7 Days to A Better Chart Reading: Email Course

Strengthen your astrological skills in one focused week

This e-course is in BETA testing until December 31st.

Please do sign up but know that things may change. Alison

A Gentle Structure

Steady Progress

My 7-Days to a Better Chart Reading e-course gives you a simple rhythm to follow each day so you can regain confidence in your chart work. Over seven days you will move through small practical steps that guide you back to a clear grounded approach to birth chart reading. By the end of the week, you will feel more settled and ready to offer your best work to your clients or friends.

Natal Chart

The focus is on the natal chart because this is where every strong reading begins. You will not explore every fine detail and that is never the intention.

Instead, you will learn to notice the key building blocks that shape a life story.

By the end of the week, you will understand how the main chart factors come together and you will feel more confident in your own voice as an astrologer.

Who This Email Course Is For

For People Learning to Read Charts

This course is designed for anyone who wants to strengthen their chart reading and bring calm focus to what truly matters. If you are learning astrology and trying to make sense of how a chart comes together this e-course will guide you step by step.

For Aspiring Astrologers

If you see yourself as an aspiring astrologer someone eager to grow your understanding of natal charts you will find this week helpful. The lessons highlight the major themes first so you can anchor your readings in the larger picture before you move into finer points.

Anyone Overwhelmed by Chart Details

Every detail has its place yet you do not need to lose yourself in the tiny features of a chart.

Many new readers get swamped by all the pieces and lose sight of the story they are trying to tell. This e-course helps you stay centered on the essentials so you can work with clarity ease and a growing sense of trust in your own process.

Anyone With a Little Astrology

This course is designed for people who already know a little astrology.

You might be familiar with the glyphs, the basic chart structure or a few of the core ideas. If you have that foundation and you are ready to build real skill and confidence then this course will meet you right where you are.

My aim is to help you move from early understanding to practical chart reading with clarity and ease.

Not for Total Beginners

Brand New to Astrology?

I want you to feel supported and I also want to be upfront, so you know exactly what to expect.

If you are brand new to astrology and have never read a chart before this e-course will feel too advanced.

I don’t want you to feel lost or discouraged.

What you Get

Resources

When you join my 7 Days to Better Chart Reading e-course over the time of one week you will receive a small bundle of resources to help and support you from the very start.

  • A welcome email that arrives right away so you know exactly how to begin
  • Helpful printable keyword sheets for the main chart components covering planets, signs, houses and aspects so you can keep the essentials close at hand

  • A fresh daily lesson for the next seven days which guides you through each step at an easy pace

  • A printable chart interpretation worksheet to help you organize your thoughts and keep your readings clear

These resources work together to keep you focused, steady and moving forward as you learn.

What This E-course is Not

Setting Gentle Limits

This course is designed to bring focus to your chart reading, but it is not meant to teach every single thing in of astrology.

No one can learn all there is to know about birth chart interpretation in seven days.

What I can offer is a steady plan that helps you read charts with more clarity, confidence and purpose.

  • This is not a full or all-inclusive chart interpretation program
  • It does not list every cookbook style placement for each planet sign or house

Instead, you learn how to work with the core building blocks that truly shape a reading. The aim is to help you become a more centered and productive chart reader without the overwhelm.

Course Outline

Build Skills

Here is the flow of the week so you know what to expect. Each day builds gently on the last and gives you one or two clear tasks to help you grow your confidence and skill.

Day 1: Cast the Chart

You learn how to set up the natal chart with care so you begin on steady ground.

Day 2: Balances and Strengths

You explore the basic balances that shape temperament and learn to notice natural strengths.

Day 3: Ascendant and Chart Ruler

You meet the doorway of the chart and discover how the chart ruler sets the tone.

Day 4: The Luminaries

You focus on the Sun and Moon and how they speak to wants, needs and core vitality.

Day 5: Chart Emphases

You study the main clusters and themes so you can see where the life energy gathers.

Day 6: Major Aspects and Patterns

You look at the main aspects and the larger patterns that show cohesion, motivation and flow.

Wheel of the Year “Quack-Quack”

What is a Quack-Quack?

A “quack-quack” is a folded paper artwork (like origami) which you can use for many things. Typically, it is played to find yes/no answers or “he loves me, he loves me not” as a game.

Quack-quacks may have a better name, but when my kids were growing up, we called them quack-quacks because as you move them looks like little birds’ beaks opening and closing, thus the duck sound of quack-quack.

