This article is part of my Your Astrology Business series, where I explore things like when to go professional as an astrologer, business branding pertaining to setting up and running a meaningful astrology business, 25 Tips to polish your readings and what to pack for an astrology conference. Additionally I share stories about how I setup my Starzology Astrology Podcast.
When you think about building your astrology practice, you may focus on marketing plans, pricing or social media.
Yet beneath all of that, something quieter is at work. Your natal chart is already shaping who feels drawn to you.
The outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, operate below the surface of everyday awareness.
They describe deep currents in your psyche and the subtle signals you send out without trying.
These energies can influence the type of clients who notice you, resonate with you and eventually reach out for a reading.
The two inferior planets, Mercury and Venus, can be considered in regard to how you operate in general.
Then, by becoming aware of your dominant outer planet, you can begin to work with this natural attraction rather than leaving it to chance.
When you consciously engage your Mercury and bring thoughtful intention to your message, you align your daily actions with your deeper chart signature.
From there, your astrology business starts to feel less forced and more like an authentic expression of who you truly are.
If Venus is your prominent inner planet, the process shifts in a gentle but powerful way. So, rather than leading with analysis and messaging alone (Mercury), you lead with connection.
Venus brings social ease, charm and a natural sense of grace. It softens your approach and makes people feel welcomed, seen and appreciated.
Where Mercury focuses on what you say and how you say it, Venus focuses on how others feel in your presence. Your clients may be drawn to your warmth, your aesthetic, your kindness or the beauty you create around your work.
By working with Venus as your inner guide, you allow your natural social graces to support your outer planet signature, creating a practice that feels both elegant and deeply aligned.
Not all business methods work for all businesses. Not all astrology business’ work the same for everyone either. What gels with for one practitioner will not necessarily pan out for another, because the two astrologers have different natal charts to each other. To find satisfying work, you have to be aligned with the energy potentials shown in your own chart. One way of tapping into this is by looking at your outer planet signature.
Chart signatures are usually assessed by looking at all the planets in the chart. This time we will only look at the outer planets to get an insight into how you work on a more subconscious level.
Usually the planet Uranus, Neptune or Pluto will step forward when you do a quick arithmetic calculation for each planet.
You want to find out what happens when you are not looking and paying attention. Your prominent outer planet will function almost as the background noise, or default mode, of your personal attraction.
You can discover which outer planet is strong in your natal chart by measuring which of them is more energized and engaged in your natal chart by checking with the following table.
If you do the activity to find your dominant outer planet you will have a number which represents the prominence of the outer planet in your chart.
So, what?
Well now you can see the difference in how each of the outer planets operate. Your strong outer planet will work for you over and above the two weaker outer planets in the following manner.
If the outer planet is not strong in the natal chart because say, the Moon dominates the chart, then the outer planetary energy will continue to operate the background of your life.
If Pluto is your dominant outer planet, your client attraction works beneath the surface. You do not always need loud promotion. Instead, there is a quiet intensity about your work that draws the right people toward you. The connection can feel fated, private and deeply personal.
Your words may carry layers of meaning. Subtle or psychologically rich advertising can speak directly to those who are ready for depth. The people who resonate will recognize themselves in what you hint at rather than what you spell out.
At times it can feel as though clients simply show up. There is a sense of inevitability about the connection. They may say they felt compelled to contact you or that something just pulled them in your direction.
Some potential clients watch quietly before making contact. They read your website, follow your posts and observe your tone. They are assessing whether you are safe enough for the kind of deep work they seek.
Pluto work can be intense. Clients may sense that you go straight to the heart of the matter. This can be both attractive and intimidating. They may hesitate, knowing that a reading with you could uncover truths they have kept hidden.
It is common for Pluto signature clients to take their time. They may engage anonymously, subscribe quietly or return again and again before booking. Trust builds slowly, but once established it is strong.
When the timing is right, they step forward. Often this happens during periods of crisis, transformation or deep questioning in their lives. They seek you out because they sense you can handle the raw and complex themes they are facing.
