He Who Dares Wins… Jupiter in Leo

Jupiter in Leo

As the planets wander through the sky they change positions against the backdrop of the zodiac.

This movement can be like a dance as everyone (the planets) take their place and enter the stage.

At anytime one or two of the planets will take center stage as the others fade into the background for a while.

Planets in prominent positions may have a story to tell, and we listen.

This time it is Jupiter as he enters the fifth sign of Leo. A fire planet (Jupiter) in a fire sign (Leo).

Up there right now the biggest planet in the solar system and the ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter, is entering the zodiac sign of the Lion.

Jupiter in Leo Imagery

I often use the imagery of a hot air balloon to explain the astrological meaning for Jupiter.

Balloons are big, brightly coloured and when they drift by you simply can’t miss them. Much like Jupiter.

The collective noun for balloons is a festival of balloons which brings a fun and exciting element to ballooning. Much like Jupiter.

They travel on their journey, but to who knows where? Much like Jupiter.

They are filled with hot air or gas, and balloons will explode if over-filled. Much like Jupiter.

They often broadcast a message from their sponsors or promote special events (such as at sports events) written in huge letters on the sides of the balloon. Much like Jupiter

And I would imagine that the people who do take a ride in a hot air balloon say a prayer before launch. Much like Jupiter.

I have always fancied trusting the woven basket and journeying on a balloon flight and perhaps one day I shall. Much like Jupiter.

Benefits of Jupiter in Leo

Jupiter in Leo is especially good news for the fire signs and that means those with strong fire signs present in their birth charts.

I will tell you I am strongly Leo myself and I have been waiting for a while now for this shift in energy as Jupiter changes sign.

If you have an Aries, Leo or Sagittarian Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Jupiter or other cluster of planets in these three signs you will benefit during the upcoming year as Jupiter goes through Leo.

If your business chart has the fire signs emphasized as well your business can experience huge growth now.

If you are strongly Gemini or Libra you will see some support and some good things. You need to grasp any opportunities fleeting as they may be.

If you are strongly Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius could face the difficult side and this may suggest the over excessive situations as mentioned later.

Those of you with strong Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn and Pisces may not see much change although you will try to make adjustments this year.

How can you make the most Jupiter in Leo

Jupiter in Leo is upbeat, positive and outgoing. It encourages taking chances and aiming higher in life.

Leo is the sign of the theatre and when planets enter the “stage” they will play their roles to perfection.

Using the theater analogy, Jupiter in Leo can either be the highly colorful swashbuckling much loved hero or he can be an overly costumed blow-hard in a pantomime.

The down side of Jupiter in Leo can be over-extension, over-doings things and excessive behavior. Or just too much of a good thing.

Pace yourself and all will be fine.

Jupiter in Leo, what’s in it for you

Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion.

It has to do with reaching for things just out of your grasp but it is the reaching that is important.

We like to s-t-r-e-t-c-h ourselves when Jupiter is active.

You can lift your eyes to gaze at your horizons.

Now is the time to aspire towards previously laughable dreams. Dust off your visions and start to believe.

When Jupiter is prominent by transit, and if it contacts your chart, you can raise your profile and aim for more in life.

Jupiter will support activities in broadcasting, promotion (self and business), publishing, gaining knowledge (as opposed to information), adult education, religious temperance, international travel and cosmopolitan situations.

Jupiter in Leo reinforces the theatre and daily dramas. See them for what they are.

What type of Astrologer are you?

What type of Astrologer are you?

by Alison Price

Know thyself

“Astrologer, know thyself.” –  Socrates.

Ancient words but as true today as the day they were penned (or is that quilled?)

As an astrologer you really do need to know your own natal chart well. Why not get a blank piece of paper and try to draw you chart from memory. This shows how well you know the ins and outs of your chart.

Self-knowledge is the key to understanding others. This includes the good, the bad and the ugly, warts and all.