You can call them what you like and do let me know if you have a better name. In the meantime, I’ll continue to call them quack-quacks.

What You Do

Download

Download the Quack-Quack template below.

wheel-of-the-year-quack-quack

Print

Print out the full color page. You can make as many as you wish. You can also make it larger if you have bigger paper.

Cut Out

Carefully cut the full square diagram out. Try to keep the edges super sharp and square.

Folding Tips

As you make each fold be careful to keep the folds sharp. You can use a bone folder to help with this part.

When folding point into the middle, try to line it up exactly to keep the shape.

Fold

With the image facing down, fold the paper in half vertically then open.

Fold in half horizontally then open.

Still facing down, fold each corner into the centerfold crosshairs. This makes a smaller square.

Flip it over, colored side up.

Now fold each corner into the middle.

Gently open the four corners and place you thumbs and forefingers from both hands up into the little pockets.

Make it quack by opening and closing your fingers.

Wheel of the Year Festivals Summary

The Wheel of the Year is a modern pagan calendar that marks eight festivals, also known as Sabbats, celebrated by many Wiccans, Neo-Pagans, and other Earth-centered spiritual traditions. These festivals are tied to the cycles of the sun and the changing seasons.

Yule (Winter Solstice)

°Around December 21st, Yule marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. It celebrates the rebirth of the sun and the return of longer days. Traditions include lighting candles and fires, decorating with evergreens, and feasting.

Imbolc (Candlemas)

Around February 1st or 2nd, Imbolc signifies the midpoint between winter and spring. It is a time of purification and light, often associated with the goddess Brigid. People celebrate with candles, fire rituals, and early spring cleaning.

Ostara (Spring Equinox)

Around March 21st, Ostara represents balance, as day and night are of equal length. It celebrates the awakening of the earth and new beginnings. Traditions include planting seeds, decorating eggs, and celebrating fertility and growth.

Beltane (May Day)

Around May 1st, Beltane marks the peak of spring and the beginning of summer. It is a festival of fire and fertility, celebrating life and passion. Customs include dancing around the maypole, jumping over bonfires, and adorning with flowers.

  • More on BELTANE

Litha (Summer Solstice)

Around June 21st, Litha is the longest day of the year. It celebrates the power and strength of the sun at its zenith. Celebrations often involve bonfires, feasting, and connecting with nature.

Lammas (Lughnasadh)

Around August 1st, Lammas is the first harvest festival, marking the gathering of the first grains and fruits. It is a time of gratitude and abundance. Traditions include baking bread, holding feasts, and making corn dollies.

Mabon (Autumn Equinox)

Around September 21st, Mabon is another time of balance, with equal day and night. It is the second harvest festival, celebrating the fruits of the earth and giving thanks. Activities include feasting, sharing the harvest, and preparing for the colder months.

Samhain (Halloween)

Around October 31st, Samhain marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. It is considered the pagan New Year and a time when the veil between the worlds is thin. Traditions include honoring ancestors, lighting candles, and sharing stories of the past.

These festivals offer a way to connect with nature, the changing seasons, and the cycles of life, encouraging mindfulness and gratitude throughout the year.

Getting Started in Astrology

Getting Started in Astrology

Getting Started in Learning Astrology

How It All Begins

In this post we’re going to give you some tips on how to get started in astrology.

This was a question from one of our super fans and I believe it will be of value to you as well.

Usually you read your Sun sign column.

Next you begin to dig a little deeper into chart readings.

Perhaps you have a friend who has had an astrology consultation and they say you should too.

The next step is usually to go and have a reading and suddenly you are hooked.

Astrology starts to creep into your mind at all times and you want to know more.

Let’s look at some steps you can take to learn astrology for yourself.

Podcast Episode

Listen to the full conversation at the Starzology Astrology Podcast around Getting Started in Astrology with Alison and Arwynne.

Get Your Chart

First of all you need a good copy of your birth chart.

This means that:

  • The house system should be Placidus.
  • The aspect orbs should be standard.
  • The planets should be the usual ones – Sun to Pluto.
  • The lunar nodes should be true.
  • The zodiac should be Tropical.

If you start with a different house system you can still read the chart.

Be aware of the actual house system for which the chart is set.

Orbs

Next check the aspect orbs.

Standard orbs are 8 for conjunctions, oppositions, trines and squares and 4 for sextiles.

Then 2 degrees for lesser used aspects of semi-square, sesquiquadrate, semi-sextile and quincunx.

Planets

You need the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

I also add Chiron and sometimes Eris but not the asteroids.

