Planetary Aspects

I am continuing on with a series on the planet’s aspects which is part of a basic natal astrology reading series which I’m working on about the aspects of the planets.

Cornerstones

Aspects are one of the four cornerstones of chart readings, so this is something that you really would do first when you start to read charts.

Podcast

Saturn Aspects

In this week’s podcast episode Arwynne and I chat about Saturn’s aspects.

Saturn’s Aspects

Themes

In astrology, aspects to Saturn are significant because they reveal how we deal with responsibility, structure, time, discipline and life’s sometimes hard lessons. Saturn represents maturity, boundaries and playing the long game. When other planets aspect the ringed planet, they interact with this serious, grounding energy and can either support or challenge how we build our lives.

Why Saturn Aspects Matter

Saturn aspects show how we grow up

Saturn is the planet of life lessons and maturity. Aspects to Saturn describe how you handle growing pains, tough love and learning through experience. If Saturn is well-aspected (with trines and sextiles), you may have a healthy respect for rules, timelines, and commitment. If Saturn is under pressure (with oppositions and squares), you may have fears, delays, or a deep sense of inadequacy that needs time and effort to overcome.

Authority and Structure

Saturn represents all your authority figures like your parents, teachers, bosses and the government. Aspects to Saturn can show whether you respect these roles, rebel against them, or feel burdened by their expectations of you. They also indicate how you set your own boundaries and become your own authority.

Work Ethics and Career

In career astrology, Saturn aspects will suggest how persistent, reliable and focused you are over time and in the long run. Harmonious and easy going aspects aspects (like trines and sextiles) to Saturn may bring you steady ambition and success through hard work. Challenging aspects (like squares and oppositions) to your Saturn might denote your career blocks or heavy responsibilities early in life, but with perseverance, these very aspects when worked through, can lead to great mastery and recognition.

Resilience

When the Moon or Venus aspects Saturn, emotional expression may be cautious or guarded. These aspects can make you seem serious or reserved, but over time they often lead to deep loyalty and stability in relationships. Saturn teaches you that emotional growth requires patience and trust.

Saturn Returns

Saturn’s energy unfolds over time. The aspects to Saturn in your birth chart show how you’ll meet different stages of life, especially around your Saturn return at age 29–30 and again at your second Saturn return at age 58–60. These transiting Saturn conjunct Saturn aspects help to explain how prepared you are to handle transitions, long-term goals, and commitments.

Applying and Separating

You can also pay attention to aspects which are applying and separating as this will modify the meaning of the aspect.

The Five Ptolemaic Aspects to the Saturn

Natal Ptolemaic Aspects

When you start out with aspects, I suggest you only work on the five Ptolemaic aspects, which are the conjunction, the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. You can move on to the minor aspects later.

Saturn Conjunctions

(360°/1=360° or 0°)

Blending Energies

A conjunction to Saturn directly intensifies Saturn’s themes. The other planet which joins forces with Saturn takes on a more serious, mature tone. This can bring strong discipline, focus and patience, but it may also feel burdensome, heavy or restricted.

Example: Mercury conjunct Saturn might indicate you are a thoughtful and methodical communicator, but possibly shy or slow to speak up.

Life lesson: Learn to juggle seriousness with ease.

Saturn Oppositions

(360°/2=180°)

Tension and Balance

Saturn oppositions often bring external challenges. Planets in opposition to Saturn may represent people or situations that you think block or judge you. This can lead to self-doubt, but also helps develop awareness of boundaries and the need to find balance between freedom and responsibility.

Example: The Moon opposite Saturn might show emotional highs and lows, often tied to feeling unsupported perhaps by your parents, but with maturity, this leads to strong emotional control.

Life lesson: Learn to stand your ground and create your own stability.

Saturn Trines

(360°/3=120°)

Natural Ease

The trine to Saturn is a harmonious aspect that helps things flow more easily. It shows a mature, grounded approach to life and that you have a natural ability to take responsibility, set boundaries, master things or work toward long-term goals without too much struggle.

Example: The Sun trine Saturn may bring confidence that grows with time, a strong sense of purpose and respect from others.

