Your Astrology Business

This article is part of my “Your Astrology Business” category series, where I explore setting up and running a small astrology business for yourself.

Introduction

Astrology Business

In this post, I’m taking you behind the scenes of the Starzology Astrology Podcast. I’ll share how it all began, what inspired me to start it, and the creative process that brought it to life. You’ll also get a glimpse into the journey that led to its official launch two years ago and how it has evolved since then. Creating this podcast has been such a fun and rewarding experience for Arwynne and myself and I hope you enjoy reading about it as much as we enjoy creating it. Alison

Starzology Podcast: Day One

Idea

One morning back in April 2023 I had the ideas to do a podcast for Starzology. I’d been blogging for ages and teaching astrology for about ten years by then.

Podcast Host

I knew I wanted to get my podcast onto Apple Podcasts and onto Spotify. I’d never been to Spotify, but I did listen to one or two shows on Apple podcasts, and I knew I wanted to be there.

Then I discovered that I needed a podcast host as a home where my podcast could be.

A podcast host is where your RSS feed lives and they have more features to help you produce and promote your podcast. After a simple Google search, I found many podcast hosts. Hmmm.

I’m not someone who does vast research especially around tech topics, handbags maybe, but not tech. I thought back to when I’d purchased my camera for YouTube. I’d taken advice from Sean Cannell and I chose the Canon M50, simple, light and does the job.

I searched to see which company Sean of Think Media uses as his podcast host. It turned out to be Buzzsprout, whom I’d never heard of, so I signed up with them that morning, paid the monthly hosting fee and there it was.

That afternoon I recorded my first podcast episode.

This I did in iMovie which I was familiar with from my YouTube videos. I recorded myself chatting about the new podcast and how I’d started out in astrology back in the day. You can listen to my first episode.

I then edited out all the ums and ers and downloaded the file as an “audio only” MP3 file.

This was the very first episode which I uploaded to Buzzsprout. And my shiny new Starzology Astrology podcast was born.

Podcast Art

Next, I found out that I need some podcast art in a square 1:1 ratio image for the podcast. Reaching for my trusty iPad and Procreate I designed the yellow Starzology smiley face image as the podcast art and this too was uploaded.

Podcast Info

Finally, I entered the podcast information details, my name, email address, website and an “about me” piece to be displayed alongside the logo in Apple and Spotify.

Directories

Next, I realised that I had to push the Buzzsprout podcast feed to the directories of my choice. This is where it gets onto to Apple podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music and others, again, places that I’d never heard of.

I did the launch notification to the directories so my precious episode would be available for others to hear.

Eventually, not immediately, and only when they come around to pick it up.

As Dave says, see below, it’s like your episode is waiting at the bus stop and only when the mighty Apple podcast or Spotify bus deigns to come around does each episode get picked up, listed and available for the listeners

Starzology Podcast: Day Two

How We Met

Back in 2012, I relocated to Vancouver due to my husband job. I was looking to establish myself in my new city and in the first week I was here I attended the local astrology group meeting where they immediately asked me to be the president. I pondered this, waited for the New Moon, and then accepted. I was the president of that Vancouver astrology group for two years.

In the meantime, I launched an astrology Meetup in a coffee shop on the block next to my home. I advertised the event, duly arrived, bought my coffee and waited.

Eventually a woman arrived and we got chatting. I spoke a bit about the topic that I’d prepared and we nattered some more.

She introduced herself as Arwynne and at the end we left together.

We walked down the street in the same direction. We crossed the road at the same spot and then, amazingly in a city of 650 000 people, we entered the same building as each other.

“I live here” I said, “So do I” she said, we laughed, exchanged numbers and planned to meetup again.

First Axis Astrology Podcast

The next month as Arwynne and I were having coffee she said to me, “We should start a podcast” to which I responded, “What’s a podcast?”

You see back then in 2012, I’d no idea what a podcast was. I knew what YouTube was but not a podcast. Arwynne explained that she listens to astrology podcasts, and she thinks we should do our own one because we have so much to say about astrology.

We gave it some thought and recorded the first episode the next week upstairs in Arwynne’s apartment.

We cast an election chart for the launch episode and decided on the name, “Axis Astrology” as a nod to the Ascendant/ Descendant axis and the MC/IC axis found in a chart.

Her partner played the guitar signature tune at the start of each recording, and he edited the episodes. All I had to do was pitch up and talk about the topic we had chosen. Simple.

Guests

We had guests like Joan Morton, Nina Gryphon and we even brought out Andrew Morton from the UK and had him on the show as well. I was able to draw in these guests because they were speakers whom I’d arranged to present at my Vancouver astrology group.