You can add more planets later. But we are just starting out.

You can cast a chart with online astrology sites but I don’t recommend them.

Astrology Software

If you are serious about learning astrology you need some chart calculation software.

To my mind there are two options

Solar Fire for PC and Astro Gold for Apple.

Astro Gold

Astro Gold is an iOS app that works on iPhone and iPad and separately Mac computers.

Personally, I have the app and use it on my iPhone and iPad.

I’ve not got to the stage of having Astro Gold on my MacBook Pro. There doesn’t seem to be a good reason.

Solar Fire

Probably the most robust astrology program is Solar Fire for PC it has been around for about twenty years and does it all.

I use Solar Fire for Graphic Ephemeris calculations, harmonic charts and forecasting date generation.

It is excellent if a bit clunky.

You do not need Solar Fire when you start out.

Astrology Books to Start

Here I’m going to recommend five astrology books to start your astrology bookshelf.

These books are solid and have reliable content.

You can get other books at a later stage and in fact you will probably continue to buy astrology books for the rest of your life like I do.

Ephemeris

The first book I’m recommending is an Ephemeris.

Get The American Ephemeris at midnight by Neil Pottenger and Rique Pottenger. it’s the one with the purple cover.

You will use this book to track the transiting planets movements and get information on retrograde cycles, eclipses, ingresses. and much more.

I use my Ephemeris every day as a consulting astrologer.

The Contemporary Astrologer’s Handbook

The Contemporary Astrologer’s Handbook by Sue Tompkins is the best astrology book in my opinion to get you started.

It contains lots about each planet, sign, house and aspect.

Practical Astrology

Practical Astrology by Priscilla Costello is a slim volume but contains core information about signs, planets and house systems.

It is a cook book style astrology book.

Meaning it has Jupiter in the signs and Jupiter in the houses and for all planets.

Aspects in Astrology

Aspects in Astrology by Sue Tompkins.

This book is a window into where many of the modern astrological techniques come from.

6th Book: Tetrabiblos

Tetrabiblos by Claudius Ptolemy.

This book was written over two thousand years ago and shines a light onto the priciples that modern astrology is based.

Back then, before telescopes, they only knew of the seven visible planets.

7th Book: The Aspiring Astrologer

If you want to get a feel for the classes I teach then I recommend getting The Aspiring Astrologer: 52 Self-paced Astrology Classes

This book has all the class notes I give to my private one-on-one students.

It does not go deep into signs, planets, houses or aspects, but rather covers what to do with the information in a chart.

I mention this book because it is at the core of my astrology business.

Classes, Conferences and Retreats

Local Astrology Groups

Join your local astrology group in your city.

If there is not one then start one.

Invite a couple of people around to your place for coffee and start an astrology group.

Astrology Retreats

An astrology retreat is a treat in itself.

There are several ones around which are regional.

I have heard great reviews from attendees of Stephen Forrest’s Astrology Retreat in Sedona Arizona, USA.

This is a week-long immersion event where you get to mix and mingle with people on their own astrological journey.

To help you decide if this is for you, I’ve put the link right here.

Please note, this retreat focusses on evolutionary astrology.

Astrology Conferences

The best conference to attend is the annual Summer School from the Faculty of Astrological Studies in Oxford, England.

Each year they offer a ten day long program at Summer School at Oxford University, England.

World Class Astrological Diploma

The Faculty of Astrological Studies Diploma.

The Faculty Diploma contains 9 Modules.

Each module can take up to six months to complete.

Certificate

You complete Modules 1, 2 and 3 then take the Certificate exam.

Intermediate Diploma

Then you complete Modules 4, 5 and 6 and then take the Intermediate Diploma Exam.

Final Diploma

Then you take Modules 7, 8 and 9 and then take the Final Diploma exam.

This is rigorous astrological training but it is, I believe, the best in the world at the moment.

Who This Is For

This full diploma course is not for everyone.

However, if you are serious about astrology then do consider the amazing training you will get at the Faculty of Astrological Studies.

So this is my advice for anyone wanting to get started in astrology.

Your Astrology Holy Trinity and Polarity

Your Astrology Holy Trinity and Polarity

Your Astrological Holy Trinity and Polarity

This article will show you what next two steps to take after you know what is your Sun sign. A way to learn astrology.

If you believe your Sun sign is not enough then this is for you.

Sun Sign

Perhaps you already know your Sun sign. It could be Aries, Cancer or Virgo etc. Your Sun sign depends on the date of your birthday. It is the zodiac sign which the Sun was in at the time and day you were born.