Life lesson: Use your natural wisdom to guide others.

Saturn Squares

(360°/4=90°)

Challenge and Pressure

A square to Saturn often feels like a test. It can bring internal blockages, delays, or make you have feelings of not being good enough. These aspects also bring the greatest potential for growth, especially if you stick to your guns and learn resilience.

Example: Mars square Saturn, a very tough aspect. may show frustration when trying to take action, but with persistence, it can develop into strong willpower and endurance.

Life lesson: Learn to overcome obstacles and build your inner strength.

Saturn Sextiles

(360°/5=60°)

Supportive Opportunities

The sextile is a gentle, encouraging aspect related to your latent talents. Planets in sextile to Saturn work well together and offer opportunities for consistency through effort. You may have a natural ability to be responsible, plan well or build long-lasting results in the nature of the other planet.

Example: A Venus sextile Saturn aspect could suggest that you have a steady and loyal approach to love and money which is essential for a lasting marriage.

Life lesson: Take advantage of slow and steady progress.

Overarch

Time to Step Up

Aspects to Saturn are essential for understanding how we handle life’s challenges. They show where we need to grow up, take ownership, accept responsibility, stop blaming our parents and earn our rewards. While Saturn aspects may feel heavy at times, they are also the foundation of real achievement, wisdom and inner strength in your life. In your natal chart, Saturn aspects point to where long-term effort can lead to lasting success.

Moon Aspects

In this week’s podcast episode Arwynne and I chat about the Moon’s aspects.

The Five Ptolemaic Aspects to the Moon

Natal

In a birth chart, the Moon represents our emotional world. It reflects our feelings, instincts, memories and how we respond to others and situations on a gut level. The Moon shows our need for comfort, safety, caring and nurturing. It also speaks to the past through our roots, our mother and food or maternal caregivers and it shows how we internalize care.

Ptolemaic Aspects

The transiting Moon moves quickly through the wheel and changes signs about every two and a half days. This quick pace means the Moon will forms several aspects to other planets and each of these aspects shapes the emotional tone of your chart. If you focus on the five Ptolemaic aspects of the conjunction, opposition, trine, square and sextile you can get a solid framework for understanding the Moon’s dynamic role in your chart.

Moon Conjunctions

(360°/1=360° or 0°)

A conjunction blends the Moon’s emotional nature with the other planet’s energy. This can create a powerful emotional focus on that planet and what it represents.

Examples: The Moon conjunct Venus may bring deep sensitivity to love and beauty. The Moon conjunct Saturn might show a more reserved or cautious emotional nature.

Conjunctions tend to be neutral and can be harmonious or tense, depending on the planets involved, but they always intensify emotional awareness when the Moon is involved.

Moon Oppositions

(360°/2=180°)

Oppositions highlight polarities and external projections. When the Moon opposes another planet, you often seek that planet’s energy through others.

Example: The Moon opposite Uranus may indicate emotional need for freedom and excitement, but you may experience it through unpredictable relationships.

Oppositions show emotional lessons learned through interaction, contrast, projection and sometimes confrontation.

Moon Trines

(360°/3=120°)

A trine suggests ease and natural harmony. When the Moon trines another planet, the emotional flow is smooth and well-integrated.

Example: The Moon trine Neptune could bring emotional intuition and artistic ability. The Moon trine Jupiter adds generosity and faith to your emotional makeup.

Lunar trines show where emotions feel “right” and may come from past life experience or a strong family pattern.

Moon Squares

(360°/4=90°)

The square is a challenging aspect that stirs up internal dilemmas and tension. With the Moon involved, this often brings inner emotional friction or outer conflicts that help you grow.

Example: The Moon square Sun (as mentioned in our podcast) may show struggles between wants and needs or between identity and comfort.

These aspects can point to childhood dynamics that shape our emotional responses. While uncomfortable at times, squares give you, the chart-holder, drive and emotional resilience.

Moon Sextiles

(360°/5=60°)

Moon sextile aspects indicate there is room for opportunities for emotional growth through effort. It is a supportive aspect, the sextile, that suggests your emotions flow more easily when you choose to engage.

