In this episode, Arwynne interviews astrologer Israel Ajose in a wide-ranging discussion, starting with his transition from professional boxing to a 24-year career in consulting and teaching. Israel talks about his interest in mythology and psychological astrology, influenced by teacher Liz Greene. He combines traditional, medieval, and psychological techniques in his practice. You can find him at Sacred Planets, where he teaches astrology and other divination arts like tarot and numerology.
From Boxing to Astrology: An Interview with Israel Ajose
In this episode of the Starzology Astrology Podcast, Arwynne spoke with UK-based astrologer Israel Ajose, who has been studying and practicing astrology for more than two decades.
Israel’s path to astrology is an unusual one, beginning as his career in boxing was coming to an end at the same time as he entered a profound period of personal transformation following the death of his mother in 1999.
Israel discovered astrology during this time, and ended up studying psychological with legendary astrologer Liz Greene. Her philosophy of lifelong learning became an important influence on him as well.
Over the years, Israel went on to study traditional, Hellenistic and medieval astrology along with psychological approaches, developing a practice that brings all many different perspectives together
From the Boxing Ring to the Birth Chart
Israel still calls on his experience as a boxer in his current life, saying it taught him the importance of discipline, preparation, anticipation and the dynamics between two opposing forces, all concepts that translate surprisingly well into the symbolism of astrology.
He uses boxing analogies when teaching his students, particularly when explaining squares and oppositions.
Just as a boxer needs to understand their own position as well as the movements of their opponent, a good astrologer teaches their students how to recognize all the different forces at work within their own birth chart as well as how they interact with the chart of another person, or with a transit chart.
Learning Astrology with Liz Greene
Israel’s formal astrological studies began in the early 2000s when he discovered a course with renowned psychological astrologer Liz Greene.
His studies helped establish his curiosity into a calling, and gave him something that has remained central to his approach; the idea that an astrologer should never stop learning.
In addition to psychological astrology, Israel explored many historical techniques, including Hellenistic, medieval, Egyptian, Babylonian and Islamic traditions.
He is interested in preserving and understanding older styles and combining them with a modern approach.
Traditional Astrology Meets Psychology
Rather than seeing traditional and modern astrology as competing systems, he finds value in bringing them together.
Traditional techniques offer insights into timing, circumstances and potential life events, while psychological astrology helps us explore how we experience and respond to those circumstances.
This led to an interesting discussion about fate and free will. Israel suggests that while some events or circumstances may be beyond our control, we always have agency in how we meet those challenges, interpret them and grow through them.
The Prenatal Lunation and UAC
We talked about Israel’s interest in the prenatal lunation, an older technique in traditional astrology that isn’t often discussed by contemporary practitioners.
Israel presented his research on the prenatal lunation at the United Astrology Conference (UAC) in Chicago in September 2026, where he explored its historical significance and its potential applications in areas including longevity and career prominence.
We talked about what the prenatal lunation is, why it was important to earlier astrologers, and what modern astrologers might discover by returning to some of these largely forgotten techniques.
Astrology as a Lifelong Practice
Throughout the conversation, Israel returned to the idea that astrology is about much more than prediction.
His interest in mythology and the work of Carl Jung are woven into the discussion, particularly the idea of archetypes and the unconscious.
Astrology for him is a meeting point between the symbolic world of mythology and the very personal experience of being human.