Our Axis Astrology podcast lived for about two years after which it just faded out. You can still listen to all the episodes on Arwynne’s website.

Alison, Joan Morton and Arwynne

2023

Back to Starzology podcast: Day 2.

After I’d recorded, edited and uploaded my first edition of the Starzology astrology podcast in April 2023, it occurred to me to invite Arwynne to join in.

I messaged her that I’d begun another podcast, and would she be interested? She immediately stepped up and said yes.

Back to Buzzsprout, where I uploaded both our full color promo headshots, listed Arwynne as co-host and me as the owner/host both with our mini bios.

We were in business. Exciting!

Starzology Podcast: Week 2

Cadence

We decided to publish a weekly episode every Sunday as that is the Sun’s Day and I’m a Leo and Leo is ruled by the Sun. Also, the Sun is the most prominent planet in my birth chart, and Arwynne has a Leo MC, so it all made sense.

Episode 2

Our second episode was me interviewing and introducing Arwynne so everyone would know who she was and what her astrological interests were. I was still recording on iMovie and then extracting the audio only. The audio was a bit rough. What did I know? Not much it seems.

Starzology Podcast: Month 2

Podcaster

As now I considered myself as a podcaster I started to listen to podcasts about podcasting. I thought I’d get some tips about how to podcast.

Dave Jackson

Immediately I discovered the School of Podcasting with Dave Jackson. I listened to a few of his episodes about the art of podcasting.

I even participated on one of his question-and-answer sessions with my answer which was really weak in retrospect.

The question was something like, “What tools do you use to create you podcasts?” my answer was, “I use Buzzsprout” not realizing that he was asking about editors, baffles, sound modifier, mixers and microphones and so on whereas I’d said my host, Buzzsprout. Anyway…

I continued to listen to his episodes, and had to Google the word “reverb” which turns out is something about sound quality, it was all much of a mystery to me.

Finally, I got my Rode Podcaster (yes, that’s its name) microphone tweaked for better audio quality. There is a dial on the side which does something. I though a microphone was like a kettle, and you just plugged it in. Who knew?

Again, I’m not that interested in tech stuff, but I got the mic to record at a warmer level. Y-a-w-n.

To this day I still listen to Dave’s show, and Dave and Jim’s other show as well.

I’ve gone back to the beginning, he is at more than 1000 episodes now, and I’ve listened to them all over the past two and a half years. Most topics I understand, some I’m not sure what he’s talking about and some I’ve got no clue, but we press on…

There are other podcasts about podcasting by other people, but Dave had me when he spoke about Lotus 1-2-3 and if you know what Lotus 1-2-3 is then you know.

It was at this time that I was clued in and started to record the audio with Audible and leave iMovie behind.

Starzology Podcast: Year 1

Step Up

In the first year we stepped up the frequency of the publication of each episode. Whereas we had started a once-a-week on a Sunday we decide to step it up to twice a week and add in a Wednesday edition.

The main Sunday episode was the crore astrology with specific topics to help you learn astrology. The Wednesday editions were where both Arwynne and I hosted our own guests and discussed astro topics which interested us more personally and were not so educationally focussed.

I did a few more interviews of professional astrologers and a various opinion pieces.

Arwynne recorded several episodes with her friend Katia which were so good.

We were twice a week for about six months, but we finally stepped it back because of the workload that it created.

Editing

With two episodes each week, I was doing the editing, it was a lot.

For every hour you record there is the same amount of time spent on editing that episode.

Additionally, there is a blog post for every episode that must be set up with hashtags, links and original images, mainly drawn by me, to support the topic being discussed.

There are links to Amazon books and products and references to other people website and so on.

The background work to produce a podcast is quite substantial.

It looks like you just record, and press publish, but in reality, and if you want to create a quality product which I do, you have to invest several hours into each episode.

Costs

With your podcast host you pay for each hour that gets uploaded.

If you have two hours a month you pay one amount and for every hour above that there is a cost associated with it.

Even partial hours like five minutes into an hour you are on the hook for the full hour.

Step Down

After about six months we stepped down the frequency of our publications back to once a week on a Sunday.

This is more manageable for me, and it gives our listeners time to get to the latest episode before the next one is out. Not everyone listens on the day the episode goes live. Some people will catch up later in the week with their listening of our content.

50th Episode

We celebrated our 50th episode with a slap-up dinner at the Hilton hotel in Vancouver. Thanks to our host Rodger. At the time we couldn’t believe just how far we had come in our podcasting journey.