If Neptune is your dominant outer planet, your client flow feels subtle and inspired. You are not always sure how people found you. There is a sense of drift and divine timing. The connection is often emotional, spiritual and based on a shared sensitivity.
Neptune clients respond to mood and imagery. Soft colors, poetic language and creative presentation speak to them. They are drawn to the feeling behind your message as much as the content itself.
Many of your clients may reach out during tender moments. They could be searching for meaning, comfort or reassurance. Some may even say they asked the universe for guidance and then discovered you.
With Neptune, referrals and discoveries can feel mysterious. People seem to absorb your presence over time. They might not recall exactly where they first encountered you, only that they felt guided in your direction.
These clients are captivated by symbolism and the unfolding story of the chart. They enjoy the dreamlike quality of astrology and are willing to explore subtle layers of meaning.
Faith plays a role here. Neptune types often approach astrology with openness and trust. They are ready to receive insight and may already see astrology as part of their spiritual path.
Your Neptune signature attracts seekers. They may meditate, pray or follow a spiritual practice. They value compassion and empathy and appreciate an astrologer who listens gently and holds space with care.
If Uranus is your dominant outer planet, your client attraction can feel electric and unpredictable. People connect with you quickly. There is often an instant spark of shared ideas or excitement about astrology itself.
Uranian clients are fascinated by the craft. They are curious about techniques, systems and new approaches. They may come to you not only for answers but for the love of astrology as a subject in its own right.
Many will want to study. They ask questions about how charts work and how you reach your conclusions. Some may eventually become students, colleagues or collaborators.
These clients appreciate innovation. They are comfortable with technology, online readings and contemporary interpretations. They value fresh thinking and progressive perspectives.
Uranus thrives in communities and networks. You may meet clients through workshops, conferences or astrology groups. Introductions can happen in lively, social settings where ideas are being exchanged.
Online platforms suit your Uranian signature well. Clients may discover you through social media, forums or digital communities. The connection can begin with a comment, a share or a quick message.
Your clients often celebrate their individuality. They enjoy being different and are open to alternative viewpoints. They may seek you out because you support their uniqueness rather than trying to fit them into a mold.
There is often a reforming spirit in your Uranus clients. They are interested in progress, equality and new visions for society. They value astrology as a tool for awareness and awakening, and they look to you for insight that supports their larger ideals.
If Pluto is strong in your chart, your business thrives on depth, trust and transformation. You are not here for light entertainment. You are here to guide people through profound inner change. Your promotion works best when it reflects the seriousness and power of the work you actually do.
Make it clear that you go beneath the surface. Highlight your ability to explore motivations, fears, patterns and shadow material. Clients who are ready for real self examination will recognize the value immediately.
Pluto governs intimacy and taboo subjects. If this is within your skill set, you can signal that you are comfortable discussing sensitive topics. This reassures clients who may feel embarrassed speaking elsewhere.
You do not have to explain everything. A tone of depth and quiet power can be more compelling than over sharing. Let people sense that there is more to discover once they step inside your world.
Exclusivity suits Pluto. Emphasize one to one sessions, confidential containers and focused time. Your ideal clients want to feel held in a secure and undistracted space.
Some Pluto clients prefer discretion. You might offer options that protect identity, such as private bookings or minimal public sharing. This can lower the barrier for those dealing with delicate issues.
Be explicit about confidentiality. State clearly that what is shared in session remains private. Trust is everything in Pluto work and naming it builds confidence.
Use language that reflects transformation. Speak about breakthroughs, healing old wounds and reclaiming personal power. Those in crisis or transition will feel understood.
Pluto resonates with themes of karma, rebirth and the soul journey. If appropriate to your practice, you can include regression style work or karmic chart analysis as part of your offerings.
Times of loss are deeply Plutonian. You can position yourself as someone who gently supports clients through grief, endings and life altering change, helping them find meaning during difficult passages.
When you align your promotion with Pluto’s depth and intensity, you naturally attract those who are ready to do courageous inner work.
