Leap Year 2012

Traditionally Leap Year is the one day in the year when a woman may ask a man for

his hand in marriage. This only comes around every four years. In times gone by the maidens in the villages across the land saw it as a chance to get their guy. Women don’t have to wait for this one special time any more but it is a quaint tradition. Let’s look from an astrological view at a girl’s chances of getting a “yes” answer.

Venus rules girls, women, female things and love. So this is the planet we will consider. In the Leap Year chart we see that Venus is in Aries the sign of the Ram. Fitting perhaps to push her point forward. But astrological when she is in the first sign of the zodiac she is in a weaker position because it is opposite the sign she rules, Libra the scales. There is some disadvantage here for Venus. Not a good start.

Secondly we consider the connections which Venus enjoys with the other planets in the chart. Here we discover that she is opposing Saturn the planet that symbolizes her father and other authority figures in her life. This relationship suggests that whatever Venus does on this day, her father will initially not like it. However, a closer look reveals that Saturn is well placed and at ease in Libra and which Venus rules. In this situation she has influence over Saturn (her father) and may be able to sweet talk him round. Venus can bring to bear the most charm and guile of all the planets. A daughter persuading her father will be at her best in getting his approval if she tries today.

Another contact that Venus has is a difficult one (a semi-square aspect) to the Sun. In astrology the Sun is considered a planet but yes, we all know it is a star. The Sun is a symbol of men (there are others) in a female chart. But again we see that there is slight tension between Venus and the Sun. Leap Year always occurs when the Sun is in Pisces the sign of two fish tethered, but swimming in different directions suggesting that the decision is not clear for the guy (the Sun). It will need some finesse for a woman to garner a man’s attention and close the deal on the marriage proposal this year.

To sum up, the 2012 Leap Year will not be the easiest one for a woman to pop the question but with a little feminine charm she may just be able to pull it off. Anyway, who wants to wait another four years?