I may not know you personally but I can hazard a guess about you:

  • You are your own person.
  • You are accomplished.
  • You read books.
  • You have lived.
  • You have laughed.
  • Your journey has brought you here.
  • You can do your own thing.
  • You have life experience.
  • You search for more.
  • You choose your own path.

You owe it to yourself to be the type of astrologer that sits well with your planetary indicators. We cannot all be the same type of astrologer.

Some explore their astrology through face-to-face consultations, video forecasts, supporting the astrology community via groups, writing or being the spokesman for astrology in the public eye.

In your astrology life you may want to:

  • Forecast and predict.
  • Write a Sun Sign column.
  • Understand your family better.
  • Host a blog.
  • Research an obscure technique.
  • Be a niche guru.
  • Curate the astrological community.
  • Support others.
  • Teach others.
  • Learn astrology for your own pleasure.
  • Write a book.
  • Get you name in lights.
  • Be rich.
  • Be famous.
  • Be on TV.
  • Live your life in tune with planetary cycles.
  • Understand yourself.
  • Understand others.
  • All of the above.
  • None of the above.

Chart indicators for an astrologer

Your natal chart gives clues as to the type of astrologer you are likely to be. Modern astrologers take Uranus, as the ruler of our craft and the traditional ruler is Mercury.

During transits to sensitive planets and chart points in your natal chart external changes may occur to alter your life path.

Experiencing progressions to sensitive planets and chart points is a time when internal changes are likely to develop to alter your karmic direction.

The above two points (transits and progressions to your natal chart) can suggest times in your life when astrology will begin to loom large. The more forecast triggers happening at once the more likely it will be.

Uranus

As the modern ruler of astrology and astrologers Uranus indicates an astrologer if it is conjoined your ascendant, Sun, Midheaven or Mercury. Or if Uranus is oriental where it suggests your vocation.

There are many instances where Uranus aspects the oriental planet in well-known astrologer’s charts.

All natal aspects to your Uranus will modify the type of astrologer you are likely to become.

Uranus conjunctions are the strongest indicators.

When natal Uranus is stimulated by progressions from the Sun, Mercury, the ascendant or Midheaven an interest in astrology will probably develop.

Aquarius

Aquarius on the first house cusp shows a personal interest in astrology.

On the Midheaven the Water bearer indicates that a business can be made from astrology.

When your progressed or directed ascendant or Midheaven enters Aquarius the focus of your life will shift. This change alone will not confirm astrology, but it will if supported by other indicators.

Mercury

The traditional ruler of astrology and astrologers is Mercury the planet of information gathering and dispersal and of scribing the events of the day.

When your natal Mercury receives aspects from transiting Uranus astrology becomes an interest.

Jupiter

As the philosopher and teacher, Jupiter often conjoins, squares or opposes the Sun or Uranus in astrologer’s natal charts.

It also frequently contacts Mercury, the ascendant or Midheaven.

When natal Jupiter is stimulated by transiting Uranus or progressed Mercury it may spark an interest and you will seek astrological knowledge.

Factors

Many factors contribute to an interest in astrology. If you take your passion for astrology a step further it makes sense to look at the career indicators for “An astrologer” in your chart. This can guide you towards fulfilling the potential shown by your natal placements.

If you live in tune with your natal chart you are more likely to be satisfied with your life and you can more readily be the type of astrologer your chart suggests, than one which you think you should be, by attempting to emulate those around you.

Do you have a strong Uranus or Mercury? What are your astrology indicators?

Sun Square Jupiter + Disposed by Mercury = Bragging Rights

Sun Square Jupiter + Disposed by Mercury = Bragging Rights

The Sun makes a square aspect to Jupiter twice a year.

The Sun as the faster moving of the two planets and is applying a square to Jupiter until the exact aspect, which forms on September 7th from then on it, will be a separating square. The applying period is felt more than the separating time.

A square aspect is ninety degrees with an orb of eight degrees coming and going. As the Sun moves at almost one degree a day this particular aspect will be in effect for sixteen days or just over two weeks. This one is the opening square.