Alison-arwynne-at-dinner

Starzology Podcast: Year 2

100th Episode

We celebrated the recording of out 100th episode with a dinner and drinks at our local pub. We were joined by Arwynne’s partner, Katia, her husband, friends and listeners who had supported us over the time.

One hundred seemed such a huge number and we asked ourselves, “How had we done it?”

Katia-arwynne-and-alison

Starzology Podcast: Recording Day

Planning

This is how each episode get done.

Each topic gets onto the calendar about two to three months ahead of time. We both pose ideas about astrology subjects which we want to talk about. Approved titles get onto our joint calendar that we can both see.

In the calendar there is a recording date and a Sunday publishing date.

Recording Day

We usually record every second Monday evening from 6pm until about 8-9pm. It depends on how the recording goes.

Most episodes are between 30 to 45 minutes with one or two breaking the one-hour mark.

Sometimes we move the recording day to the week before or the Tuesday after, when life gets in the way.

Prep

Before recording day, I prepare the blog post associated with the topic. I flesh out the content and make sure I get to say everything that needs to be said.

Often this is just bullet points as a guide for the episode.

I don’t full script the content but rather leave it a bit loosey-goosey to see what unfolds.

I’ll typically create the art for the podcast episode itself in the yellow and I’ll draw a fresh image of the actual topic for the blog post.

I’ll cast any charts we need to reference in the discussion.

Arwynne prepares for the recording with her research and by searching for charts and books to mention as well.

Studio Setup

Our podcast studio is at the table in my open plan lounge in my apartment. We have a view over-looking the city of Vancouver.

The studio setup happens on Monday morning. I have a selection of tablecloths and change them depending on the season. I like to have some seasonal decoration or a plant and candle on the table as well.

There is no ceiling light. I get the microphone out and plug it into my computer. I run an extension cord to power to the table lamp, computer and iPad placed on the table.

I bring out jotters and pens to make notes. I have my physical content calendar to hand so we can discuss what’s coming up in the next few weeks and so on.

Leaving a clear space at the end of the table means that Arwynne has room for her computer, note\books, phone, pens and her tray.

starzology-podcast-studio

Podcast Snacks

On separate trays for each of us I set up two or three little bowls of snacks.

There is usually some chips and dips or mini tomatoes, grapes, cherries or cheese cubes as nibbles. If the crisps are too hard and crunchy we can’t record when we are chomping away as the noise gets picked up by the microphone.

There is some water chilling in the fridge for us both and we also enjoy a glass of South African red wine.

Sometimes I vacuum.

Getting Started

Arwynne arrives at 6pm sharp. We get settled at the table, chat a little about our lives and then get stuck into the recording. Each episode takes about an hour to record and there are stops and starts as we gather our thoughts. We record two episodes at once with a five-minute break in between to replenish glasses and munch and muse some more.

I can always rely on Arwynne for her trademark tangent anecdotes to enhance the topic which add interest to each episode.

Podcast: Today

Bicentennial Episode

After over thirty months of creating the Starzology Astrology podcast Arwynne and I are about to record our 200th episode. This bicentennial one will go out the first week in January 2026 which is almost three years since we began (for the second time).

Celebration Event

Arwynne and I are having celebratory drinks (for your own account) at a venue in downtown Vancouver.

This event is on Monday, December 15th, 2025 from Happy Hour staring at 4pm until 7pm of later.

If you are in the city and would love to join us to help us commemorate our bicentenary episode, please let me know. starzology@gmail,.com

Start Chart

In astrology, and election chart is a chart chose for the best time to do something. This then becomes your venture’s start chart.

Fortunately for the start of the Starzology Astrology podcast the start chart is a great one. You can see it below and read more about it.

Overarch

For You

I started the Starzology Astrology Podcast in April 2023 as a new way to share my love of astrology with you and Arwynne soon to joined me as co-host. It felt so natural for us to team up again.

Together we’ve grown the show into a weekly Sunday feature with interviews and deep astrology discussions. Over the two and a half years, we’ve celebrated milestones like our 50th and 100th episodes and now look forward to our 200th in early 2026.

I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing our story and this behind-the-scenes look at how it all began.

If you are thinking about starting a podcast, I urge you to just do it, because if I can, you definitely can.

Fixed Stars

Michael Barwick

Last month I had a fabulous conversation with my longtime friend and astrologer Michael Barwick.

If you are looking for a different type of astrology reading than the norm, then consider investing in a Star Profile reading with Michael.

In his Toronto astrology practice, he specializes in providing Star Profile consultations which explore your chart through the lens of Fixed Stars.

