally plant seeds for your future. Things germinate in the dark of a New Moon.

Every month (well almost) the new cycle happens in a different sign as the Sun moves through the zodiac. The type of things you can “sow” are shown by the house in your chart in which the New Moon occurs.

Dark Night

On the night before, the night of and the night after a New Moon the Moon cannot be seen. These are the dark nights of the month.

Naturally nocturnal animals are less active at this time. When the light again begins to be reflected by the growing crescent Moon the night time creatures go back about their business.

Planting by The New Moon

Those of you into gardening can take note of planting seeds at the dar part of the lunar cycle for optimum growth and fruition. Farmers do this as a matter of course.

Tides

We experience high tides as both the Sun and the Moon exert gravity from the same position on the seas and oceans of the Earth.

Taking this one step further (and as the human body is largely water) it follows that the cycle beginning gravity will affect us as well.

The Moon provides us with the shortest of the planetary cycles.

It may sometimes go unnoticed by us.

Maybe this is the month to pay attention.