If Neptune is strong in your chart, your astrology business grows through compassion, inspiration and subtle connection. You are offering more than information. You are offering reassurance, hope and a sense of meaning. Your promotion works best when it reflects empathy and spiritual awareness.
Let potential clients know that you truly hear them. Simple phrases that convey understanding can be powerful. Many Neptune clients are seeking to feel seen at an emotional or spiritual level.
If you work intuitively, say so. Neptune supports insight that flows rather than follows strict rules. Clients who value this approach will feel comforted knowing you trust your inner guidance.
Highlight your ability to listen. Neptune types often need space to share their story. Emphasize that your sessions are gentle, reflective and non judgmental.
Build bridges through shared feeling. Without oversharing, you can communicate that you appreciate the human experience of confusion, longing and growth. This creates trust.
Neptune clients may fear being dismissed. Affirm that their concerns are valid and meaningful. Your belief in the significance of their struggles helps them open up.
Visual symbols can enhance your message. Soft, mystical imagery or spiritual tools can reinforce the atmosphere of your practice. It is less about theatrics and more about creating a mood of reflection and wonder.
Neptune rules dreams and ideals. Speak about helping clients clarify their life path, reconnect with inspiration and rediscover their purpose. This language resonates deeply.
If this is true for you, allow it to be known gently and honestly. Neptune clients are often spiritually inclined and may actively seek intuitive or mediumistic guidance.
When you promote your work through kindness, imagination and faith, you attract those who are looking for meaning as much as answers.
If Uranus is strong in your chart, your astrology business grows through innovation, independence and fresh ideas. You are here to awaken, to modernize and to connect people through shared vision. Your promotion works best when it feels progressive and future focused.
Position your work as relevant and current. Show how astrology speaks to modern life, technology and social change. Uranian clients want to know that this ancient craft still has cutting edge value.
If that suits you, lean into alternative perspectives. Explore progressive topics, unconventional techniques and emerging schools of thought. Your audience is open to what is different.
Technology is your ally. Online bookings, digital charts and virtual sessions align well with your signature. Even visually, a modern setup reinforces your innovative style.
Uranus carries youthful energy. Emphasize accessibility and openness. Show that astrology is not restricted by age, background or tradition.
Think broad reach. Webinars, group talks and online communities suit your style. You are comfortable sharing knowledge widely rather than keeping it exclusive.
Uranus rules the future and breakthroughs. Highlight forecasting, trends and upcoming shifts. Clients who are excited about what lies ahead will be drawn to you.
You may attract an international audience. Promote cross cultural dialogue and global awareness. Uranus thrives in diverse networks that connect beyond geography.
Align yourself with humanitarian or outreach efforts if that resonates. Uranus values collective progress and social contribution.
Community is key. Whether online or in person, groups, forums and discussion circles amplify your influence. Uranian clients enjoy learning and sharing within a network.
When you align your promotion with Uranus, you naturally attract curious, forward thinking individuals who are eager to explore astrology in a modern and connected way.

The three outer planets are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
They are also known as the transpersonal planets.
In astrology, the outer planets don’t concern themselves with your daily to-do list or whether Mercury is ruining your email again.
Uranus, Neptune and Pluto work on a much grander scale.
They move slowly, think collectively and have absolutely no interest in your comfort zone.
These are the planets that awaken, dissolve and transform your life from the ground up.
When they are strong in a chart or transit, life doesn’t just change, it upgrades, unravels or completely reinvents itself.
Subtle they are not.
Uranus is the planet which flips your life over and calls it progress. It governs revolution, rebellion and the sudden realization that “this just isn’t working anymore.”
Uranus is associated with:
Where Uranus is placed in your chart, that is where you refuse to follow the script. This is the part of you which craves freedom, originality and the right to do things in your own unique way.
Uranus transits often coincide with unexpected events, breakthroughs, breakouts and breakdowns and the irresistible urge to quit, move, invent or radically redefine yourself somehow.
Collectively, Uranus rules social revolutions and technological leaps forward. It reminds humanity that evolution doesn’t happen by playing it safe.