Example: A Moon sextile Mercury aspect can bring a natural talent for speaking or writing about feelings. Alternatively, the Moon sextile Mars might show quiet confidence and calm emotional courage.

In general, sextiles indicate inner resources and latent talents which you can develop.

Why the Moon Matters So Much

The Moon is your internal world and it shows you how you process your life’s ups and downs or ebbs and flows. Luna speaks to your daily moods, unconscious habits and what makes you feel secure. It influences how you bond, how you nurture others and how you want to be nurtured. In relationships, the Moon’s aspects show what you seek to feel emotionally fulfilled. In timing and forecasting, lunar movements and progressions can trigger key feelings and deep inner emotional shifts.

Where to Start

By understanding the Moon’s Ptolemaic aspects in a natal chart, you can gain deeper insight into how a person feels, reacts, responds and cares for themselves and others. Lunar aspects form the emotional soundtrack of your life. If you can tune into them, it may bless you with clarity, compassion and wisdom.

Sun Aspects

In this week’s podcast episode Arwynne and I chat about the Sun’s aspects.

The Five Ptolemaic Aspects to the Sun

Natal

In basic natal astrology, the Sun symbolizes your life force, vitality and sense of purpose. It’s the central energy of your birth chart and represents your identity, drive and the reason that you get up in the morning. When any planets form aspects to your Sun, they color your character and influence how you express your core self. These planetary connections, the solar aspects, help shape your motivation and show where and how you shine in the world.

Sun Conjunctions

(360°/1=360° or 0°)

A conjunction to the Sun blends the two planetary energies together. The Sun is already powerful, so any planet close by becomes supercharged. This aspect brings intensity and focus.

Example: If you have a Sun-Mercury conjunction, for instance, your thoughts and words are closely tied to your identity.

Example: A Sun-Mars conjunction adds drive, boldness and personal initiative.

Conjunctions to the Sun often mark key traits in your personality because they are so strongly felt.

Sun Oppositions

(360°/2=180°)

An opposition to the Sun brings awareness through reflection and relationship. These aspects often show up through other people and their responses to you.

Example: A Sun-Moon opposition (a Full Moon person) might indicate a tug-of-war between your head and your heart, or between your public self and your private needs.

Oppositions can feel like a push-pull dynamic through projection, but they also offer balance and the potential to integrate both ends of the spectrum.

Sun Trines

(360°/3=120°)

A trine to the Sun indicates a harmonious and flowing relationship between the two energies. It shows natural talents, self-confidence and ease of expression.

Example: A Sun-Jupiter trine often brings optimism and a broad outlook on life.

Example: A Sun-Neptune trine might gift you with artistic or musical abilities, sensitivity and vision.

Trines really don’t require much effort.

Sun Squares

(360°/4=90°)

Squares, the aspect of inner dilemmas, to the Sun create personal tension that pushes you to act. They show where you’ll face challenges in expressing your identity.

Example: A Sun-Saturn square might bring self-doubt or a slow path to confidence, but with effort, it can help you build strong inner discipline.

Squares can feel uncomfortable, but they’re often the reason we get up of the couch and get things done. They generate the friction needed for personal growth. Squares simply just work, but at times they can be so smooth that they go unnoticed or underused.

Sun Sextiles

(360°/5=60°)

A sextile to the Sun brings easy-flowing energy and creative opportunities. It’s a supportive, cooperative connection that urges you to grow your latent talents.

Example: With a Sun-Venus sextile, you may have a natural flair for art, charm or diplomacy.

These easy aspects show where things feel easier or where you are naturally drawn to develop yourself. Typically, sextiles are subtle but beneficial once engaged.

That Little Light of Yours

Working with the Sun’s aspects is something that every astrologer will do every time they look at a chart, and so should you. Understanding even the basic aspects between the Sun and the Moon, if there is one, can be extremely insightful when doing a chart reading. Your Sun shows your personal story of becoming yourself and owing your identity.

In your natal chart, all aspects to your Sun reveal how you build your identity and where your life energy naturally flows. Solar aspects are key to understanding your birth chart because they show how your core essence interacts with the rest of your planetary team. They are like the captain of your ship.