Mercury owns this square.

With the Sun in Virgo and Jupiter in Gemini Mercury who rules both signs disposes them both. It is always valuable to consider the dispositors of the planets in any aspect as they may indicate which planet is the stronger of the two. In this aspect Mercury is conjunct the Sun reinforcing the Virgo part of this square.

What to expect.

We can expect to see individual aggrandizement and larger than life stories like “The one that got away” whether it was a fish, a job or a date.

If you are giving a presentation this Sun square Jupiter will aid you as it supports honest promotion.

You may want to tell all now and if you do you may not consider how the consequences of the truth you have to say may impact on your life. Be aware that you may be called to justify yourself. Things may later be seen as blatant lies and exaggeration.

This square can indicate a time where personal expression is over the top and excessive ego is visible. Watch out for behaving in a boasting way or hogging the conversation as both planets are in Mercury ruled signs. In the cold light of the day you may wish you had had more tact.

It will be tempting to take on more than you can deliver. Accepting projects with unrealistic deadlines will likely come back to haunt you later.

You (Sun) will be judged (Jupiter) in the aftermath of this square. Make sure your personal bluster does not let you down.

Children may be especially boisterous now and will want to get outside to run it off.

Jupiter in Gemini

Jupiter in Gemini

It’s a whopper!

Jupiter rules the sign Sagittarius the archer. Traditionally it is the ruler of Pisces the fish. We now refer to Jupiter as the co-ruler of Pisces along with the modern ruler Neptune.

Jupiter takes twelve years to make one journey around the Sun. With a dozen zodiac signs Jupiter will spend about one year in each sign. The timing is not exact but is pretty close. Jupiter’s orbit is loosely aligned with Chinese astrology which has one sign for each year and not each month as in western astrology. You can see the slight permutations in the movement of Jupiter through Gemini when you line it up against the Chinese astrology signs.

People with Jupiter in Gemini born between:

    • 1900 to 1966 are either Snakes or Horses
    • 1976 to 1978 are either Dragons, Snakes or Horses
    • 1988 to 2025 are either Dragons or Snakes.

Jupiter in Detriment

When a planet is in the sign opposite the one it rules (in this case Jupiter rules Sagittarius) it is said to be in its sign of detriment. Ptolemy had much to say about the essential dignities of the planets and when a planet is found in its detriment it receives a weighting score of -5. Jupiter is in its sign of detriment when in Gemini. This indicates the planets energies are not able to function particularly well or reach their full potential. Of course as always, a full analysis of the Jupiter complex is needed to appreciate its position in any chart.

The planet of breadth has met the sign of information.

What we can expect as Jupiter transits Gemini:

  • Information overload
  • Urgent messages need to get out
  • Outrageous media reports may not all be true
  • You will have a finger on the pulse of what’s going on
  • Online magazines will become the norm
  • Ebook publishing market will explode
  • You will broadcast yourself even more
  • Short forms texts and tweets will become expressive
  • Headlines will be too good to be true

Rohit Parikh • Dear Alison ,

Thanks
Rohit Parikh

Sandy Anastasi • How interesting. I am a double Gemini (Sun-Moon) and my Jupiter is in Taurus. I will certainly be watching this!

Alison Price • @Rohit, I believe in Lahiri this is the case. Perhaps you would like to share your views on Jupiter’s placement as you see it?

Alison Price • @Sandy, You can probably benefit by noting when Jupiter conjoins your Gemini Sun and Moon. This is a great opportunity to see astrology in action through your own natal chart.

Sandy Anastasi • Since my Gemini Moon is at 6 degrees I am already beginning to feel that…or at least get whispers about things to come. I have Gemini Venus at 19 degrees exactly trine Libra Neptune and my Gemini Sun at 29 degrees. Gemini is intercepted in the 12th house. Since I teach, write, and travel a great deal I suspect this is going to be an interesting if not wild ride! I will most definitely keep a diary. Under this present Venus transit I am getting some strong insights already.