Everyone’s Sun sign is the easiest thing to know in astrology.

You will know your own, and your family’s birthdates, and probably your close friend’s birthdays as well. It is a simple step to ascertain everybody’s Sun sign.

The Sun sign is the first nugget of information that all people know about astrology but, after that, what should you learn next?

Ascendant Sign

The second thing you need to learn is your Ascendant sign. This is likely to be different to your Sun sign although it could be the identical.

You will only know your Ascendant sign if you cast your chart.

Moon Sign

The third fact you need to discover is your Moon sign. Again, you will have to cast your chart to find this out.

Your Moon sign is likely to be in a different sign both to your Sun sign and even to your Ascendant sign, but it could be the same.

Where to Get Your Birth Chart

If you do not yet have a copy of your birth chart, there are three pieces of information that you will need.

  • Your birth time
  • Your birth date
  • Your birth place (the city and country)

For quick information go here to calculate your chart.

The Holy Trinity

These three pieces of astrological information, your Ascendant sign, your Sun sign, and your Moon sign, are known as the holy trinity, the triad or the triumvirate of your chart.

They are always listed in this order of importance; Ascendant, Sun, Moon (and yes, your ascendant is more important than your Sun).

If you are an aspiring astrologer, and if you attend an astrology conference, you will be given a badge with your name. There will be a space for you to write the three main parts of your chart listed on it, your Ascendant, your Sun, and your Moon.

For example, my top three or Holy Trinity would be listed as; Leo, Leo, Scorpio. This is because my Ascendant is in Leo, my Sun is in Leo, and my Moon is in Scorpio.

Your Ascendant, Sun, and Moon can each be in any one of the twelve zodiac signs.

Combinations

Let us have a quick look at the numbers.

The Ascendant has the possibility of being in any one of the twelve signs, the Sun has the possibility of being in any one of the twelve signs, and the Moon has the possibility of being in any one of the twelve signs.

Therefore, 12 × 12 × 12 = 1728 possible combinations of Ascendant, Sun, and Moon.

This detail is huge and speaks to the complexities that can be found within an astrology chart, but there is a simpler way.

Polarity

In astrology there are two polarities active and passive. They can also be referred to as masculine or feminine, or positive (+) or negative (-).

The twelve zodiac signs are either in one polarity or the other.

The active signs are; Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius. The passive signs are; Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Let’s look at some examples of polarity.

If you have your Ascendant in Aries, your Sun in Virgo and your Moon in Pisces your polarity converts to: active, passive, passive or (+, -, -).

If you have an Aquarius ascendant (+), your Sun is in Gemini (+), and your Moon is in Libra (+), you are active (+, +, +).

8 Combinations

In the scenario of active and passive signs, as regards to your chart’s holy trinity, there are only eight possible combinations.

The three are always listed in the sequence; Ascendant, Sun, Moon.

The ratio is always active:passive (+ : – ).

 + + +             3:0       100% active

 + + –              2:1       More active than passive.

 + – +             2:1       More active than passive.

 – + +              2:1       More active than passive.

 – – +                1:2       More passive than active.

 – + –                1:2       More passive than active.

 + – –                1:2       More passive than active.

  – – –                0:3       100% passive.

Some More Examples

Ascendant       Sun                  Moon

Libra               Gemini            Pisces               + + –

Aquarius         Sagittarius       Virgo               + + –

Leo                  Aries                Taurus            + + –

They are 216 possible combinations that are active, active, passive (+, +, -), but only eight possible combinations.

The use of polarity in the holy trinity of your chart is way to simplify what is a complex subject, astrology.

Spend some time analyzing your family’s and friends charts to see polarity at work.

Of course, there are many more interesting things about astrology charts that you could learn.

Aspiring Astrologer Activity

I love providing you with aspiring astrologer activities.

This initiative is similar to “next steps” and the activities give you some ideas on what to do with the information you have just gathered.

Step one:         Your Sun sign.

Step two:         Your Ascendant sign.

Step three:       Your Moon sign.

Step four:        Write your polarity combination (Ascendant, Sun, Moon).

Step five:        Holy trinity polarity (only eight possible combinations), (?, ?, ?).

Share and Learn Astrology

Share your polarity combination with us in this quick anonymous survey.

I will revisit this post every six months at the equinoxes.

The equinoxes occur twice a year the first equinox is around March 21st and the second equinox is around September 21st.

Have a prosperous day,

Alison ⭐️