These important connections guide your confidence, purpose and personal journey. At Starzology, I always encourage aspiring astrologers to spend time with their own Sun’s aspects, because they give a deep insight into what drives you, your heart of hearts, where your strength lies and how you radiate that little light of yours into the world.

Pluto Aspects

This time, we’re taking a look at one of astrology’s most powerful (and often underestimated) forces: PlutoWhen Pluto makes aspects to other planets in a natal chart, it signals areas of deep transformation, personal empowerment and possibly soulful evolution. These connections, or aspects, reveal where we are challenged, where we ultimately will grow, and where our hidden strengths can be uncovered over time.

Pluto Links

There is likely to be some intense emotional healing, rebirth after setbacks, or uncovering inner power as Pluto aspects can shape a lifetime of renewal. In this article, I break down what it means when Pluto links up with the planets to help you better understand the subtle, but profound influence this cosmic force has in every chart. So, if you’re ready to explore themes of transformation, power and soul-deep insight, keep reading. Pluto may be small, but its message is mighty. Remember, dynamite comes in small packages.

Podcast

In this week’s podcast episode Arwynne and I chat about Pluto’s aspects. Listen to our Pluto Aspects podcast here.

Aspects to Pluto

Aspects to Pluto in a Natal Chart

Pluto’s energy in the birth chart is powerful, transformative and often subtle at first, but make no mistake, it can have a profound impact over time. When Pluto forms aspects to other planets or points in your chart, it shows where deep change, personal empowerment and psychological growth are most likely to occur.

Evolution

These aspects often reveal hidden strengths or unconscious patterns. Understanding them can help you, as an astrologer, identify areas where your client may evolve through their life’s challenges, crises or inner realizations.

What Pluto Aspects Bring

Themes

Pluto aspects bring a range of themes including:

  • Transformation and renewal
  • Power dynamics and control
  • Psychological insight and healing
  • Cycles of death and rebirth (symbolically speaking)
  • Obsession, intensity and inner strength

Types of Pluto Aspects

Neutral: Conjunctions

When Pluto is conjunct another planet, the two energies merge. The Pluto influence intensifies the other planet’s expression. The house becomes a focus as well. This is often a major signature in the chart, especially if it happens with a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars). The person may experience repeated cycles of death and rebirth in that area of life.

Hard: Squares and Oppositions

The hard, oppositions and squares are the challenging aspects. They can point to control issues, resistance to change, or emotional intensity that must be worked through somehow. They often involve outside forces that push the person to grow. These aspects can be difficult in youth but tend to bring strength and resilience later in life.

Soft: Trines and Sextiles

The soft aspects bring easier access to Pluto’s gifts. The person may have a natural ability to regenerate, transform or be able to go deep in the area where the aspect lands. These flowing connections often show an ability to navigate life’s ups and downs with inner strength.

Pluto in Aspect to the Planets

Sun and Pluto

When the Sun and Pluto are in aspect your identity is transformed through power, crisis or rebirth. A strong will and a desire for self-mastery are present in any chart with this combination.

Moon and Pluto

Typically, emotions run deep as the Moon contacts Pluto. There may be intense early experiences that shape emotional responses. Anticipate the potential for deep and sometimes painful emotional healing.

Mercury and Pluto

The pairing of Mercury and Pluto indicates that the person’s mind is probing and insightful. They may be a natural researcher or truth-seeker, drawn to what lies beneath the surface.

Venus and Pluto

Often love and values are intense when Venus and Pluto pair up. Relationships can be deeply transformative, sometimes obsessive, or possibly healing.

Mars and Pluto

These two planets, Mars and Pluto, draw together energy that is both driven and determined. The person whose chart this may have a powerful will and must learn to channel energy constructively.

Jupiter and Pluto

Expect some expansion through transformation themes in any chart with Jupiter and Pluto aspects. There may be a drive to influence others, a strong belief system or powerful personal growth.

Saturn and Pluto

This pairing suggests the person has deep endurance and the capacity to rebuild their life after setbacks. There is a theme of structure that meets transformation when Saturn aspects Pluto.

