Supporting your journey to becoming a professional astrologer.
The handbook to the Starzology Beginner Astrologer’s Course .
A Little Astrology
Every year more and more people from all walks of life turn to astrology for answers to questions in their lives.
Many individuals want to learn astrology, although they have no plan to be a full time, or even a part-time, astrologer. Many people want to know for their own pleasure.
This is the handbook that compliments the Starzology Beginner Astrologer’s Course available One-on-One with Alison.
Use it as a guide to the intricacies of an astrology chart. This is book one of three and the other books in this series are;
The Intermediate Astrologer’s Course Handbook (available soon)
The Advanced Astrologer’s Course Handbook (available soon).
This book will guide you to focus on key pointers in a birth chart, so you can get to read a chart quickly and confidently.
The Benefits of Astrology
To understand how knowing some astrology benefits you.
It is a little like knowing something about body language.
For example, if someone has their arms folded, it is a powerful signal that they are not open to what you have to say.
This is basic stuff, but great information that you can use every time you speak to someone who has already shut you out because you now can do something else or approach them differently to reach them in other ways.
I see astrology like this.
With a little astrology knowledge, you can connect with people in a better way through the understanding of their core personality, characteristics and behaviors as shown through their birth chart.
Your life was mapped out with core characteristics from the day you were born. The knack is knowing how to read a birth chart.
Who this book is for
This book is for you if you are at the start of your astrological journey.
It is for anyone who wants to get to grips with astrology fast, and someone who does not have time to waste on the tons of details in astrology.
Learn about the importance of staying on the high roads and leaving the back roads and windy paths for another day.
You can spend the rest of your life learning more and more about astrology, but you do not need to know everything right now.
You are at the start of your astrological journey, and this book will guide you towards what is immediately important and what can be left for another day.
If you have reached a period in your life when time is critical, and you do not have three years to spend learning something new, then this book is for you.
I use a lot of Astro Art in my astrology practice, and I want to share it with you.
This book is rich in chart imagery with simple visuals that have a powerful message.
You can see some of the Astro Art that I share on my Instagram “Starzology” feed as well.
There is only so much time and energy that I have already put into this work.
There are two semesters of eight chapters each.
The two semesters comprise the full Level 1 work for the Starzology Academy of Astrology and these chapters are considered first-year astrology learning.
Additionally, and to help you grow as an astrologer, you are expected to do sixteen hours of independent study for each semester.
Aspiring Astrologer Activities
The Aspiring Astrology activities are after each chapter. These are like your homework and can be related to every chart that you do from now on into the future.
Perhaps you already know your Sun sign. It could be Aries, Cancer or Virgo etc. Your Sun sign depends on the date of your birthday. It is the zodiac sign which the Sun was in at the time and day you were born.
Everyone’s Sun sign is the easiest thing to know in astrology.
You will know your own, and your family’s birthdates, and probably your close friend’s birthdays as well. It is a simple step to ascertain everybody’s Sun sign.
The Sun sign is the first nugget of information that all people know about astrology but, after that, what should you learn next?
The second thing you need to learn is your Ascendant sign. This is likely to be different to your Sun sign although it could be the identical.
You will only know your Ascendant sign if you cast your chart.
The third fact you need to discover is your Moon sign. Again, you will have to cast your chart to find this out.
Your Moon sign is likely to be in a different sign both to your Sun sign and even to your Ascendant sign, but it could be the same.
Where to Get Your Birth Chart
If you do not yet have a copy of your birth chart, there are three pieces of information that you will need.
Your birth time
Your birth date
Your birth place (the city and country)
For quick information go here to calculate your chart.
Alternatively, if you want your full birth chart one page diagram calculated by me as a PDF go here.
The Holy Trinity
These three pieces of astrological information, your Ascendant sign, your Sun sign, and your Moon sign, are known as the holy trinity, the triad or the triumvirate of your chart.
They are always listed in this order of importance; Ascendant, Sun, Moon (and yes, your ascendant is more important than your Sun).
If you are an aspiring astrologer, and if you attend an astrology conference, you will be given a badge with your name. There will be a space for you to write the three main parts of your chart listed on it, your Ascendant, your Sun, and your Moon.
For example, my top three or Holy Trinity would be listed as; Leo, Leo, Scorpio. This is because my Ascendant is in Leo, my Sun is in Leo, and my Moon is in Scorpio.
Your Ascendant, Sun, and Moon can each be in any one of the twelve zodiac signs.
Let us have a quick look at the numbers.
The Ascendant has the possibility of being in any one of the twelve signs, the Sun has the possibility of being in any one of the twelve signs, and the Moon has the possibility of being in any one of the twelve signs.
Therefore, 12 × 12 × 12 = 1728 possible combinations of Ascendant, Sun, and Moon.
This detail is huge and speaks to the complexities that can be found within an astrology chart, but there is a simpler way.
