A conjunction is an aspect where two or more planets are close to each other in a chart. It is probably one of the most powerful aspect you can find in a chart. In this article I’m going over some basic ideas about conjunctions and how to interpret them.

Conjunctions

Major Aspect

The conjunction is a major aspect and is also known as a Ptolemaic aspect. Two planets close to each other are conjoined. The orb for a conjunction is 8° only. This is a good placement for most planets as the two planets blend their energies and you can benefit from this blending of forces.

First Harmonic

Division Maths

To get a conjunction you take the chart or circle of 360° and divide it by one. The circle divided by one. 360°/1 = 360°

Sign and House

Usually, planets in conjunction will be in the same sign or house, but not always.

Disassociate Conjunctions

When a conjunction occurs over a sign boundary, the two planets are said to be in a disassociate conjunction also known as an “out of sign” conjunction.

For instance, if the Sun is at 29° Virgo and the Moon is at 4° Libra they are still conjoined, but in a disassociate conjunction.

Disassociate conjunctions are weaker than regular conjunctions.

Applying or Separating

Pressure

You also need to know if the aspect is applying or separating.

Multiple Conjunctions

Numerous

Also note that there can be more than one pair of conjunctions in any chart. Some charts will have no conjunctions, some charts will have one conjunction and others will have more than one conjunction.

Each pair of conjoined planets needs to be interpreted separately.

Conjunction Aspect Meaning

The conjunction is the most powerful aspect.

Blends

It inclines the two planets towards togetherness and blends their energies.

Synergy

The two planets virtually move as one and they have synergy. Synergy means that one plus one equals three. Each planet is indistinguishable from the other.

Close Proximity

They show the same face to the world. Because of their close proximity, it is hard for the first planet in the conjunction to clearly see the second planet and vice versa.

Conjunctions with Other Planets

Sun

Sun conjunctions add life to the other planet.

Moon

Moon conjunctions combine a reactive element to the other planet.

Mercury

Mercury conjunctions combine a learning element to the other planet and suggest what is spoken about.

Venus

Venus conjunctions show what is loved and invested in.

Mars

Mars conjunctions bring energy to the other planet.

Jupiter

Jupiter conjunctions expand the other planet.

Saturn

Saturn conjunctions restrict the other planet.

Uranus

Uranus conjunctions bring a unique element to the other planet.

Neptune

Neptune conjunctions dissolve the meaning of the other planet.

Pluto

Pluto conjunctions bring power and support to the other planet.

Multiple Conjunctions

Stelliums

When you get three or more planets within 8° it then becomes a major aspect pattern of the stellium.