I’m happy to share Michael’s intriguing insights into Fixed Stars in this podcast episode

Micheal-barwick

More of Fixed Stars

Once you’ve listened to the podcast episode I thought I’d share some further work I’ve been doing on Fixed Stars in general and in my astrology journal.

Over time I’ll separate out each Fixed Star to its own post/page.

I’m getting deeper with one special fixed star which is in Taurus, Aldebaran.

I’ll give you some idea of the types of meaning this star may have if it is closely conjoins your angles or visible planets.

Fixed Stars Definition

In astrology, “Fixed Stars” are the stars that appear in the night sky. While they’re called “Fixed,” these stars are in motion, just like everything else in the universe.

However, their movement is so slow that they seem to stay in relatively the same position over long periods of time.

These stars have been observed and studied for centuries because of their dynamic influence in interpretations and predictions.

Even though Fixed Stars not truly “fixed”, their slow movement makes them a stable reference point in the night sky.

The 4 Seasons and Quadrants

The zodiac is split into four equal parts based on the positions of the equinoxes and solstices, which are key astronomical events.

Each of these four segments, or quadrants, is associated with a principal star.

These significant stars are collectively referred to as the Four Royal Stars of Persia.

They hold special importance because they mark the transition points between the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

The Four Royal Stars of Persia

Cardinal Points

Back in the day, the Four Royal Stars of Persia were positioned at the four cardinal points.  This was significant as they aligned the equinoxes and solstices.

Each of these stars held special importance and was revered for its unique qualities and symbolic meanings, but their positions have shifted over time.

This slow movement means that while the Four Royal Stars of Persia have moved from their original cardinal positions, their change in location is relatively minor.

Aldebaran (Alpha Taurus)

Associated with the Eye of the Bull, once aligned with zero degrees Gemini or Taurus.

Regulus (Alpha Leo)

Known as the Heart of the Lion.

Antares (Alpha Scorpio)

This star is the Heart of the Scorpion.

Fomalhaut (Alpha Pisces)

Placed at the Mouth of the Fish.

These important stars continue to hold significance as their influence extends beyond their original positions.

constellation-taurus

Fixed Star Aldebaran

Current Position

Aldebaran is in Taurus. It is the star in the Eye of the Bull.

Taurus

The sign of Taurus is known for its steadfast nature, practicality and appreciation for the finer things in life.

Taurus embodies the qualities of practicality, determination and sensuality.

With Aldebaran in Taurus, there’s an added layer of grace to the Bull’s grounding energy role.

This placement encourages us to cultivate patience, appreciate life’s pleasures and remain steadfast in our pursuits.

In general, Aldebaran represents a beacon of light and wisdom.

Visibility

Lying close to the ecliptic Aldebaran is visible from latitudes from 74° North to 74° South.

Mythology

In mythology, Aldebaran is often referred to as the “Watcher of the East.”

It symbolizes vigilance, protection and guidance.

The Greatest Star

Aldebaran is considered one of the brightest and most magnificent stars in the night sky

It holds a revered status of great significance.

Aldebaran Themes

Challenge of Integrity and Test of Honor

Aldebaran presents challenges related to integrity and honor.

It urges you to uphold your principles and be honest and authentic.

Energy and Short-lived Honor

This royal star gives you with dynamic energy and the potential for short-lived honor or recognition.

It encourages proactive action to seize opportunities.

Lack of Stability

Aldebaran may indicate periods of instability or change that challeng you to adapt, persevere and find inner balance when under external pressure.

Spring Equinox

Aldebaran’s association with the northern spring equinox symbolizes new beginnings, growth and the emergence of life’s vitality and potential.

Moral Dilemmas and Temptation to Compromise

Aldebaran’s influence presents you with moral dilemmas and temptations.

There is pressure that tests your resolve and commitment to your ethics.

This star urges thoughtful decision-making and resistance to compromise.

Extend Yourself

Considering Fixed Stars

In your astrology journal let’s set up a few pages…

  • At the top of four separate pages, write a heading for each of the four Royal Stars of Persia.
  • Dig around the web or books you may have and write five keywords for each star and write them on the relevant page.
  • Search some more and draw the shape of each of the four constellations.

Venus Square Chiron

Venus Square Chiron

Author: Arwynne O’Neill   –   Originally published: January 2024

Venus square Chiron

On February 5, 2024, Venus squares Chiron. Venus is going to be at 16° Capricorn and Chiron is at 16° Aries so this is a square in the cardinal signs.