As An Astrologer…

Pluto and Upheaval

As an astrologer, pay attention to Pluto’s aspects as they will help you to identify where your client may go through significant internal upheavals in their lives. These dynamic Pluto aspects are often linked to karmic themes, soul-level evolution and hidden strengths which can emerge and bubble up over time. Although you might not start your client’s chart interpretation with Pluto, make sure not to overlook our favorite dwarf planet. In any chart, Pluto’s story is often one of the most profound ones.

Overarch

Cosmic Force

Pluto is one of those cosmic forces that’s hard to ignore. In a birth chart, its energy shows up through the aspects it makes with other planets and key points like the Ascendant, Midheaven and the Lunar Nodes.

Fathom Pluto

While Pluto might not be the first planet you focus on when reading a chart, it definitely deserves your attention. If you take the time to understand Pluto’s message it can offer deep insights and it’s a powerful tool for any astrologer.

Dig Deeper

If you’re not too familiar with Pluto and how it influences a chart, consider digging in deeper over the next few months. There’s so much to discover about this mysterious and transformative planet.

Quintiles: Aspects of the Fifth Harmonic

Quintiles: Aspects of the Fifth Harmonic

Author: Alison Price   –   Published: March 2025

Quintiles

Aspects of the Fifth Harmonic

By now you know when reading a chart there are four cornerstones to chart interpretation. The four cornerstones are the signs planets. Houses and aspects and whilst there are many things that can be said about signs, houses and planets, personally, I find the aspects to be the most interesting. The main reason aspects are interesting is because they’re different for everybody, even though I may have a Moon aspect to my Sun, and you may have a Moon aspect to your Sun, if the aspect is different, the combination of energies changes too. And not only that, but some aspects can be more important than others.

Another way of looking at aspect connections is through the lesser used aspects. I haven’t spoken about lesser use aspects much at all, but this time we’re going to be looking at the aspects of the 5th harmonic, which are the quintiles and the biquintiles. When these two aspects are in a chart they are typically coloured in turquoise.

Quintile Aspect Patterns

Quintile Fat and Thin Arrows

I also want to just point out that there are two specific quintile aspect patterns, not that we’re talking about them today, but just let me mention it in passing. You’ve got the quintile fat arrow, and you’ve got the quintile thin arrow. Both of which are triangular aspect patterns and I’ll be discussing those later on this year. So, let’s have a look at the fifth harmonic lesser used aspects of the quintiles and the biquintiles.

Unveiling Hidden Talents

Ptolemaic Aspects

In astrology, there are five well-known main Ptolemaic aspects and they are the conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares and sextiles. These are the basic aspects you start with. The standard orb I use for the Ptolemaic aspects is 8° degrees, except for the sextile (which is half of a trine), at 4° orb.

Minor Aspects

The four minor aspects are the semi-sextile and the quincunx (12 harmonic) and the semi-square and the sesquiquadrate (8th harmonic). In general, I use an orb of 2° for minor aspects.

Lesser-Used Aspects

But beyond these familiar planetary relationships lies a hidden gem – the quintile aspect (72°) and bi-quintile (144°) aspects. These aspects are formed by dividing the circle by 5. So the quintile is one fifth of a circle (360°/5 = 72°) and the biquintile is two fifths of a circle ((360°/5) x 2 = 144°). There are other lesser known, but still whole number angle degrees as well. The 5fifth harmonic aspects hold the key to creativity, intelligence and personal mastery. Not every chart will have quintiles but many do.

Creativity and Mastery

5th Harmonic

Both the quintile and biquintile belong to the 5th harmonic in astrology. This number is associated with creativity, invention and refinement. Unlike major aspects, which typically show life’s challenges and ease, quintiles represent the urge to create, innovate and express unique talents.

Genius

I view quintiles as markers of genius and as a sign of a person’s natural gifts, creative insights and their ability to shape reality in new and insightful ways. These five based aspects often appear in the charts of artists, scientists and innovators who have a unique approach to problem-solving or artistic expression.

