Pisces – A Gordian Knot of a Water Sign – Guest Post

Pisces Dates

(February 19 – March 20)

Duality lies at the core of this sensitive, fanciful sign. Firstly, occupying the watery realm of emotions brings immense potential to serve humanity, via a compassionate, fully empathetic stance. It is possible that no other sign “feels” for another sentient being more than a Pisces.  On the other side of the coin, a theme of inconstancy plagues Pisces, This can make it difficult for them to live a solid, grounded reality. Can such a lovely sign be practical? Many Pisceans combine the dreaminess of Neptune with more concrete skills; similar to its opposite sign, Virgo.

Famous Pisceans such as: Physicist Albert Einstein, Astronomer Percival Lowell and Composer Quincy Jones all display that magical combination of universal and emotional insight fused with pragmatic acumen.  Pisces has an air of alchemy and enchantment about them.  It flows through their veins…and they can intuit a plethora of knowledge about what is behind the scenes.

The essence of Pisces is non- conformity, escapism and a liking for all things mysterious and perhaps irrational. Its ruler, Neptune was the God of the Sea, holding a trident in an upwards direction. This signifies the Pisces nature wanting to break free from restrictive, mundane matters and strive to enter the world of spiritual matters.  An enigmatic sign, Pisces is forever searching for a watery stream that will bring emotional fulfillment.

Pisces have a strongly emotional and chameleonic aura (not to be confused with the tricky, mental changeability of Gemini). Being soulful and very much a sponge, they absorb the energies of their immediate environment. They often need (and like) alone time to recharge their batteries.

Traditionally, Pisces is known as “weak-willed”. This has some truth in its symbology. The symbol of two fish swimming in opposite directions indicates a flight sort of response, rather than fight. However, more than any other sign in the Zodiac; Pisces will take on the flavor of the signs positioned in their Natal Chart.

In regards to Modern Astrology, it should be noted that when you visualize the vast, deep oceanic power of water; all is possible. Pisces have subtle, hidden power inside their very core. Therein lies the potential of the two fish swimming (one upstream, the other downstream); evolve into higher planes, or devolve by evading responsibility and ultimate passivity.

Pisces is a mutable water sign that takes possession of the 12th house of the zodiac circle. In modern astrology, Pisces is ruled by the planet Neptune (Poseidon). However, traditionally Pisces is co-ruled by Jupiter (Zeus). Depending on the Birth aspects to a Pisces Sun, being so “tuned in” can cause total illusion or disillusion.

There was a song from the 1980’s in which the female singer emoted, “I Know There’s Something Going On”.  The song had a mysterious, nebulous tone to it, and seems to fit with this sign. As a Pisces, there are just things you simply know or sense, to the amazement of others. Within this almost supernatural type of knowledge, lie two very different fishes: one is sweet, unassuming, full of faith for others; compassionate and kind. This is the most typical Pisces most of us think of.

However, the flip side demonstrates a darker side. A disenfranchised, rejected Pisces can easily become unstable, inconstant and feel a strong sense of self-pity. Being the last sign of the Zodiac, it is likely that Pisces can feel and spot every other signs weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Mars in Pisces

Mars in Pisces

Mars in Pisces

Mars as the ruler of Aries and Scorpio is not particularity at home in Pisces.

Mars in Pisces will slow the pace for a few weeks.

You will have some breathing space, but if taken to extremes, the days can drift by with you lolling about in your pj’s watching old movies.

So what to do now?

This placement inclines towards creative expression like a step session, Zumba or Dance, Dance Revolution.

Go with the flow of the music or shuffle round the house in your slippers but let it drive itself.

Energy needs an outlet and the Mars powerhouse within us all has to come out somehow even when Mars in the soft sign ruled by Neptune.

Submarine Volcanoes

Another analogy of Mars in Pisces are the undersea volcanoes.

These mainly lie between the tectonic plates, for example in the atlantic ocean, where the Earth’s crust is opening up as the continents of America and Africa drift apart.

The gap allows magma to ooze or gush (depending on the place) and the red hot volcanic flow (Mars) is immediately cooled and hardened by the cold sea (Pisces).

This product can sometimes be referred to as volcanic glass and Neptune rules mirrors and glass.

Heat is released and warms the deep ocean creating a haven for obscure fish and marine creatures to live.

These animals do not exist anywhere else on Earth.

Flash Mobs

It seems the flash mob phenomena was born during a Mars transit of Pisces.

This is where a large group of people get together and dance in synch to blaring music.

These events appear spontaneous (but clearly are well rehearsed behind the scenes) and are usually held in a public place.

If you’ve ever seen this dance in action it gives the impression of a shoal of fish swimming through the ocean, changing direction sharply and in unison trying to evade predators.

Mars goes Back to Square One

When Mars enters its own sign of Aries at the start of the zodiac it will be back to full steam ahead.