We all pretty much know what Venus means; it’s the goddess of love, it’s about relationships, it’s about beauty, and it’s also about money. But fewer people know what Chiron is.

Listen to podcast episode >>> Venus Square Chiron

Chiron

Chiron was a centaur in Greek mythology and in astrology it represents the wounded healer. So wherever you have Chiron in your chart — its sign placement and the house it’s in — is where you may experience a psychological wound that enables you to grow stronger in whatever area it symbolizes, and help others because of the pain that you’ve overcome in your own life.

We’ve done an entire episode on Chiron in Aries because that’s where I have Chiron. I am going to be having my Chiron return over the next year or so, which is an aspect everybody has around the age of 50. So if you want to know more about Chiron in Aries, you should definitely listen to that episode.

Listen >>> Chiron Returns

The Transit

When we have Venus Square Chiron, this can create a lot of inner tension that can be really painful for people. It can make you feel like you’re being emotionally abused, bullied or taken advantage of. It can make you feel trapped in your relationships or like you are being sabotaged. You can feel as though you want to help people but they just lash out at you and there can be a lot of self-criticism and overstepping of boundaries with this aspect.

If you’re in a relationship that has a lot of emotional conflict it could become heightened around this time, and if you are in a relationship where one of you has set yourself up as sort of the protector or the savior of the other, things could really become tense at this time.

Read more >>> Chiron

Read more >>> Square Aspect

Read more >>> Venus

Venus square Chiron in the Birth Chart

In the natal chart this aspect can create a lot of tension within a person’s relationships. They may continually attract or be attracted to people who are bad for them, emotionally damaged, emotionally unavailable and this can really hurt their self-esteem in a number of ways.

This is often because they think they can heal or save the other person and can they end up getting dragged down Into the depths themselves. They often romanticize romantic pain, which is also great for art but not a great approach to relationships in general, and they can feel inadequate, like they deserve criticism, or they can become addicted to emotional pain in relationships, at sort of the most extreme end of the spectrum.

Of course the reason we’re focusing on the negative is because with the square aspect you are really going to see more of the sort of the negative side than if they had, for example, Venus trine or sextile Chiron, which maybe would make them a great nurse or caregiver or something.

Artistic Outlets

Since Venus rules artistic pursuits, a lot of that pain can be used to create amazing music and art, which we often see with harsh Venus aspects but that doesn’t make it any more fun for the person with the aspect. They can be very sensitive to the opinions of others and they can go overboard in analyzing every little detail of their relationships, either criticizing the other person or trying to save the other person, or becoming enmeshed in bad habits and dangerous, toxic behaviors because they fall in love with either the wrong person or they find themselves attracted to that dark side.

Celebrities with Venus square Chiron

Angelina Jolie, Leonard Cohen, Arthur Rimbaud, Sinead O’Connor, George Michael, Russell Brand, Courtney Love, Joe Biden, Stanley Kubrick, Judy Garland, Chris Cornell, Bill Murray, Leo Tolstoy and Val Kilmer.

Saturn in Pisces: Limiting Beliefs

Saturn in Pisces

How Saturn’s Energy in Pisces will Manifest

The two-and-a-half-year transit of Saturn through Pisces from 2023 to 2025 will affect all Pisces folks as Saturn draws close and makes a conjunction to your natal Sun.

If will also affect anyone with other planets in Pisces or those people with a Pisces Ascendant or Pisces Midheaven.

To a lesser extent this dynamic energy shift will affect people with chart points, like the North or South Node, the Vertex or the Part of Fortune, in Pisces.

Saturn Transit Position

Only as Saturn moves to within 1°, both applying and separating to your Sun, planets or chart points in Pisces will there be a focus affect for you.

In general, it is not a two-and-a-half-year effect to your natal chart.

Transiting Saturn Conjoins North Node in Pisces

Listen to our podcast about transiting Saturn conjoining the North Node in Pisces in a guest chart.

Arwynne discusses the chart of her guest Sionnaine and how transiting Saturn stimulating her North Node in Pisces has unfolded in her life.

Saturn in Pisces: Video

Watch the video below where I chat with intergrative astrologer Christine Linwood about the transit of Saturn through Pisces.

Saturn in Pisces and Your Sun Sign

Saturn Aspects to Your Sun – Time Frame

While Saturn is in Pisces it will aspect every Sun sign and this will be different depending on the aspect being formed.

Some aspects are easy, some are challenging and some are neither.

Additionally, as Saturn moves quite slowly, its influence will only come into play when Saturn gets to be within one degree of the perfection of the aspect to your Sun.

Virgo Sun signs