Quintile Energy

Subtle

Unlike the dramatic energy of a conjunction or opposition, I believe that quintile energy is subtle and it operates beneath the surface, often manifesting as an innate ability rather than an external force. Those with tight quintiles may not even realize their gift until they actively develop and refine their skills. As an astrologer, it is you job to help your clients see the potential in their lives that is suggested by any quintiles in their charts. Usually, people are so obsessed with the issues brough forward by their squares and oppositions that they can’t even contemplate subtle quintile energy until you explain it to them.

Examples

  • A person with Mercury quintile Mars may have razor-sharp wit and mental agility, making them an excellent debater or writer.
  • Someone with Venus quintile Neptune may have an unusual artistic talent, creating beauty in ways other people wouldn’t think of.
  • Sun quintile Uranus could indicate a natural innovator and trendsetter and someone who thinks outside the box.

Unlike the trine which brings ease, quintiles require focused effort to fully activate them. It’s like having an innate ability to play the piano, but you still need practice to become a master pianist.

The Geometry of Genius

The Meaning of the Quintile

Quintiles are not just random angles, they are deeply connected to sacred geometry, that connect to the pentagram and the Fibonacci sequence.

Five

The quintile is part of the 5th harmonic. In numerology, 5 is the number of change, curiosity and exploration. This number is linked to the pentagram, an ancient symbol of balance, beauty and the harmony between the material and spiritual worlds.

Fibonacci

In nature, the Fibonacci sequence (which appears in flower petals, seashells and galaxies) often follows a fivefold pattern, showing the natural order and structure of creativity. This same energy flows through quintile aspects in astrology, that in a way can connect us to the deeper intelligence of the universe.

Quintile Themes

Golden Ratio

The Golden Ratio (1.618), which is also often called the Divine Proportion, is closely linked to quintiles. This ratio appears in art, architecture and nature to shape everything from the spirals of galaxies to the human face. Homes and building designed with the Golden Ratio are more pleasing to our eyes and we want to live and work on such buildings.

Proportion

Astrologically, people with strong quintile aspects may have an innate sense of proportion, harmony and order, whether in music, design, or problem-solving. They can see connections where others see chaos and this makes them natural innovators and visionaries.

Inner Brilliance

Many highly creative and intelligent people have prominent quintiles in their charts. While major aspects describe personality and life events, quintiles reveal how a person perhaps will channels their inner brilliance.

Leonardo da Vinci

Birth Data

10pm, April 15th, 1452, Vinci, Italy. Leonardo da Vinci has strong quintiles, highlighting his mastery of art, science, and engineering.

Moon Quintile Venus

Artistic Sensitivity and Emotional Harmony

This quintile suggests a deep emotional connection to beauty, art, and aestheticsRefined taste and intuitive artistic sense, allowing him to capture human expressions, movement, and natural details with remarkable fluidity. A natural ability to harmonize emotions with artistic expression, seen in his soft sfumato painting technique, which blends light and shadow seamlessly. A unique sensitivity to proportion and form, which contributed to the Mona Lisa’s enigmatic beauty and perfect symmetry.

Sun Bi-Quintile Neptune

Visionary Genius and Mystical Creativity

A highly imaginative and otherworldly mind, blending reality with fantasy and idealism. Mastery of light, shadow, and illusion—evident in his artistic techniques and futuristic inventions. A deep spiritual connection to knowledge, suggesting he saw his art and discoveries as a divine pursuit.  The ability to channel inspiration into tangible form, turning dreamlike visions into real innovations.

Sun Bi-Quintile Ascendant

Magnetic Presence and Unique Personal Expression

A commanding yet unconventional aura, setting him apart from his peers. The ability to express his identity in a highly refined and individualistic way, seen in his self-portraits and enigmatic personal style. An effortless ability to embody his creative ideals, making him an icon of artistic mastery and intellectual brilliance. A tendency to see himself as a creator of new worlds, shaping both art and science with his unique insights.

Uranus Quintile Midheaven (MC)

Radical Innovation and Revolutionary Thinking

Unorthodox career path—he was not just an artist but also an inventor, scientist, and engineer. A pioneering mind that constantly challenged conventions and sought groundbreaking discoveries. An ability to predict the future with ideas far ahead of his time (e.g., concepts for helicopters, tanks, and anatomical studies). Genius in blending art with science, which was unprecedented in the Renaissance era.