Uranus changes, breaks and fashions. Uranus represents adolescents, trendsetters, agitators, and immigrants. Uranus rules Aquarius.
Neptune is less interested in facts and more interested in feelings, dreams and everything that can’t be measured with a ruler. It dissolves boundaries and blurs lines in your life and especially the ones you thought were solid.
Neptune governs:
In a natal chart, Neptune reveals where we yearn for something more. Its transits can feel magical, confusing or both at once. Neptune urges us to trust our intuition but also warns us not to believe every fantasy story we tell ourselves about who we are.
Generationally, Neptune shapes cultural dreams and disillusionments. It shows what society idolizes, escapes into or eventually wakes up from.
Neptune understands, dissolves and eludes. The people that Neptune represents are dreamers, ghosts, angels and nomads. Neptune rules Pisces.
Pluto doesn’t knock. It arrives with a flashlight and insists we look at everything we’ve buried. This is the planet that bring deep transformation, power struggles and irreversible change into your life.
Pluto governs:
Pluto transits are not gentle, but they are honest.
They expose what is corrupt, stagnant or no longer sustainable and then they dismantle or purge it.
Whatever, or whomever, survives a Pluto transit experience is stronger, truer and permanently altered.
On a generational level, Pluto marks profound shifts in power structures, economics and social taboos. In personal astrology, Pluto shows where we confront our deepest fears and discover our hidden strength.
Pluto transforms, buries and rebirths. The people that Pluto represents are crisis workers, the taxman, demons, coercers and the Grim Reaper. Pluto rules the fixed water sign of Scorpio the Scorpion.
⠀
Together, the outer planets operate far beyond personal preference. They are less concerned with happiness and more invested in evolution and the survival of the fittest. Their movements describe the long, messy, fascinating process of becoming both individually and collectively.
The outer planets show us that astrology isn’t just about understanding yourself. Rather it’s about understanding why the universe occasionally pulls the rug out from under you and calls it growth.

Astrology seems to have answers for just about everything, and money is no exception. One of the questions I hear most often from clients (apart from love) is about their finances. It’s such a hot topic, and over the years I’ve seen how differently it can show up in people’s charts. Everyone has their own unique money story.
In this piece, I’m going to focus on the two main financial planets. When I look at these in a chart, alongside other money indicators, I often see patterns that really resonate with clients and help them understand their relationship with money in a whole new way.
Listen to our recent podcast episode about Financial Planets.
The two main financial planets are Venus and Pluto.
Venus is the natural ruler of the second house which is the traditional house for money. This house is also associated with Taurus. Venus rules Taurus.
Pluto is the second important financial planet. Pluto rules your commitments, outgoings or debts through the eighth house which in the natural wheel is associated with Scorpio. Pluto rules Scorpio.
The main things to look for with Venus and money are:
The main things to look for with Pluto and money are:
If the two financial planets, Venus and Pluto, have an aspect between them it bodes well for your finances. They will work together through the aspect.
In general, Ptolemaic aspect have an orb of 8° and 4° for a sextile. Venus as the faster if the two planets, will either be applying or separating from an aspect with Pluto.
The situation has as yet to come to a head. Wait
When Venus is separating from an aspect to Pluto the situation has passed. It could be that the moment has gone.
Always consider if Venus and Pluto, when in an aspect with each other, are disassociate as this weakens the bond. This used to be called out of sign aspects.
Example
If Venus is at 28° Libra and Pluto is at 2° Scorpio they are in a disassociate conjunction.
It’s always interesting to look at what is coming up with the transits.
When Venus transits your second house you are more likely to get a monetary boost. When Venus conjoins the ruler of your second house you are likely to get financial benefits in some way.
When Venus is direct, money flows positively. When Venus is retrograde, money can be stalled and interest rates will likely hold or fall.
When Pluto transits your eighth house you will have to attend to your debts. This is the time to transfer your commitments and pay down what you owe.
When Pluto is direct lending scan be a regular part of life. When Pluto is retrograde avoid taking on extra credit and loans. Watch out as interest rates will probably rise and kill you. Avoid signing mortgage contracts when Pluto is retrograde.
