The red planet is known for its energy, effort being expended and activity.
This is the planet that gets you off the couch as something inspires you take action.
It is all about overcoming inertia and any sluggish behaviour that may have been plaguing you recently.
Martial energy will push forward through the meaning of the sign and there is always a shift in momentum when Mars changes sign.
Gemini Themes
Gemini is the sign for multi-tasking and Mars in Mercury’s active sign helps you keep all the balls you are juggling in the air. The more balls you have the higher you have to throw them. Yeah…
You may not get much finalized at this time but there will be lots of activity and brainstorming.
Get you thinking cap on and forge ahead, carving out your ideas for world domination.
We want to see you win.
Mars in Gemini
Gemini is not the easiest placement for Mars.
It can work for you and it depends on what you are trying to do.
Mars is all about activity and having the energy to expend.
The knack is to make an effort where it matters.
It is best to work with the cosmic energy and not against it.
What will you juggle this time?
Mars in the Signs
Below are some more Mars placements in the signs. As I write more I’ll add them here.

The Sun makes a square aspect to Jupiter twice a year. The Sun as the faster moving of the two planets and is applying a square to Jupiter until the exact aspect, which forms on September 7th from then on it, will be a separating square. The applying period is felt...

As the planets wander through the sky they change positions against the backdrop of the zodiac.
This movement can be like a dance as everyone (the planets) take their place and enter the stage.
At anytime one or two of the planets will take center stage as the others fade into the background for a while.
Planets in prominent positions may have a story to tell, and we listen.
This time it is Jupiter as he enters the fifth sign of Leo. A fire planet (Jupiter) in a fire sign (Leo).
Up there right now the biggest planet in the solar system and the ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter, is entering the zodiac sign of the Lion.
Jupiter in Leo Imagery
I often use the imagery of a hot air balloon to explain the astrological meaning for Jupiter.
Balloons are big, brightly coloured and when they drift by you simply can’t miss them. Much like Jupiter.
The collective noun for balloons is a festival of balloons which brings a fun and exciting element to ballooning. Much like Jupiter.
They travel on their journey, but to who knows where? Much like Jupiter.
They are filled with hot air or gas, and balloons will explode if over-filled. Much like Jupiter.
They often broadcast a message from their sponsors or promote special events (such as at sports events) written in huge letters on the sides of the balloon. Much like Jupiter
And I would imagine that the people who do take a ride in a hot air balloon say a prayer before launch. Much like Jupiter.
I have always fancied trusting the woven basket and journeying on a balloon flight and perhaps one day I shall. Much like Jupiter.
Benefits of Jupiter in Leo
Jupiter in Leo is especially good news for the fire signs and that means those with strong fire signs present in their birth charts.
I will tell you I am strongly Leo myself and I have been waiting for a while now for this shift in energy as Jupiter changes sign.
If you have an Aries, Leo or Sagittarian Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Jupiter or other cluster of planets in these three signs you will benefit during the upcoming year as Jupiter goes through Leo.
If your business chart has the fire signs emphasized as well your business can experience huge growth now.
If you are strongly Gemini or Libra you will see some support and some good things. You need to grasp any opportunities fleeting as they may be.
If you are strongly Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius could face the difficult side and this may suggest the over excessive situations as mentioned later.
Those of you with strong Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn and Pisces may not see much change although you will try to make adjustments this year.
How can you make the most Jupiter in Leo
Jupiter in Leo is upbeat, positive and outgoing. It encourages taking chances and aiming higher in life.
Leo is the sign of the theatre and when planets enter the “stage” they will play their roles to perfection.
Using the theater analogy, Jupiter in Leo can either be the highly colorful swashbuckling much loved hero or he can be an overly costumed blow-hard in a pantomime.
The down side of Jupiter in Leo can be over-extension, over-doings things and excessive behavior. Or just too much of a good thing.
Pace yourself and all will be fine.
Jupiter in Leo, what’s in it for you
Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion.
It has to do with reaching for things just out of your grasp but it is the reaching that is important.
We like to s-t-r-e-t-c-h ourselves when Jupiter is active.
You can lift your eyes to gaze at your horizons.
Now is the time to aspire towards previously laughable dreams. Dust off your visions and start to believe.
When Jupiter is prominent by transit, and if it contacts your chart, you can raise your profile and aim for more in life.
Jupiter will support activities in broadcasting, promotion (self and business), publishing, gaining knowledge (as opposed to information), adult education, religious temperance, international travel and cosmopolitan situations.
Jupiter in Leo reinforces the theatre and daily dramas. See them for what they are.
The signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo. Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
Aries is the first sign and Pisces is the last sign.
Planets
The seven visible planets traditionally used in astrology are; the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
The three outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto cannot be seen without a telescope (although some young eyes claim they can see Uranus), but these three are not part of the traditional or classical planets of astrology.
Sign Rulership
Each sign has a planet that rules the sign known as the planetary ruler.
Aries is ruled by Mars.
Taurus is ruled by Venus.
Gemini is ruled by Mercury.
Cancer is ruled by the Moon.
Leo is ruled by the Sun.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury.
Libra is ruled by Venus.
Scorpio is ruled by Mars.
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter.
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn.
Aquarius is ruled by Saturn.