Mozart had strong, radiant personality which attracted patrons and audiences with ease. He had an ability to project his innate confidence and individuality, to make him a well-known public figure despite many personal struggles. As a diminutive person (5′ 4″), his presence and energy were seen as larger than life which was reflected in his music’s dramatic and captivating nature.

Mercury Bi-Quintile Mars

Lightning-Fast Musical Thought

Mozart had exceptional mental speed, that allowed him to compose music in his head way before he wrote it down. He had a sharp, witty communication style and was well known for his playful and cheeky personality. His precision and highly technical skill in both composing and performing complex pieces took people’s breath away and still does. Mercury biquintile Mars indicates the ability to juggle multiple musical ideas at once, to make his compositions layered and intricate.

Mars Quintile North Node

Driving Force Behind His Destiny

It is as though he was destined to push his relentless energy and fuel his creative journey. Perhaps there was a sense of urgency and purpose, because he knew he had limited time to create as he died so young at age 35. He set himself up as a natural leader in the music world, constantly setting trends rather than following them.

Mars Quintile Ascendant

Mozart Overarch

The Quintile Signature of a Musical Prodigy

Mozart’s numerous quintiles and biquintiles show a chart bursting with divine creativity, precision and technical masteryThese fifth harmonic aspects indicate that his musical ability was more than just talent—it was an innate, almost supernatural gift.

Nikola Tesla’s Quintiles

Visionary Genius

Nikola Tesla, one of history’s greatest inventors and visionaries, had a mind ahead of its time. His innovations in electricity, wireless energy and electromagnetism revolutionized modern technology. Astrologically, Tesla’s quintile and biquintile aspects highlight his innate genius, deep intuition and relentless pursuit of discovery. These aspects represent a highly creative, almost mystical approach to science and invention. Tesla wasn’t just an inventor; he was an artist of energy and physics.

Sun Quintile Pluto

The Power of Transformation and Obsessive Genius

It seems that Tesla possessed an intense inner drive, pushing himself beyond normal limits to achieve his scientific breakthroughs. The Sun quintile Pluto aspect represents a transformational force, allowing him to see hidden energies and forces at work in the universe. He had a magnetic, almost hypnotic personality, with a powerful presence that fascinated those around him. This aspect also suggests a solitary path, as Tesla often felt misunderstood, choosing innovation over personal relationships.

Sun Quintile Ascendant

Visionary Persona

Tesla had an unmistakable presence he was tall, lean and had an almost ethereal appearance that made him seem otherworldly. The Sun quintile Ascendant aspect reflects an innate confidence (Sun) in his mission, allowing him to stay true to his revolutionary ideas, even when facing skepticism (Ascendant). He lived in his own reality, caring little for convention or social norms. This made him as a misunderstood genius, yet also an uncompromising innovator. Tesla probably  saw himself as a messenger of higher knowledge and often claimed that his ideas came to him in flashes of divine insight.

Mercury Biquintile Chiron

The Wounded Genius and A Mind Wired for Invention

Mercury (thought, intellect) and Chiron (wounding, healing) linked by a biquintile suggest a mind that saw beyond ordinary human limits. Tesla’s ideas were ahead of his time, and they were often too advanced for the world to understand (even today) and a source of intellectual isolation and personal suffering. He could hold entire blueprints of his inventions in his mind, visualizing machines and mechanisms in perfect detail before building them. With a deep interest to energy and frequencies, Tesla believed that understanding vibrations (Chiron) was the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe.

Mars Biquintile Uranus

The Drive to Disrupt

Tesla had a restless, electric energy that fueled his relentless pursuit of discovery. Mars (action, energy) linked to Uranus (innovation, rebellion) through a biquintile suggests an unusual and groundbreaking approach to invention. Tesla was known for his bold, unconventional experiments, in which he often fearlessly performed daring electrical demonstrations to prove his theories. Remember that electricity was not fully understood at the time and his work with alternating current (AC) revolutionized electricity to challenge the dominance of Edison’s direct current (DC). This Mars biquintile Uranus aspect also hints at his rebellious streak and Tesla didn’t just want to improve the world; he wanted to completely revolutionize it.