Venus and Pluto are often considered the key financial planets in astrology. Together, they can reveal valuable insights about your overall relationship with money, resources and security as shown by your chart.
Venus reflects how you attract wealth, what you value and your natural ability to create abundance.
Pluto brings depth and transformation, showing where financial power struggles, hidden resources or opportunities for regeneration may emerge.
By looking at both of the financial planets in your chart, you can gain a clearer picture of your monetary patterns, strengths and the deeper lessons tied to your ultimate prosperity.

This time, we’re taking a look at one of astrology’s most powerful (and often underestimated) forces: Pluto. When Pluto makes aspects to other planets in a natal chart, it signals areas of deep transformation, personal empowerment and possibly soulful evolution. These connections, or aspects, reveal where we are challenged, where we ultimately will grow, and where our hidden strengths can be uncovered over time.
There is likely to be some intense emotional healing, rebirth after setbacks, or uncovering inner power as Pluto aspects can shape a lifetime of renewal. In this article, I break down what it means when Pluto links up with the planets to help you better understand the subtle, but profound influence this cosmic force has in every chart. So, if you’re ready to explore themes of transformation, power and soul-deep insight, keep reading. Pluto may be small, but its message is mighty. Remember, dynamite comes in small packages.
Pluto’s energy in the birth chart is powerful, transformative and often subtle at first, but make no mistake, it can have a profound impact over time. When Pluto forms aspects to other planets or points in your chart, it shows where deep change, personal empowerment and psychological growth are most likely to occur.
These aspects often reveal hidden strengths or unconscious patterns. Understanding them can help you, as an astrologer, identify areas where your client may evolve through their life’s challenges, crises or inner realizations.
Pluto aspects bring a range of themes including:
When Pluto is conjunct another planet, the two energies merge. The Pluto influence intensifies the other planet’s expression. The house becomes a focus as well. This is often a major signature in the chart, especially if it happens with a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars). The person may experience repeated cycles of death and rebirth in that area of life.
The hard, oppositions and squares are the challenging aspects. They can point to control issues, resistance to change, or emotional intensity that must be worked through somehow. They often involve outside forces that push the person to grow. These aspects can be difficult in youth but tend to bring strength and resilience later in life.
The soft aspects bring easier access to Pluto’s gifts. The person may have a natural ability to regenerate, transform or be able to go deep in the area where the aspect lands. These flowing connections often show an ability to navigate life’s ups and downs with inner strength.
When the Sun and Pluto are in aspect your identity is transformed through power, crisis or rebirth. A strong will and a desire for self-mastery are present in any chart with this combination.
Typically, emotions run deep as the Moon contacts Pluto. There may be intense early experiences that shape emotional responses. Anticipate the potential for deep and sometimes painful emotional healing.
The pairing of Mercury and Pluto indicates that the person’s mind is probing and insightful. They may be a natural researcher or truth-seeker, drawn to what lies beneath the surface.
Often love and values are intense when Venus and Pluto pair up. Relationships can be deeply transformative, sometimes obsessive, or possibly healing.
These two planets, Mars and Pluto, draw together energy that is both driven and determined. The person whose chart this may have a powerful will and must learn to channel energy constructively.
Expect some expansion through transformation themes in any chart with Jupiter and Pluto aspects. There may be a drive to influence others, a strong belief system or powerful personal growth.
This pairing suggests the person has deep endurance and the capacity to rebuild their life after setbacks. There is a theme of structure that meets transformation when Saturn aspects Pluto.
As an astrologer, pay attention to Pluto’s aspects as they will help you to identify where your client may go through significant internal upheavals in their lives. These dynamic Pluto aspects are often linked to karmic themes, soul-level evolution and hidden strengths which can emerge and bubble up over time. Although you might not start your client’s chart interpretation with Pluto, make sure not to overlook our favorite dwarf planet. In any chart, Pluto’s story is often one of the most profound ones.
Here are a few more articles and podcast episodes about Pluto.