In astrology there are two polarities active and passive. They can also be referred to as masculine or feminine, or positive (+) or negative (-).
The twelve zodiac signs are either in one polarity or the other.
The active signs are; Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius. The passive signs are; Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.
Let’s look at some examples of polarity.
If you have your Ascendant in Aries, your Sun in Virgo and your Moon in Pisces your polarity converts to: active, passive, passive or (+, -, -).
If you have an Aquarius ascendant (+), your Sun is in Gemini (+), and your Moon is in Libra (+), you are active (+, +, +).
In the scenario of active and passive signs, as regards to your chart’s holy trinity, there are only eight possible combinations.
The three are always listed in the sequence; Ascendant, Sun, Moon.
The ratio is always active:passive (+ : – ).
+ + + 3:0 100% active
+ + – 2:1 More active than passive.
+ – + 2:1 More active than passive.
– + + 2:1 More active than passive.
– – + 1:2 More passive than active.
– + – 1:2 More passive than active.
+ – – 1:2 More passive than active.
– – – 0:3 100% passive.
Some More Examples
Ascendant Sun Moon
Libra Gemini Pisces + + –
Aquarius Sagittarius Virgo + + –
Leo Aries Taurus + + –
They are 216 possible combinations that are active, active, passive (+, +, -). But only eight possible combinations.
The use of polarity in the holy trinity of your chart is way to simplify what is a complex subject, astrology.
Spend some time analyzing your family’s and friends charts to see polarity at work.
Of course, there are many more interesting things about astrology charts that you could learn.
Aspiring Astrologer Activity
I love providing you with aspiring astrologer activities.
This initiative is similar to “next steps” and the activities give you some ideas on what to do with the information you have just gathered.
Step one: Your Sun sign.
Step two: Your Ascendant sign.
Step three: Your Moon sign.
Step four: Write your polarity combination (Ascendant, Sun, Moon).
This wheel is made up of twelve “slices” just like the slices of a pizza. Each slice is 30° wide and therefore is exactly one zodiac sign.
Get Your Downloadable Template
Here is your template so you can make your own astrology wheel of fortune. You can download the PDF file below (which is the recommended way to go as it is easier to print), and use it later.
There is a modest fee of US$1.00 to support us.
How to Construct Your Wheel
Print 12 sheets, so that’s one page for each sign.
Add your own keywords and notes to each sign.
Colour in as much as you like.
Cut the slice out leaving the tab on.
Carefully layout all the signs in the right order.
The signs in order anticlockwise are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
Tape the slices lightly at the front with small pieces of masking tape just to hold it.
Turn it over and magic tape the slices together.
Note: Take your time as the slices can be tricky.
When completed glue the whole wheel onto a sheet of cardboard or Bristol board for support.
Cut with scissors and trim to 5mm to the edge of the circle.
Hang the finished astrology wheel by a centre pin so that it can rotate, because you read each sign when it is at the bottom and the signs can be read from all around.
How to Use the Wheel of Fortune
You should place your wheel on the wall near your desk and where you do your astrology work. In this way, it becomes as inspiration and a memory jogger for when you forget things.
Remember to send me a photo of your completed wheel and I will publish it on this post later.
There is no time limit.
Enjoy being creative and learning at the same time.
Keywords to Use
Many astrology keywords are well known and you should add these to your wheel.
When you discover a new word to describe the signs you can add them to your wheel. This is how you interpret astrology and not how I do, or the next guy does.
Be your own astrologer and develop the art so that it speaks to you.
Why stray from the true and tested keywords? Because we want to hear your voice coming through in your interpretations.
If you ask ten artists to paint a picture of an apple they will all produce a painting that represents an apple. Maybe Picasso’s apple is a bit odd but it is still an apple how he sees it.
It is the same with astrology. Every astrologer can read a chart, but each one brings their own flair to the reading. Your own words are important and this is why you need to develop your own words as well.
How we Learn as Things Change
Back in the day I was taught that the eighth house was to do with death. But I prefer to read it as a transformation either of the mind, body or the finances.
Now, blood donors and blood donations (other people’s resources) are shown in your eighth house.
Greek astrologers or even those in the last century may not have experienced blood donors (or had the ability to benefit from blood donation) but we have this today.
It’s the same with Facebook being in the eleventh house. Social media and being “friends” with others is an eleventh house thing. But ten years ago FB was unknown.
Always Interpret in Your Own Words
Yes, you need to use the usual keywords to start with as you learn astrology. It is the language of astrology. But as you develop your own astrological voice I urge to use your own words. This may take a while but I encourage you to take ownership of the astrology you do.
If you want a cookie-cutter reading you can go to the internet and find a free site that prints preprinted pages of interpretations.
But, if you want to be a good astrologer you need to do your own thing. Your own thing comes from the internal dynamics of your own chart.
Be yourself. Don’t be just a human computer churning out information with no discernment for the value of what you produce, rather be yourself.