Lesser-Used Aspects

As an astrologer, you will no doubt focus on the main five aspects for your clients work as indeed this is where things happen. Once you get to the second or third session with a client who chooses to go deeper with you, that is the time to draw on the quintiles and biquintiles. The fifth harmonic aspects may not be as widely discussed as other aspects, but their subtle influence is great. Quintiles whisper rather than shout, requiring us to pay attention to our innate talents and refine them with effort. Think about what your quintiles and biquintiles aspects have to whisper to you and the planets are involved. If you’ve ever felt an unexplainable pull toward a skill or creative pursuit, your quintile aspects might hold the answer.

Personally…

Personally, I love finding quintiles in someone’s chart. I feel as though this is the type of astrology I was born for, to bring awareness to everyday folk about their hidden, or latent, potentials and genius streaks as shown by their natal quintiles and biquintiles.

Sun Square Pluto in Transit

Today we’re going to be talking about a transit that happens twice a year, which is the Sun square Pluto. The Sun will be at 2° Taurus and Pluto is at 2° Aquarius and the aspect will be exact on April 21, 2024.

The key word for this transit is intensity. You might have ego conflicts with people, you might feel like you’re out of control, you might feel threatened by other people’s aggression or have power struggles with people in authority. You will have to put forth more effort than usual to avoid conflicts with other people because there transit brings an urge to dominate, control or abuse your power.

On the positive side you could try use it to assert your authority if you have not been in control of a certain situation and this may be a time where whether you want to or not you could assert yourself with success or not success depending on the situation this is a very intense emotional aspect that could trigger feelings of persecution, fear of death or losing control, feeling of being manipulated or spied on or dominated by other people fear of persecution, jealousy, addiction and abuse by other people. It’s a potentially very stressful aspect in this sense.

Because we’re dealing with the square and not the conjunction or even the opposition, the likelihood is that it would not go well if you try to assert your authority at this time. It is more likely that it would backfire so flying under the radar might be the best approach but you could definitely feel an intense need for control or the feeling of being out of control or overpowered at this time.

Sun in Taurus

Some keywords for Sun and Taurus in the natal chart include sensuality, stubbornness, earthiness, determination, appreciation of comfort and the good things in life, food, luxuries, leisure, financial security.

Many of our titans of Industry historically have had the sun in Taurus. It also has a correlation with the throat and a lot of people who have the sun in Taurus are well known for their beautiful, rich, soulful voices, including Orson Welles, Cher, Adele, Barbara Streisand, Al Pacino, Janet Jackson and George Clooney, etc.

Pluto in Aquarius

We’ve talked at length about Pluto in Aquarius already, you can find links to those episodes in the show notes. Briefly, it has to do with the transformative power of technology and innovation, AI, the use of technology in revolutionizing our daily lives, humanitarian uses of technology and the ability to use our ingenuity for the good of humanity, but also the control of people by technology.

Pluto often brings about a crisis in areas symbolized by the sign it’s in, like how the Pluto in Capricorn transit of 2008-2024 was marked by the financial crisis caused by the real estate bubble, the crumbling of institutions, suspicion of governments, high profile whistleblowers against powerful governments and corrupt businesses, etc.

Sun Square Pluto in the Natal Chart

When this aspect occurs in someone’s chart, power dynamics could be a big part of their personal narrative, beginning in childhood. These people are often drawn to the darker side of life, fascinated with issues of control, power dynamics, life and death, taboos, addiction and the occult.

They may have a desperate need to feel in control or a fear of being manipulated, intense emotions like paranoia, jealousy and compulsive competitiveness may lead them to destructive outbursts and intense conflicts with others.

One of the things about looking at celebrities as examples is that we’re usually going to see people who have used these energies for good and turned the negative potential around and use them in a positive way.

Since this aspect happens twice a year, it’s not uncommon, so we’ll also see examples of people who have absolutely not used it for good, including Joseph Mengele, and on the other end of the spectrum, JonBenet Ramsey.