Pluto is one of those cosmic forces that’s hard to ignore. In a birth chart, its energy shows up through the aspects it makes with other planets and key points like the Ascendant, Midheaven and the Lunar Nodes.
While Pluto might not be the first planet you focus on when reading a chart, it definitely deserves your attention. If you take the time to understand Pluto’s message it can offer deep insights and it’s a powerful tool for any astrologer.
If you’re not too familiar with Pluto and how it influences a chart, consider digging in deeper over the next few months. There’s so much to discover about this mysterious and transformative planet.
Here are a few Pluto and aspect themes books which you may like.

Often astrology jogs along with not much happening. Moons come and go, the Sun trots thorough the signs in a predictable manner and Mercury and Venus follow suit. But now and then big things happen. This week we will witness the most important shift of planetary energy for a while. The biggest ingress this year is the final move of Pluto into Aquarius on November 19, 2024. Pluto has recently dallied in and out of the sign of the Water Bearer for many months. Pluto will be in Aquarius until 2043. It leaves Capricorn for Aquarius not to return to this sign for about 240 years. Let’s just get a refresh about the themes that Pluto brings to our charts.
In astrology, Pluto is associated with several significant themes many of which are life changing and deeply personal. Pluto is linked to profound, sometimes difficult life transitions that lead to personal growth or renewal for us mere mortals. I like to use the analogy of the caterpillar to a butterfly to express Pluto’s effect on people’s lives.
Here are some of my ideas on the sequence of events which unfolds as transiting Pluto makes an aspect to a natal planet. The conjunction is the strongest, but oppositions and squares (especially to the natal Sun or the chart ruler) can wreak havoc for some people as their whole life faces upheaval.
The caterpillar, content in its current form, represents our initial state. Plutonian energy comes into play. This is the first indication of the transit of Pluto. Things that begin to unfold now are indicators of what will be transformed by the full transit of Pluto.
The caterpillar enters the chrysalis and begins to break down. This mirrors Pluto’s association with endings and letting go of old forms. It can be uncomfortable or even feel like a “death” of sorts. This is a turning point and things begin to decay.
Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar undergoes a profound change. This hidden process reflects Pluto’s connection to the unconscious and unseen forces at work beneath the surface. This reversed energy suggests the time needed to break down old patterns, relationships and attitudes before something new can spark.
The butterfly must struggle to emerge from the chrysalis, building strength for its new life. This point, the station, parallels the challenges often associated with Plutonian transformations. Now is the first peek of the potential outcome of the transit, but things can still change.
Finally, the butterfly emerges as a completely new form with new capabilities. This represents the rebirth and renewal aspect of Pluto. The final direct pass is the time when what has changed over the period gone before, can be seen. There is likely to be a new order. Transformations that occurred recently are likely to be completed now.
The butterfly can now fly, to see the world from a whole new vantage point. This symbolizes the profound shift in perspective that often accompanies Plutonian experiences. Just as the caterpillar could never imagine its future as a butterfly, Plutonian transformations are often seen as taking us beyond what we thought possible, through a process that may be challenging, but it ultimately leads to growth and a new way of being.

⠀
Note that Pluto will make a 3-hit transit direct-retrograde-direct. However, it frequently makes a 5-hit transit to any point in the natal chart, direct-retrograde-direct-retrograde-direct. If this is the case, the transformation takes longer. The highs and lows can be expected at the third and fourth exact contacts. If this is your client’s chart, you need to carefully speak about the roller-coaster ride that they are on if Pluto is closely transiting their chart.
This planet is associated with issues of power dynamics, manipulation and the struggle for control both internal and external.
Pluto represents hidden aspects of your psyche, repressed memories and deep-seated psychological patterns.
Pluto’s energy is intense, passionate and focused on getting to the core of matters.
Symbolically, Pluto represents the cycle of ending and new beginnings, both literally and metaphorically.
Pluto is linked to the more primal aspects of sexuality and deep emotional connections.
The process of confronting and overcoming deep-seated issues is often attributed to Plutonian influence.