Pisces is ruled by Jupiter.
Above is simply a list with apparently no clear reason behind it. Students have to learn the rulerships.
But there is some method in the madness and these signs rulerships are based on the seasons.
Where astrology evolved in the northern hemisphere (southern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the middle east) the warmest months of the year are July and August.
They were seen as the best time and the start of Leo (zero degrees Leo) as the pivotal day.
They gave the rulership of Leo to the Sun and the ruler of Cancer to the Moon. The Sun and the Moon are the two dominant bodies in the sky.
Adjacent to Cancer and Leo are the two signs allocated to Mercury (the next planet from the Sun). Gemini and Virgo are ruled by Mercury.
Next up is Venus and she rules Taurus and Libra both adjacent to Mercury’s signs but one sign further out.
Mars gets rulership of the two signs of Aries and Scorpio. Mars is the next planet out from the Sun.
Next are Jupiter’s two signs of Pisces and Sagittarius both next to Mars’ signs.
Saturn has Aquarius and Capricorn both signs farthest from zero Leo and Saturn is the planet at the limit of our visible planets.
Sign Rulership diagram
I hope the above diagram explains from where rulerships originally came.
Does it make a difference to your readings? Well, probably not but the richness of the history can be interesting in itself.
Each sign has a planet that rules the sign known as the planetary ruler.
If you have planets in Virgo you can get things done.
Virgo is a modest sign. Often people with many Virgo placements brush off their accomplishments as old hat when others comment on their abilities by replying simply “Oh, but everyone can do that.”
Well no, not everyone can do the things those with a strong Virgo chart can.
A strong Virgo signature is a chart where there are three or more planets or the ascendant in the sign of the virgin with Mercury direct.
Imagery
The imagery for Virgo is a maiden holding a sheaf of wheat.
Now I propose she did not just get the bundle of cereal handed to her off camera. I imagine she donned her wellies and was down in the field and harvested the grain herself.
Miss Virgo then paused for the photo opportunity (our imagery of the constellation) she turns, walks over to the millstone and thrashes the wheat from the chaff.
She gathers up the germs of goodness and enters her kitchen to bake bread. When the loaves are prepared she calmly places them on a clean gingham cloth in a wicker basket. Then serves her nutritious sustenance to the workers in her village.
Simple food, not flashy but full of goodness.
Very practical.
Mercury
The ruling planet for Virgo is Mercury and there are clues in the affinity Mercury has with the hands, handiwork, and craftwork.
Women with Virgo planets are often knitting, baking and crafting things. These seem to be skills which are slowing disappearing as not all girls are taught these subjects anymore.
Men with Virgo placements are definitely handy to have about the place. Mr. Virgo is a guy who can wire a plug, chop onions and bath the dog.
Maybe not at the same time.
Perception
Perhaps the true skill of Virgo is that they look like they don’t know how to do things but in actual fact they do. They don’t yell from the rooftops about what they have done but go about their business attending to what needs doing on a daily basis.
Richard Branson’s Virgin International’s tag line is “More experienced than our name suggests” which about sums it up.
“More experienced than our name suggests”
If you are lucky enough to have Miss or Mr. Virgo living in your home you maybe taking them for granted…
Do you have a strong Virgo signature? Do you have planets in Virgo? Can you get things done? I really don’t expect any comments as the Virgo’s themselves don’t think they are that important.
The Naming of the Modes goes In and Out of Fashion
Back in the seventies, they were referred to as the quadruplicities or qualities and yet nowadays simply as the modes.
Our modern classification is based on ancient ideas for categorization.
It all begins with the sign’s natural relationship with the angles (Ascendant, IC, Descendant and MC) and the seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and winter).
Even today the seasons officially begin when the Sun enters the four cardinal signs.
Astrology has its roots in the northern hemisphere and references to spring and autumn are northern-centric terminology. South of the equator spring and autumn are reversed as are summer and winter.
Cardinal Signs
The cardinal signs were originally divided into subsets of tropical and equinoctal containing two signs each.
Tropical Signs
Cancer and Capricorn are the signs which begin directly after the solstices.
Where the Sun seemingly turns back towards the equator at the latitude limits of the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
These herald the start of summer and winter.
Equinoctal Signs
The two equinoctal signs are Aries and Libra. For these are the signs that begin at the two equinoxes.
When the Sun crosses the celestial equator going north or south. It is also the point of the solar nodes.
The sign Aries starts at the vernal equinox and Libra begins at the autumnal equinox (where day and night are in balance).
Fixed Signs
The fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius follow after the tropical and equinoctial signs.
These are the signs during the mid-season period of the year.
Here the weather is milder, stable, agreeable and less prone to extremes of heat or cold.
Bicorporeal Signs
Bicorporeal is the old name for mutable signs. Bi means two and corporeal means of the body.
These signs are depicted by symbols of two animals they are known as the dual signs.
For Virgo, it is the image of the maiden (who may be pregnant? Hmm, I’ll have to think about this).
The representation for Sagittarius is the centaur shown with the body of a horse and the head and torso of a man.
The last sign Pisces is the two fish tethered and swimming in opposite directions.
If you are a Mercurial type you may find it interesting to know these older terms but in contemporary astrology, they are probably relegated to the tricky words found in an astrology crossword puzzle.