Pluto is sometimes associated with obsessive behaviors and the drive to pursue something at all costs.
On a larger time scale, Pluto is often interpreted as influencing generational shifts and societal transformations.
In natal charts, Pluto’s position by house indicates areas of life where you might experience intense focus, transformative experiences, or power struggles.
Pluto was discovered in 1930 and was considered the ninth planet until 2006 when Pluto was demoted from being a main solar system planet to being reclassified as a dwarf planet. At the same time Ceres, an asteroid, was upgraded to dwarf planet status alongside Pluto. This was a time when many conventional astrologers started to work with Ceres into their charts. The unusual orbit was one factor that led to its reclassification as a dwarf planet. This reclassification sparked debates about the definition of a planet that continue to this day.
Pluto’s average distance from the Sun is about 3.7 billion miles (5.9 billion km), though this varies significantly due to its elliptical orbit.
Pluto takes approximately 248 years to complete one orbit around the Sun.
Pluto’s orbit is highly elliptical compared to the planets. At its closest approach (perihelion), back in the 1980s it was actually nearer to the Sun than Neptune.
The orbit is tilted about 17° relative to the plane of the ecliptic.
Pluto’s largest moon is called Charon and was discovered in 1978. Named after the mythological ferryman who carried souls across the river Styx to the underworld. Pluto has four other minor moons Nix, Hydra, Kerberos and Styx, which are all much smaller than Charon.
Orbital resonance is a gravitational phenomenon where two orbiting bodies exert periodic gravitational influence on each other. In the case of Pluto and Neptune, their 2:3 resonance is a fascinating example of celestial mechanics at work.
The 2:3 ratio means that for every two orbits Pluto completes around the Sun, Neptune completes three orbits. This creates a repeating pattern of gravitational interactions and we astrologers love a pattern.
Neptune’s orbital period is approximately 164.8 Earth years. Pluto’s orbital period is approximately 248.1 Earth years. The ratio of these periods is very close to 2:3 (248.1 / 164.8 ≈ 1.5).
This resonance helps stabilize Pluto’s orbit over long periods. Despite crossing Neptune’s orbit, the resonance ensures they’re never in the same place at the same time, preventing potential collisions.
Pluto’s orbit “librates” or oscillates around a mean position relative to Neptune. This means the exact point where Pluto crosses Neptune’s orbit shifts over time, but in a predictable pattern.
The discovery of this resonance in 1964 by Cohen and Hubbard helped explain why Pluto, despite its irregular orbit, hadn’t been gravitationally disrupted by Neptune over billions of years.
The myth of Pluto primarily refers to the ancient Roman god of the underworld, who was known as Hades in Greek mythology.
Pluto was one of the children of Saturn (Cronus in Greek mythology) and Ops (Rhea). He was brother to Jupiter (Zeus) and Neptune (Poseidon).
After the defeat of the Titans, the world was divided among the three brothers Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. Pluto received dominion over the underworld, the realm of the dead.
He is often depicted as a strict, bearded man holding a scepter or cornucopia. Pluto is associated with wealth, as precious metals like gold and platinum come from beneath the earth. This figure is usually portrayed as cold and stern, but not inherently evil.
Pluto’s most famous myth involves his abduction of Persephone, daughter of Ceres (Demeter), to be his wife. This led to the creation of the seasons in mythology.
In this tale, the musician Orpheus descends to the underworld to retrieve his wife. Pluto is moved by Orpheus’s music and allows Eurydice to return under certain conditions.
As an astrologer in 2024, you need to understand what Pluto represents and where is will be over the next few years as it creeps forward through Aquarius. Anyone with planets or points in the first five degrees of Aquarius will get a conjunction from Pluto. Anyone with planets or points in the first five degrees of Leo will get an opposition from Pluto. Anyone with planets in the early degrees of Taurus and Scorpio will get a square from Pluto.
For me, Pluto will oppose my Ascendant shortly. I can’t say I’m looking forward to this aspect. But what I can do is prepare myself for the inevitable transformations that will no doubt occur in my appearance and personal presentation.
